“Krystal Cancun”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

We had a Fri-Fri rental, which helped for the check in/out process. It is much busier on weekend check in. We were in our room within 15 mins of arrival, having to check in through the time-share people. Unfortunately we were not able to have an ocean view room, though we had emailed with the Customer Service people at Krystal (Cynthia was very helpful). We were in the oldest tower on 6th floor. Our view was partial water view. Since were were rarely in our rooms, it did not make much of a difference to us. We had 3 connecting rooms with 3 full baths, all very clean, though the building/furnishings showed wear. Beds were very comfortable. Unit had 2 mini-frigs (each bdrm), 1 full size frig & microwave in main rm (no stove). We had breakfast & lunch in, dinner out each night. Maid service was prompt each morning.
Plenty of lounges at the pools all day, however, beach tables/huts(only shade) were taken by 8am. Beach was clean and ocean gorgeous. Miles of beach to walk. Only complaint was very loud annoying techno music on beach began each day at noon-4pm! Unnecessary, since there were few young people there during the week to enjoy it. We did ask once to have volume lowered, and it was, but still out-shouted the sound of surf. Happy hour began around noon (a "fluid" schedule). We were always able to get a round of drinks on the beach from a waiter, and looked like pool bar was very active.
We had signed up for a timeshare breakfast, but decided not to go. We were never phoned or bothered further.
We had most dinners in the area since it was a very easy walk to many. Though we were not interested in bar hopping, this is the location to be for them! Also, shopping at the flea market and other stores was convenient and within walking distance.
We wanted to snorkel, but the tour at the resort was lengthy and $$. The only good snorkeling was off shore, We took a ferry ($20pp) at Playa Carcola (5 min walk) to Isle Mujeres and rented a golf cart. Drove to south of island to Garaffon De Castillo. Great little beach, good lunch and okay snorkeling. No coral reef. Reviews of fish were accurate; people fed fish mean they come right up to you, not the best selection, but at least something to look at. FYI - golf cart rental at pier was $50, rental on ferry $45.
Restaurants we liked all within walking: Casa Tequila, Mextreme, Calypso, Natura, Mocambo (on water, also next to ferry), Mortora (hotel connection).
Bring lots of $1 bills for tipping!
A nice vacation, weather was beautiful. Would not necessarily return to Krystal due to resort being not quite up to par and in need of some touch up. Staff were nice, but not overly friendly as we experienced at Mayan Resort 3 yrs ago.

I originally planned to stay at Dreams but booked took late so the price hike from $270 to $450 was not worth it. I decided to choose a cheaper hotel so I could get an ocean front room to watch the sunrise every morning instead. I booked 2 krystal club rooms for my family of 4 which includes continental breakfast to ensure being in the new tower.

Our flight arrived at 2pm on a tuesday. We used USA Transfer and arrived at our hotel by 3pm so we didnt have to wait for checkin. The bellhop took our luggage right away. The receptionist gave us 2 rooms on the top floor of the new tower without me asking. We had to wear bracelets which I dont understand cause we did not do the all inclusive option. Continental breakfast is available in the club lounge from 8a-10:30a daily. Too bad our tours start really early so we could only take advantage of it 2 days out of our 6 night stay there.

The bellhop guided us to our rooms. There are 3 towers so it was a bit of a walk. I think it was the first time I said wow when I saw a hotel room. The club room is gorgeous with an oceanfront balcony. It turns out Krystal is a popular spring break hotel cause the clubs are right outside. There was a loud beach party with music blaring going on for the spring breakers right next to our hotel so that was a turn off. Lucky that we are away from our hotel all day on various tours because they apparently party from 12p-5p every day.

It was rather annoying to have beach towel cards. My mom said college students tried to steal her towel a few times. I think it is because there were alot of students congregating around the pool bar. It made us nervous to swim in the pool even though it was really nice because we had to constantly keep an eye on our stuff. It seemed to be safer on the beach away from the students. I've left my bag on the beach a few times with no problems. The waves are pretty crazy right in front of our beach so we always walk down to the sheltered area by the rocks in front of the hyatt, very calm water there. The jacuzzi is lukewarm.

The next day, our room keys did not work when we got back to the hotel from our tour and the front desk gave us new cards. Then we found out there was no running water in our room so we had to get that fixed too. It was annoying but the front desk is always helpful when we go there with a problem. We had no trouble exchanging for fresh towels there when the towel place is closed.

The continental breakfast in the lounge was surprisingly high class and nice, pastries, toast, fresh fruit, cheese and cold cuts, cereal, yogurt with various toppings, an espresso machine, fresh juice. I was really sad it opens too late for us most days. The evening snacks they advertised is nowhere to be found. I asked a few people and they all said different things.

Wifi is very spotty in the room. The timeshare and tour people did not bother us. Some lady came by with free fresh fruit and I found a free dessert when I came back from dinner the first day which was weird.

It was a few blocks walk to the nearest bus stop near CoCo Bongo to take the R1 bus downtown to the bus terminal. The bus to go down the hotel strip is behind VIP. Buses come every few minutes so dont worry if you miss one. The bus drivers are really nice about telling you when to get off.

Room Tip: Go for the krystal club rooms!

Great beach, but minimal shade. Lobby & rooms very modern, does not look or feel like Mexico at all. Very clean. Minimal variety of food at 2 restaurants, and limited hours of both. No entertainment at night. No activities. VERY loud techo music on beach from noon to 5pm. Our room overlooked a parking lot, with a loud hum of the next door generator all night. $45 per night to upgrade to ocean view. The fridge in rooms is stocked with snacks & beverages...BUT you have to pay for them. Take an air freshener.

A group of University friends and I went to Kyrstal for our reading week. It is a 3 minute walk away from the main strip in Cancun (bars, restaurants, market, malls). Beautiful beach, and was always very, very clean especially considering the spring-break nature of the week. Juan the bartender was especially fantastic throughout the whole week, he was a very prompt server and overly friendly; everyone loved him and he made our trip and our stay at Krystal very enjoyable!

I arrived there expecting to have one of the best experiences of Cancun, but I found the placed was packed and in personal. The attention at the front desk was average compared to other all inclusive hotels. The rooms was less than average for such a price, looked like the hotel was old but with some arrangements to make it look new. The bathroom was not clean enough, some hair and spots where found in the mirror. In the room drinking water was not provided. I had some problem with the TV remote and had to call 4 times to get it solved. The sound proof of the rooms was bad, i could hear my neighbor snoring all night long, looked like he/she was next to me!
I have been in other all inclusive hotels around the area where i felt more comfortable.
The location of the hotel is great, close to malls and clubs. The pool and external facilities are good. The hotel is overrated for the price it charges because of the conditions they keep their rooms.

Room Tip: Don't chose a room facing the street, you will hear the clubs noise all night long.

Great staff!!!!! BIG Props to miguel at the lobby bar! Room was exactly like the photos on their web site(exactly). Got a little party noise from the clubs down the street, you get used to it. It is not that loud.
The place is under constant improvements, not construction. The staff is always cleaning and polishing, the place looks awesome!
Food is good, not great. you will not starve. could use more salads.
drinks are a little strong, lucky i'm a beer drinker.

Room Tip: Higher floors = Less party noise A few small tips go a long way.

Everything was good except for the constant renovation work during the entire time we were there. On Friday day night they worked throughout the night.

Paris the public relations guy for Krystal that comments on tripadvisor, told us that he would have special amenities brought to the room for our 20th anniversary but it never happened.

The good: food, room service, ocean view, the beach

The not so good; The 18 hour per day renovations, so bad we had to sleep with the patio door closed, which defeated the purpose of having an ocean view room. Rooms in the older tower show signs of wear.

I would go back but spend a few bucks more and request a room in the newer tower and would go with the Krystal Club upgrade.

Room Tip: Krystal club rooms in the newer tower or 7th & 8th story rooms in the older tower.
