“Fun week in Cancun”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

The staff is so so so friendly; so welcoming and inviting. The best food is at the taco hut by the pool and the dining by the pool for lunch and dinner. Also the dining by the beach during the day is great. The food is not the highlight of the trip though, very bland and not many choices in the main dining hall. Two of my friends are vegetarians and they struggled with choices. Our room was great and the bed was very comfortable. We had a lagoon view, which was great for sunsets. We were at the end of the hall and it was so quiet. My friend and I received massages at the spa and it was perfect! My friends and I spent most of our time at the beach which is steps away from the hotel. The service on the beach was perfect and the beach front was very clean. We walked the beach both ways and we found we had the cleanest beach spot! Our day trips planned by the hotel were great!

Stayed at the Omni Hotel over New Year's Eve, (four days). The hotel is beautiful, and has great restaurants and bars. Pools were slightly chillier than I like, but the ocean was perfect! Big Jaccuzzi with a swim-up bar was lots of fun. We had a lagoon-view room, because the ocean-views were all taken. The lagoon view is very nice, and we could see the ocean from our balcony. Our two-double-bed room was clean and spacious. It is not the room pictured at websites. It is much larger and nicer. The one shown is actually a bedroom in a villa. If you are considering this hotel, be sure to look at guest pictures on TA for the best information.
Employees really strived to make everything perfect. Buffets were good, the Viva Mexico, and Sushi Bar were great for lunch, and the reservation restaurant Da Vinci's, was truly outstanding.
For NYE, Omni offered a party in a ballroom for an additional $80pp. Since it is an all-inclusive resort, we didn't see any reason to pay for that. There was also an outdoor festival by the pools with free blackjack, face-painting for kids, and other activities that we attended after a great dinner, instead.
The only downside, I noticed was that people "claimed" the beachfront chaise lounges early in the morning, and many never used them. It made it more difficult for those of us who wanted to lay out on the beach. Fortunately, the beach cocktail waitresses were good at helping to find lounges. (Reminded me of cruise ships.)
I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!! Highly recommended for everyone!
BTW: After 4 days, we moved down the beach to an adults-only resort. It was not nearly as nice as Omni.

Room Tip: I would probably pay extra next time for an ocean view. It is really spectacular!

Visited Jan 5th thru the 11th. Stayed in a villa, our third visit. The place is very clean, the employees are constantly cleaning and very friendly. We heard from taxi drivers they do not make much,so we tipped well. Beach service was excellent, the drinks are not strong, but if you ask for a double they do so without question. We enjoyed all the restaurants, the buffet food is average, we always found something we liked. My favorite was the Indonesian or DaVinci's. My children loved the sushi place and the Mexican place. The poolside grill is also quite good. If you don't like the buffet the pool side grill and the Mexican place was typically open late enough to fill up there. My children enjoyed late night snacks from room service, but I cannot say i would recommend it. There s always salad, fruit, bread. Although this is high season it was not crowded. Very few people came down and saved seats except for the bed like things around the pool. As American's I would say we were in the minority, although everyone was very friendly. We had no complaints, stay here and you will enjoy. On the bus back we were with some people from the Oasis next door and they had multiple problems with thefts in the room, drunks at the ocean and pool side and poor quality food. We were with about 50 people at the airport that had multiple complaints about the Iberostar in Cancun.

Room Tip: We loved the villas due to being able just to walk out to the pool and beach, not having to walk thr...

I am not a fan of all inclusives.
We were at the Omni for a wedding.
It was a great time.

We ordered room service but the quality of the food was not there and service was extremely slow.

We had a wonderful room with great ocean views.

We have booked an ocean view room (all inclusive) in this hotel via Virgin Holidays for stay in December 2012. The room was spacious but some parts of the room would require update in terms of decor. The thermalstat in my room does not work (even the maintainence guy come and cannot fix it). So if you need your room to be warmer, the only way is to switch off the air condition. However due to the high humidity and stone floors, the floor becomes very wet and slippery. The pool look nice and there are sufficient activities during the day to entertain guests. The food is ok in the buffet. Deva and the Japanese is quite good. However what we were not aware was: although it is all inclusive, you can only eat in Deva and Da Vinci for a limited number of times (as it is a la carte) depending on the amount of stay you are staying in the hotel. The waiter and waitress are very friendly. The location is great as this is close to the museum (worth going) and bus stop (which takes you to downtown cancun).

During our stay there are 2 days in a row where the mini bar was not refilled. We need to complain before things can be resolved. When we informed our Rep, the manager in the hotel Nora just lied to Virgin Rep that we speak to the vacation club people and therefore did not get things sorted. If she has bothered to check her facts she will find that: the hotel phone records would have indicated that I have called reception and room service!!!! On the second day, i actually went down to the reception (hotel check in ) and speak with Xavera at 5.15pm. to be precise.

Next conceirge: There is one conceirge staff in there we genuinely thought she does not know how to speak. When we approached her there was no greetings. When we asked her where is El Rey she just point to the map. Next when we asked about the shopping place Isla Village, she just point to the map again. It was only when we asked for direction, she decided to speak (in perfect English). Surprisingly next day when we meet her again and let her know we would need to speak to our Virgin Holidays Rep as we have some concerns about the hotel, out of a sudden her attitude change completely (ie become more friendly).

Finally what is scary was: we need to use the laundry service. The Laundry form has 2 prices quoted per piece : one in Mexican Pesos. The other in USD. As we are not US citizen, we will need to settle our bill in Mexican Pesos. However to my shocking horror, this hotel decided to convert the USD amount into Mexican Peso using the current exchange rate which is 30% more than what the Laundry Form has indicated. This is clearly a rip off. In the Laundry Form there is NO Notification that the prices quoted in Mexican Peso is not correct or would not be used by the hotel. When we complained about this (glad we check our bills. When we asked for the calculator they pretend they did not hear this) during check out, the manager at check out refuse to apologise. When we asked for a copy of the laundry bill, they refused to give this to us. All I can say is we are glad we have a smart phone and therefore did take a photo of the bill as evidence.

So no matter how good value this might be, due to the management style of not being honest and malpractise in this hotel, I would not return to this ever again!!! Just be very very careful!!!!

the hotel on arrival was lovely and very welcoming, and the staff are more than welcome to help. The hotel was always clean and the rooms were very tidy and the maids were really welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. All of the restaurants that were open in the day were lovely and had a wide selection of snacks and meals, there was a constant service of the waiters for drinks which were all lovely and all seemed very pleasant. On all the hotel and service was fantastic, the only negative was that there was not that much going on in the evening, however we were at the resort from November the 19th to beginning December which the hotel was very quite and we were assured that the night time entertainment was on in busier times. But all in all we would most certainly go again. My tip would be to tip the waiters well as they do a lot for the customers and work very hard.

Room Tip: we chose the lagoon view room and it was gorgeous as you could see both the sea and the lagoon.

I booked a trip through Costco with 2 families traveling together for a total of 11 people during the Christmas holiday. We arrived 12/20 and stayed through 12/26/12. Arriving in Cancun International should always be with the advise of maintaining hyper-vigilance with the locals providing transportation. Just after clearing customs, travelers will the met with an army of official looking workers, wearing coordinated slacks and shirts offering services and transportation. They are timeshare sales people with official ID's designed to suggest some type of official airport affiliation. Although we had been forewarned, members of our party were nearly duped into longer than needed conversation before being pulled away. How this is condoned by airport operations is beyond me.
We found our arranged transportation through Costco and arrived at the Omni Cancun without incident. The hotel met expectations in its appearance. The front staff were friendly and efficient. Our check in was uneventful, although the dependency on paper and stenciled copies of credit cards seemed a little old school. All guest were given wrist bands to be worn during the remainder of their stay to identify their hotel affiliation and alcohol eligibility. Wifi access was very suboptimal. The signal strength made it unusable in the rooms and forced many to huddle in the lounge to gain access. Also, daily fees were $15/day, unless you are an Omni Select member. This alone did not give you registered access since the front office required a "printed confirmation" of your membership that could be stapled to your registration papers before issuing you log on code. There is nothing specifically available from the Omni Select membership site that can print out for their use, so just print out a screen shot with your name and membership number. After this, log on, one device per membership, was functional. The food was good, and on par with mid-grade cruise ship fare. The staff was hard working. The main dining room, La Paloma, could easily be overwhelmed on some nights resulting in lines waiting for seating and lines to the buffet line. Two restaurants required reservation for sitdown service, the Da Vinci and Deva, which depending on the number of nights was rationed. Other food options included a taco/burger stand, cooked to order, Sushi bar - which was quite good, and fried snacks and pizza bar near the pool. My family had a 3 room villa that was spacious but dated. It had a full kitchen, 3.5 baths, one room with two full beds, and two with 1 king bed each. Two rooms had their own balconies and views of the ocean. The stairs were a little steep and a challenge to pull luggage two flights up. Once settled down, my family of six enjoyed their stay. Daily cleaning staff services were great. Amenities included a programmable safe, hair dyers, and a fridge that was stocked daily with Coke, reg/diet, juices, 6 bottles of water, beers, etc. No extra charge. The beach was a great back drop for scenery but the dropoff from sand to water was a little steep. For smaller kids, you would have to sit at the water edge to maintain visual contact. The Omni location along the peninsula has exposure to open ocean so the waves were rougher compared to hotels located further north near Punta Cancun which had shallow and more protected water shelted by the Islas Mujeres. Another plus was the proximity to the new Mayan Museum which just opened in Nov 12 and worth the $54 pesos for a couple of hours of education. Public bus access was easy along the Kulkulcan Blvd. at $8.50 pesos. We ate all foods and drinks without consequence.
Overall, I would stay again at the Omni
