Le Blanc Spa Resort
Ranked #1 of 177 Hotels in Cancun
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 18, 2014

The Le Blanc all inclusive hotel lives up to its billing as one of the top beach hotels in North America. We just came back from our fifth weeklong stay in the last 5 years and will continue to make a yearly visit for years to come. At Le Blanc, there is no need to ever leave the property. The location in the Cancun Hotel district is on one of the best stretches of beach in Mexico. The hotel French, Asian, Italian and International restaurants are as good or better than any in the area. The French restaurant, La Lumiere has been ranked in the top in Mexico. But life at Le Blanc is more than food and drink. From the moment of arrival to reluctant departure, the friendly and professional staff attends to your every need. Each floor has a butler to ensure that no need goes unmet including access to the world class spa. And a fully equipped gym is avaialble 24x7 for your health and fitness. The best way to visit Le Blanc and it's sister all inclusive hotels throughout Mexico is to become a Palace Resorts member which ensures access at almost any time. Our 8 years in the program has never disappointed and Le Blanc is the crowning jewell!

Room Tip: We prefer the view from beach facing rooms

The resort does tend to be on the quiet side, but that does not mean you wont have some fun. They have activities for you if you desire. You can just relax if that is for you. The staff will take care of you and your every need will be met. It wont matter what room you are in because you will want to be out at the pool and beach as much as possible. At night the restaurants are elegant and the food is amazing. Try it, I think you will enjoy it there..

Room Tip: We prefer higher floors. Lagoon view is beautiful too. We don't stay long in the room. We are th...

Rarely one gets the quality of Miami/South Beach in Mexico whether its hotel, beach/pool, service (think Shore Club, Fontainebleau, Trump, etc.). Le Blanc seems to get the understated white interior, carefully designed/layout of the pool area with couches, lounge chairs and umbrellas. Beach is very Miami-like with good towel service and magazine selection. Food quality and selection is good (not great but still serve fresh ceviche and grilled octopus by the poolside). Rooms are bright with butler service on the floor and WiFi accessible throughout the resort. Only visited for 4 sunny days that we've squeezed in after the holidays. As with most of the trips we go on, we have used www.TripGuy.com to arrange the reservations and private airport transfers (including the restaurant reservations). Impeccable service and responsiveness.

Overall, Le Blanc is the perfect resort for anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing vacation, with excellent service.

Arriving in Cancun
When you arrive at Cancun airport, collect your baggage and immediately make your way out of the main airport doors. Why? Because, on your way out there is a congregation of hotel representatives to the right who will attempt to get your attention and ask you to visit their resort. Unless you want to visit another hotel and most likely listen to a timeshare pitch, don't do it. Upon landing, you probably just want to get to where you're staying, so simply look the other way and ignore these people if you don't want to be delayed any longer. This is a huge time-saving tip for the inexperienced.

Once outside the main airport doors, finding your transportation should be very easy and the wait should not be too long.

Arriving at Le Blanc
Upon arrival, you will receive a cold towel to cool you down and your bags will be taken in order to be brought to your room once you are checked in.

You will speak with a member of staff who will provide you will your resort wristbands and your room information. This is a great time to discuss the room you are staying in and whether you want the particular room you have been given. It's always easier to start in the room you want rather than moving to it later.

Once you have been checked in, you will then be given a chance to discuss the available tours, spa treatments, resort credit (if any), and any questions you may have about the resort and surrounding area. My advice is to plan ahead by reading about the various tour options available on the resort's website, and book spa appointments as soon as you can in order to save time and avoid any further need to worry about doing so for the remainder of your stay. Also, you don't want the disappointment of not being able to get the appointment time and treatment you want.

At some stage during your initial arrival you will be introduced to your butler, although the particular butler you interact with during your stay may change. During our stay, we had three butlers: Jonathon, Frank, and Carlos. Each of these butlers was very helpful, and each will strive to make your stay as great as possible.

In Your Room
Although some rooms will inevitably have some things that others don't, the basic amenities and features are very nice. Le Blanc is known for its attention to detail, and it's most likely that you will notice this when you first arrive in your room. A welcome letter, personalized stationary, and beach bag are all likely to be waiting for you in your room.

Among the amenities is a fully-stocked mini-fridge which contains a selection of candy, fruit juices, soda, and alcohol. There is a room-service booklet in which you will find a food menu, pillow menu, and aromatherapy menu. Room service is available 24 hours a days too, which is very nice.

In the bathroom area you will find a variety of toiletries, which are very helpful for those who prefer to leave as many of these items at home as they can, or for those who simply forgot something such as a toothbrush.

The room does have a television, coffee-maker, cork-screw to open the bottle of wine that should be in your room, and a safe to store valuable items.

The closets are generously sized and should easily accommodate any guest's belongings. We have two closets in our room, so this is probably the case in every room.

There is also a DVD player, and you can order movies to watch from your butler. The major problem you may find is that many movies will be taken, and many guests may not return them once they have finished watching them. It would probably be best or the resort to have more copies for each DVD (at least the most popular). Better yet, a streaming service so every movie was available all the time to each guest would be ideal. However, profit maximization and a lack of demand might hinder that idea.

Room Service
You can order room service from all the available menus via the phone, or use the resort's application, which you can access on your computer or download to your cell phone.

Tour (Chichen Itza)
The selection of tours is well varied, so there are options for people who want to do something exciting, and for those who want to do something a little more relaxing.

We took the tour to Chichen Itza. It is known as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, but unfortunately the tour provided by the resort is a little disappointing.

Travel time from the resort to Chichen Itza is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, but the itinerary set by the resort means it will take an hour longer to reach the historic wonder. The bus which transports guests there will stop twice along the way. The first stop will be to allow guests to use the toilet. The second stop will be to allow guests to shop and eat; you have approximately 30 minutes to shop, and another 30 minutes to eat. The first stop is understandable, but the second stop seems unnecessary.

Prior to arriving at the second stop, you will be informed that you can purchase Maya-inspired chains or have a specific date translated into Maya symbols and printed on papyrus or leather. You will also be informed that your photograph will be taken once you step off the bus and put on a bottle of $20 Mexican tequila, which someone will attempt to sell to you once you return to the bus.

The food in the restaurant is of poor quality. I don't want to appear ungrateful, but when you pay a lot of money to stay at a nice resort you expect a better alternative. Perhaps the resort could supply traveling guests a packed lunch of better quality food from the resort prior to departing. I suggest that others bring some food from the resort and eat outside the restaurant, unless you want to experience the restaurant itself.

The entire second is approximately one hour, but it only takes time away that could have been otherwise spent at Chichen Itza. My advice to the resort is to depart earlier than 8:30 am, and travel directly to the location.

Once you arrive, you will see that you have a great opportunity to buy items from the many vendors present. You'll probably dislike the fact you wasted time at the second stop once you do. The amount of time you have to visit the sites is not enough to even scratch the surface of what is possible to see, and this frustrated me because I knew it was avoidable and I also had to spend another 2 hours and 30 minutes traveling back to the resort.

Overall, it was nice to say I visited, and the tour guide Armando was great, but the itinerary absolutely has to change in order to make this tour enjoyable.

Restaurants
There are five main restaurants in the resort, and we used four of these during our stay. I highly recommend the French restaurant for those looking for a superb fine-dining experience and probably the best food you can eat during your stay. You need to make reservations for this restaurant, so do so on the first day you arrive, and make sure you dine there at least twice.

The Asian and Italian restaurants are also fantastic, and the level of service is excellent.

For a great breakfast, you could order room-service or visit the International restaurant for made-to-order eggs and a wide selection of other great morning food.

TIP: The French restaurant is located inside the International restaurant, at the back. It was quite comical watching people have difficultly finding the restaurant. Perhaps the resort can do something to help guests with this problem.

Tips
It may have been stated to you that tips are included, but inevitably people insist on tipping. Given the level of service you will most likely receive, it is difficult not to tip. For those dreading the need to tip, there really is no need and any tip is appreciated. We often gave $2 or $3 tips to room-service staff or those who brought us food by the pool. We also gave a bigger tip to our butler and maid upon leaving. However, because you may not have the same maid or butler each day, it may be better to tip them each day - if you choose to tip of course.

Additional Information
If you have any other questions about my experience, please comment and I will either reply or update my post.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lagoon also face the main road, so be aware of the associated noise. Although the n...

Our reservations were for two couples, 8 days, two junior suites, November 2013.

I thought we had experienced service excellence before. We have traveled extensively throughout the world and have stayed at the finest resorts, spas, cruise lines and hotels. Second to none (that means you Rosewood, Banyan Tree, Four Seasons, Crystal Cruises, Ritz Carlton, etc.) is the service excellence you can expect from the amazing staff at Le Blanc.

Let's just say the AMAZING started before we ever arrived at the resort. Our first impression began with Le Blanc Reservations Assistant, Mr. Julio Alvarez. His attention to detail, pre-emptive guidance, unexpected follow-up, beguiling graciousness was a warm initiation into the family you are about to join as a guest in the Le Blanc home.

Do yourself a favor, book your trip now, and bask in the warm reflection of the caring people you will come to love as part of the Le Blanc family.

Overall our 2nd stay at LeBlanc was good. Yes, the weather was bad from January 5-9. However, our group of 12-16 managed to have a good time despite it all. Lots of rest, food, drinks, and great conversations. Generally the service was good. The few exceptions of bad service was one night at the International restaurant. I believe our group of 16 overwhelmed the staff. Clearly "Aldopho" our waiter, (I think that was his name) was frustrated, did not want to comply with special requests and let us know by words and facial expressiion that he was frustrated and unwillingly to comply. The restaurant manager had to get involved because the service was so terrible. The manager resolved a special request in five minutes, whereas our waiter had us waiting in limbo for over an hour. Aldopho's service was so bad, that had we been assigned him as a waiter on the following night, we would have got up and left. The rest of our restaurant experiences were very good. One day the housekeeping staff was very slow to clean our room. We left and returned a couple of times and the room was still a mess. They did not clean it until my wife tracked them down and asked. The rest of the days we received good housekeeping services. The Butler service was good. Shout out to Isreal and Jesus and anybody else that butlered the 6th floor during Jan 5-12! The beach and pool service was excellent. Shout out to Ernesto-trainee and Felicidad! Awesome job! During on rainey day, Ernesto-trainee went out of his way to get food requests while our group was hanging out in the lounge. Give that man a raise! The resort credit is being charged 16% tax. That takes some of the fun out of using resort credit. Now, you can carry over your resort credit for the next visit. Only wish Le Blanc would let you use unlimited spa credits. $500 limit is not enough. Shout out to all the spa people and hydro therapy workers. Great service. We wore that place out. One last complaint, please stop juicing the orange peel with the rest of the orange. I love OJ, hate Le Blanc's OJ. I started bringing my own OJ from the minibar to breakfast.
