“You get what you pay for”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Beach is amazing. It's a great walk up and down the strip. If you go down far enough you'll find the spots that rent boogie boards and jet skis right on the sand. The water is warm and inviting. The sand has lots of pretty seashells you can dig for. Plenty of lounge chairs for you to lay and relax with a drink in your hand. There are lifeguards on duty and guards that watch the beach at night. We got caught trying to take a dip after dark and were shooed away.

The pool water was freezing..but if you're in a place with a beach like Cancun, who wants to use the pool anyway?

Entertainment..wasn't really any. We didn't really stay in the hotel at night but there was always a small group gathered around the only bar area that was open at night. I think theres a dj each night though who tries to spark up some silly game or karaoke. If you're big into entertainment though, this place definitely isn't for you..

There's only two restaurants; a buffet style and a regular menu one. The buffet got kinda old after a couple of days..food was always of similar variety and much like any buffet it also got cold quick. We didn't get any attention when we ate on the buffet style, although service at the restaurant was spectacular. The restaurant you needed reservations to but the food was awesome for both lunch and dinner. After we discovered this little spot we ate there for the rest of our stay. And it's right on the beach so you get amazing views! I am a huge eater so I would've enjoyed a couple of other restaurants to try out. On a positive note they did have a good selection for vegetarians!

The drinks were alright. They had this banana drink I stayed with most of the trip until I got sick of the sweetness of it..so I switched to wine.

Grounds seem to have been well kept, but I didn't pay too close of attention to them.

The room was very well kept. We had an awesome view of the ocean from our balcony.

We took a couple of excursions..didnt buy them from the hotel but instead traveled by bus and met a local travel agent who's got a shop next to a liquor store. The trip we took to isle de muter was so awesome..it's the cutest little island. We rented a couple of scooters and drove around the island and then ate at this awesome falafel joint. We got the same trips that people had purchased from the vendors in the hotel for probably 80% less..they were definitely ripped off in that aspect.

Make sure you visit the shops right across the hotel for inexpensive souvenirs...and most definitely take a walk down to senior frogs! We walked and took the bus to numerous locations..if you ever decide to try the local flee markets don't give in to their prices..One guy tried to sell us tshirts for 30 bucks and I got him down to 2 dollars and a free shot glass. There are a couple of sellers though where I paid extra because they do depend on tourists to make their living.

Staff was friendly overall. Check in took a while because there was a long line. Make sure you tip well..and don't forget about leaving a couple of bucks for the maids...they're always forgotten.

When booking just keep in mind you get what you pay for. Me and a girlfriend wanted to get away and we booked this trip a week in advance for an amazingly low price..so for the price I never expected to get a 5 star hotel. And as long as there's a clean bed for me to sleep in and a sandy beach for me to lay on I'm happy.

Room Tip: Ocean view! You don't want to wake up to the road.

After spending 24 hours at the Flamingo, and your idea of all inclusive is a 2 night stay at the downtown Cancun Hospital, food poisioning/e-coli of unheard of proportions, unresponsive staff, denial of responsibility by the hotel, lack of service by Funjet then this is the place for you. Stay away. Seriously. My husband stayed by my side at the hospital, and was still charged for the room. The Cancun hospital, on the otherhand, was very accomodating. Next time we were advised to take a taxi to the hospital as it is twice as fast. Be sure your credit card is notified to charge internationally, which we did, and good thing too, since the hospital charged our credit card prior to admission. Our insurance reimbursed us after we had the records translated from Spanish to English. You have been warned.

Room Tip: If you want to choose a good room, choose a different hotel.

This was our 5th time at the Flamingo. It is in a good spot in the hotel zone and the beach is post card perfect. This is an older hotel, certainly not a 5 star but we have always had a great time due the the staff and hotel guests that we came to know. This time was different, none of the staff was familiar and they didn't care anything about giving good service. Our room was never cleaned before 6 in the evening and even then we had to ask for towels. Bottled water was not provided as it had been in the past and we both got sick on the food. This was our 9th trip to the cancun/playa del carmen area and it is the first time we ever got sick(not fun). We have great memories of the Flamingo and all the fun we have had there but sadly that will be our last stay.

The hotel is old, it's not horribly kept, but it isn't well kept either. The rooms are clean, but there is a mold problem and our room had a leak in the bathroom from the bathroom on top, it had mold on the ceiling, there was no shower curtain and it took 2 hours to get one, the cable TV did not work so we were unable to watch any TV for 2 days, the towels were not white and clean, they were gray and smelled musty, we asked for fresh ones and got them just the same way. The room smelled bad. We had an oceanview suite, which was blocked by a shutter on the sliding door, they barely left an opening for people to get through. You can hear all the outside noises, there were no beach towels and there was no beach attendant. The hot tub area was deserted and not well kept either. The staff was unfamiliar with online reservations, therefore they charged our card a different room rate than we had been charged online, then charged our card twice that same amount. We paid 3 times for the room. The self parking was about 1 block away and the valet parking was advertised online as included, however we were charged on a daily basis plus tip. Overall, the quality of service was poor, the place was old and could use upkeeping, the staff could use training, and we will never stay there again!!!

I just arrived from Mexico today and I stayed 6 night at Flamingo Cancun.
and here are some of the reasons you should avoid this Hotel at all cost.

1. The pictures you see here are really outdated. The hotel is very OLD.
2. The food was not good at all. Lunch and Breakfast were really the same every single day.
3. I had to go up and down to replace my keys 5 times in 6 days.
4. For the same price of maybe $100 more you can find a BETTER place to stay.
5. They wasted almost 1 hour of my time trying to lure me into buying a time share from a hotel next to Flamingo owed by the same company.
6. Jet Blue tried to contact me a few times to update me on my lost luggage and they kept on hanging up on the Lady, and they told her that she was calling too many times on the same day.
7. The beach / pool chairs are at least 20 years old and falling apart
8. some of the staff were very rude.

We´re getting ready to leave the Flamingo after a week stay and once again had a wonderful time. As usual, the hotel was amazingly clean and the staff very friendly. We would highly recommend the Flamingo for a wonderful stay at a very reasonable price!
