“Pleasant stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

I traveled with my husband and 2 very young children for 4 nights and it was our first time in Cancun. We read many reviews and researched many hotels. We chose Royal Solaris because of the value and the activities the hotel has for children. Although we didn't use the playroom at the Mini Club, we were very happy with the kid's pool. It was heated and decorated well. On our first night, the staff had games and prizes arranged for kids which my 3-year old thoroughly enjoyed.

Food and drinks were abundant and most of them were appetizing and tasty. We prefer the food quality and service of Las Fuertas Terrazas better than Rosmarinos. We also liked the food bar by the pool where nachos, fries and chicken were always available. The staff were always smiling and made sure we had what we needed. There are several big pools but there were so many people, the pools looked small. It was not easy to walk on pathways because there were many people sitting on them or there were lots of drinks. Many chairs were also close to the pool so it was difficult for us to walk through with a running child and a stroller. Chairs fill up quickly and there were not enough umbrellas. There were times when we wanted to swim in peace but the entertainment staff were constantly on the microphone for announcements, games, activities, shows, loud music, etc. There were already lots of people talking and shouting, so we would've preferred it if the use of microphone was tamed down a bit. We only saw one evening show and we enjoyed it very much.

The room was ok. Nothing to rave about. I think it needs updating. The TV is still the big boxed one. We didn't have a tub. It would've been easier to have one while bathing kids. We were happy with the cleaning staff. Margarita was very observant of our needs. She cleaned and took away things we didn't need. She arranged our toiletries, hid the tacky bed spread and kept the cold AC off.

We stayed away from guest reps who we heard were out to get you to buy time shares or vacation packages. We were happy that nobody hounded us for it. If there was anything we didn't like, it would be the staff person waiting by the lobby to ask us where we were going when we left the hotel. I thought the front desk was there to help guests for questions about what to do outside the hotel. We think that person was redundant and a bit intrusive. He didn't have to know where we were going. If we have something to ask from him, then we will ask him.

Also, we would prefer it if there was free Wi-fi. We stayed in many hotels and each time, we got free wi-fi access. I think the hotel should consider wi-fi access included in the all-inclusive package. I'm sure their future hotel guests would be much happier.

Room Tip: Choose 7th floor rooms for the balcony. All the 7th floor rooms have balconies both from the ocean...

Our 4th visit and we were disappointed. The biggest problem was the wife got really sick. She isn't a drinker and we ate all meals at the resort. Last year I got sick. The food looks good but that doesn't mean a lot. When the server has a hard time slicing the beef with his sharp knife you can imagine how hard it is to cut with the butter knife provided. The roast pork can be cut with a fork one day and hard to cut the next. The room was the same as last years and still the jacuzzi light and one of the buttons didn't work. Three of the 2x4's used as a roof over the jacuzzi were loose and swinging in the wind. Coni, our maid did an excellent job keeping the room clean. It's not her job to clean up the coffee area or stock the refrigerator prior to 3PM. It took 3 phone calls and a visit to the front desk to finally get that done. There were men painting and plastering the outside of the building which made quite a mess on our patio including pieces of wood and tin. Lounging in our room one afternoon and the wife was startled by men on our patio. It didn't make her feel safe.
We had a friend come along and he had a Deluxe Ocean View room that didn't include a coffee maker or a refrigerator...pretty cheap of the hotel. Television went out 2 or 3 times during the stay which was annoying. The biggest ripoff to me was the $70 wifi for a week. Getting on was still a hit or miss and I was only able to access it 5 times in 7 days. Last year it was free in the lounge area....no more.
A big plus to the staff, maids, bartenders, waiters and waitresses. They were all courteous, friendly and a great buch of people.
A Motel 6 experience at a Hilton price. We'll find someplace else next year.

Just got back week vaca, 2 extra days due to snow storm. Fabulous resort. Let me start by saying our guest service person Suzy made everything perfect. Checked on us regularly making sure we were happy and comfortable. Have been to the Royal and its sister next door GR Caribe many times. Beautiful, clean, our room was beyond expected. Recently refurbished. Pools and clean beach. SIX Restaurants, food and service really exceptional, spa and gym...I expect to go back again

Room Tip: I most enjoyed the GR Caribe side, quiter and just a little bit more expensive but worth it.

Older resort that has lost it's thunder. Excellent service and entertainment staff that will keep your mind off the details that sink most places. As US citizen expect lower standards of food , and general maintenance. It's clean yes , and comfortable. Details are being over looked such bad bathroom designs using half a shower door that exposes a tile floor with a drain. The floor will get soaked and large bath mat is needed so you won't slip. Pools are beautiful and well taken care of. Hot tubs are barely warm not even hot. Location is gorgeous and service to downtown is cheap. Overall for the money a fair deal but don't bring American standards with you.

We had a great stay at the Royal Solaris. The service was friendly. The hotel was very clean. The food was great. There was a huge pool with a swim up bar close to a fantastic beach. I used the spa services and found it comparable to high end spas in Canada. I will definitely go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view, the other side has a lagoon.

My wife and I travel approximately every 6-7 weeks during the winter months to one of the Caribean destinations. It just so happens that we have selected out of the last ten years 8 times at the Royal Solaris (watch the Superbowl) so we kind of know what we are getting. Until this time we had the pleasure of meeting Susana Cano a quest service representative. This young lady went out of her way to make sure that we had the best week ever. As we did !!! One good example, on Thursday we received notice that our flight to Boston was cancelled due to a snow storm, well even though it was her day off the phone rings and its Suzy. She wanted to make sure that our accomodations were in place for the unexpected stay.. That's deeds over words!
Last, every person with all their "great - the best restaurants" treat you like you're Royalty.. Maybe that's why they call it the "Royal Solaris.. Thank you Suzy and the entire staff ...

Room Tip: Ask them if available I'm sure you would experience the same as we did..

Unit is poorly maintained : Old tub, leaking faucet, aged towels and stained furniture. Very poor quality of food especially in the buffets at lunch and at dinner time. We ended up having breakfast in Las Fuentas and dinner at Marco Polo. Pool area is very compact , not much walking paths and very little plantation, compared to other all inclusive resorts I visited. Nice sandy beach.
very steep ramps around so it is not disabled friendly. The best thing about this resort was the night shows in the theatre. I do recommend watching the various shows performed.
