“Excellent experience at Grand Oasis”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

We just returned from 6D/5N at Grand Oasis...stayed at Grand Oasis Palm but also visited Oasis Viva and Grand Oasis Cancun under the Runaway program...very impressed with the friendly people...many good restaurants (limited vegetarian choices as a main dish) but always found something to eat...lots of nightly entertainment as well...no issues at all (except those pesty Unique vacation salespeople)...will definitely go back to Grand Oasis...Ajay and Rina P.

Overall we were very dissatisfied with our stay. We had a great time as long as we did not have to interact with many of the staff members at The Oasis. There were a few good bartenders and servers that saved the trip, but overall terrible service. During our stay, we were told three different ways to make a reservation by three different people, which lead us to only get to eat at one of the restaurants that required a reservation on the last night. Even though our reservation was confirmed twice for 730pm, when we showed up, they had us down for 9pm. The host gave us a hard time about squeezing us in, even though there were only three other tables seated in the whole restaurant!
The house keeping was also terrible. Two of our five days there, they did not replace the water bottles in our room so we had to go into the bars and ask for water. We would also leave 3 dirty towels on the floor, which house keeping would take, but would only leave one clean towel! So over the course of two days, I called house keeping twice and asked at the help desk for clean towels to be brought to our room (all in Spanish, so there was no confusion). They finally gave us clean towels on our last day.
However, the worst service occurred while we were checking out. Our room never ordered room service, but when we went to check out, there were 3 room service charges. We asked to see the bills, because we assured them we never ordered or received food to our room. Our friends in another room had ordered room service 3 times so we figured there was a mix up. There was some confusion with the names on the charges, because our room got switched with our friend’s room during check in. When they went and got the bills there were a total of 6 room service charges. Three of the services were signed for, which our friends paid for, and three of the bills were not signed. One of the services was even ordered at 4:40am on a night when we didn’t go out. The 3 bills that were not signed for, room service had printed our names on the bills. They even spelled my name wrong on one bill and tried to write over it. The receptionist, Cesar, was very slow and unhelpful. He wouldn’t remove the charges, so at this point we asked to speak to the manager.
The female manager and was extremely rude to us. She tried to tell me that the bill with my misspelled name was my signature. I kept my cool as I showed her there was clearly a mistake when three of the service were ordered and signed for, and the other three were never ordered and therefore not signed by us. She then tried to lie to us again and say that the room service looked at our wristbands and wrote the numbers down and that room service can’t see the numbers in the computer, so they had to have seen our bands. The problem with this is that that band numbers didn’t match the forged signatures on some of the bills so we knew she or room service was just saying anything to lie at this point. Our friends also said room service never checked their bands when their food was delivered.
Because the manager was being so rude I finally asked her why she thought there were charges on our room that were not signed for. She told us that she knew we ordered the food and our friends just ate it. We were with our friends every night and everyone is the group was positive there were only 3 charges to the other room.
After arguing at checkout over these false charges, our whole group, including the other room, ended up missing our shuttle with Grayline, which we had already paid for, and had to pay for a taxi to the airport.
This was the worst service I have every received in any hotel or resort anywhere in the world! The complete negligence for the customer is right was unbelievable by this manager. We had expected by paying more to stay on the Grand Oasis side the service would at least show some respect for their guests. It just shows the type of management at this resort. We still had fun in Cancun and in the resort, but because of the service we received I will never return to any of the Oasis Resorts! I will also make sure that none of my friends traveling to Cancun stay at an Oasis Resort! Very disappointed that the management doesn’t care about their guests.

Room Tip: View of the ocean is definitely worth it (not lagoon side)! Also stay on the Grand Oasis if you want...

As we found in our records, it is extremely important for our guests to notify our front desk if you decide to change your assigned room with other guests, even if they are acquaintances. This, in order to avoid any misunderstanding or in case of extra charges made by someone else who is occupying your designated room, due they will be added to your bill.

Furthermore, we would like to let you know we are very devoted to our guests, and the staff is committed to understand, help and satisfy all of your needs, this is why we continue at your disposal, as we have done from the moment you expressed your comments.

PROS:
*Nice hotel with a nice clean beach (saw workers cleaning the beach every morning)
*the hotel is facing the ocean and not the bay (careful when booking a hotel, some hotels are facing the bay you'll see lots of disappointments staying on the bay IE. boats, dirty water etc..)
*EVERYONE WAS VERY FRIENDLY
*Drinks where good and not watered down
*nice and quiet (Grand Oasis side)

CONS:
*bathtub was slow at draining (didn't bother me though)
*food was average for the most part (aside for some restaurants that require reservation)

my wife and I traveled to Cancun for the first time and it turned out to be Awesome. Our trip started bumpy as the hotel we originally made our reservation at was overbooked (oasis sens) we were pretty sad since we had seen the amazing rooms Oasis Sens offers, but we were told our travel agency was at fault for overbooking so we can't be mad at the Hotel. So Oasis Sens sent us to Grand Oasis, and not knowing what to expect we were pretty sad during our Taxi ride. Upon arriving little did we know, our relocation was like an immediate upgrade! Grand Oasis is a really nice hotel and MTV was hosting their 2014 spring break right there at Grand Oasis so the music and ambiance was great. Keep in mind that Grand Oasis is composed of something like 3 hotels in one the main hotel being the pyramid in the middle which is the Gran Oasis (where we stayed) and 2 side white buildings. the two side building were packed with college kids and it was really noisy throughout the day. But the pyramid was really nice and quiet (if you're looking to relax like we did). Our room was nice with a great ocean view!
overall our room was awesome, but a minor problem we encountered was with the bathtub which would drain water slowly (no big deal ).

NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, WE LOVED THE EXPERIENCE!

Room Tip: stay in Grand Oasis & if you can afford it, pay for the ocean view (i'll upload some pics t...

Accommodations: Superb corner unit - Double wide suite, quadruple glass sliding doors to wide balcony with potted flowers. South West facing Ocean Front. Bed was 2 queens and very comfortable. Daily maid and turndown service. Premium beer & liquor & bottled water. Powerful A/C. iPhone docking station. Satellite TV with big LCD screen. Nice drapes and colour schemes. Did not use Jacuzzi tub but shower was a huge walk-in with multiple heads. Grand Oasis was spotless from lobby to each floor to the beach. Fortunately we were far away from the college kids in Playa 1 and 2. Wifi was not free even with VIP.
Food & Service: The upgrade restaurants were good overall. VIP lounge and bar was excellent. Good food and service. Cocoa (seafood) and Bahia Rodizzio (Brazilian) restaurants were superb; great wine, food, service and atmosphere. I liked Dos Luna (Italian). The buffets were good but the college kids were loud and boorish,
Entertainment: nightly floor show in lobby of Grand Oasis. Acrobats ala Cirque Soleil were truly antigravity and entertaining. Mayan / Aztec show was excellent. Some great fire walking and dancing.
Excursions: Dolphin swimming Las Delfinas was good but expensive. Photos way overpriced.
Catamaran cruise to Isla Murejes was great. Spinaker sail diving was a thrill. So was snorkeling.
Overall, a great place to stay at if you get into Grand Pyramid. Many thanks to Nashla Lozand, Hotel Director, for the upgrade and advice. She made our holiday.

Avoid the other smaller buildings as they are getting past their prime and attract the entry level college kids on spring break. Stay away from Playa 1 & 2 buildings; the college kids are drunken animals. Totally out of control 24/7. Excessive use of alcohol, swearing and yelling and partying until daybreak to very loud music.

Room Tip: Room 5527 is a 6th floor corner unit - fantastic southerly view of beach. Quiet.

Theres the grand oasis and the oasis. Gets confusing but soooo worth the grand. It was $100 more we got 14 restaurant, a burlesque, mini fridge, away from cheap students parting all night, way better room, better towels. There is a seafood restaurant on the beach that only the grand get. OMG FABULOUS went I think 4 times. Asian buffet wasnt very good. If you dont get the grand it costs you $40 for the bar fridge and $30/ person for each restraint you want to eat at. There was this other restaurant that was amazing too they cooked fresh meat and came to your table and cut it off the stick for you. Staff was amazing. Overall really good. And not fret if you see all the reviews about it being the party place its really not that bad. We were scared but it was fine. They are all eating at different times and are up at different times so you dont see the partyers. Still lots o families and older couples. I wouldnt suggest going on spring break if you're not there to party. Great party resort but the disco smellls sooooooo bad. Food is different then Canada for sure so dont expect much and it will be better !! :P Staff was really nice. GREAT PRICE FOR THIS RESORT !! So dont expect the a Riu place when you go !!! BEACH IS THE BEST even better then cuba !!! I would suggest it over Dominican and cuba !! Its also safe and $1 to get the bus into town. DONT BE DUMB and you will be fine ! !! Alcohol itsnt every good but by the third you wont notice anyways. If you have the money I would go with beach view sooo worth it. Yes some things in the room are run down but it doesnt affect you. Also you're in MEXICO GET OUT OF THE ROOM !!! wifi is $35 for 5 days or $7/day

Room Tip: Request near the beach with balcony Do the grand SEAFOOD restaurant Airport is SOOOOO cold...
