If you don't like reading long reviews- in short, I will say that I will never return to this resort. The accommodations are average or worse, no activities day or night, buffet minimally acceptable, beach and water not enjoyable, pool not easily assessable and pathways and pool grounds hard to maneuver even when sober. Staff are terrific and the small size of the resort helps you meet a lot of other quests.

If you like to read a more in-depth review then read on;

This is a resort is used to sell time shares. You must attend a 60 to 90 min presentation. The presentation took a number of people 4 hrs, we refused to stay any longer after 3 hrs. Also found out after talking to some who have already bought timeshares that there is a number of costs they didn't tell us about. And we weren't told the whole truth for some specific questions we asked.

Have traveled to about 25 all inclusive resorts & this is the worse resort I have been to with the exception of one in Cuba. Traveled with someone who was sight impaired. Given 3rd flr room-no elevator and open stairs. One rainy day and the stairs would be wet and slippery- explained this was not acceptable. Then given the "only" other room avail -1st floor, newly refurbished! - had to walk down an alley that supplies were delivered through to get to room,no hot water, toilet didn't flush, TV didn't work, no clock radio, only 4 hangers in the closet, air-conditioning didn't work properly, safe wouldn't lock, pillow smelt like a towel that had been left to long in the washer & we found out the next morning that the lock on the sliding door wasn't working & had been open all night. Bellboy Esteban gave us his name and extension for any problems and we had to call so many times for repairs he knew our name after I would tell him our room number. I do have to say that someone arrived promptly to repair things after each phone call.

The buffet was very small with little choices and not much change from one day to the next - but we didn't get sick so food must at least be fresh. Breakfast was good - only bacon available was at the omelet station, but it was kept hidden and you had to ask for it. If you asked they made you hamburger and fries at lunch - but you don't know about this unless you see someone else eating it. Asked for a hotdog but they didn't have any. Desserts were always tasty. The waiters are very polite and usually attentive. Never had to wait long for anything except the hot water I wanted each morning. They deserve their tip. We tipped our cleaning lady everyday, but little was done in our room with the exception of making beds and cleaning up towels. Often found dirt left on the floor after the cleaning was done and we never got any cute towel animals. We had a fridge in our room (not everyone did) but you have to pick up your own bottled water from the bar - there is no charge for this so don't understand why the resort couldn't put some bottles in your room each day.

Wood stove cooked pizza of choice was good and service very quick.

Pool is small with no walk-in access. Have to use steel ladder that only had 2 very high rungs. The tipsy and elderly often needed a helping boost to get out. No shallow part to the pool - 5ft. Had a swim up bar where we met many, many people and the bartenders were great - thanks Omar! - very generous with the tequila shots.

Had an activity board stating when they would hold Pilates, water aerobics, volley ball, games etc.- nothing was ever held.

Beach was usually dirty, though raked every morning and the water so bad that few people went in. Cushions for the chairs on the beach were seldom out and there are few chairs around the pool. No sun cover of any kind at the pool - luckily we had mostly cloudy days so we didn't burn to a crisp. The ground cover around the pool & pathways were very strange large bumpy rocks that made walking quite difficult and slippery. My sight impaired sister-in-law always looked drunk trying to maneuver this walking area - LOL. Washrooms at the pool were very clean but had NO TOILET SEATS !!!! - very strange. To spend your day on a nice beach you had to take a 1/2 bus ride to their sister hotel.

We purchased the summer spa pkg at the time of booking the time share. This spa does not belong in this hotel. It is beautiful, restful, attractive, very professional- more suited to a 5 star The pkg we had included a 1/2 hr massage and a facial - whole thing lasted 1 hr and it was wonderful - well done ladies.

We did not use any of the specialty restaurants at this hotel. This resort has NO EVENING ENTERTAINMENT of any kind. They have no information to tell you the schedule of the shows at the sister resorts We went to one dinner/show at the Royal which turned out to be a buffet followed by a casino night using fake money - we didn't stay for the casino and the buffet was just average. We went to the 70,80,90's dinner/show at the Laguna resort and the food was pretty good and the show excellent- recommend this one. We also walked back to our resort that night and felt very safe - very enjoyable walk. Another night we went to the Mexican dinner/show at the Royal which was boring!! The dinner had little Mexican food and we actually left and sat in the lounge of the hotel waiting 1/2 an hr for the bus because the show was so poor. Mariachi band played no recognizable Mexican songs and to get the audience to applaud 2 resort guys stood behind them and started the clapping as they finished each song. All of these outings require (free) bus trips and waiting around for the bus to get home.

We did book the Captain Hook Pirate Ship dinner/show and had a wonderful time - won't spend anymore time on this since it has nothing to do with the resort except to say well worth the cost!! You can see reviews for this on this Trip Advisor board.

The only thing that saved this trip was the resort being so small we met many other guests & the waiters and bartenders are so friendly, they keep you smiling. Without these two things the experience would have been a disaster for my sister-in-law who was attending her first all-inclusive. As it is, we laughed so much with the people we met, she can hardly wait to try another - but not at this hotel. Dominican here we come.

I booked this vacation through premier Cancun vacations promotional deals, and have to admit i was very skeptical. This was my first time visiting Mexico and have to say it was wonderful. The staff at this hotel were awesome. Javier, kendor, and sheila were most attentive and friendly. The lady who makes the omeletes is very talented also. Alot of the staff do not speak english that well, but their friendliness and eagerness to try to help you make up for it.( After all it is mexico) The food is great and the drinks are plentiful, the "riviera maya" is my new fave drink. Very happy i went and hope to go back next year

Room Tip: If you want a beautiful uninterrupted view of the ocean i recommend the 4th floor above the back entrance. Slept every night with the balcony doors open to see the stars and smell that beautiful sea air

The service and staff was wonderful at the Ocean Spa Hotel in Cancun, Mexico especially Esteban (Bell Boy) he went over and above to help us out in any way he could. Very friendly and kind person. Food was great, pool very nice with swim up pool bar and great bartenders (Miguel & Omar). Miguel in the restauant was a great also. Susanna cleaned our room daily and left little towel animals. We took the shuttle to both Sunset Marina and Sunset Royale. I would say that Sunset Marina has the best pool with a slide and Sunset Royale has the ocean view and great beach and wonderful activities staff (Marisol). She was great and very entertaining.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor, king size bed, refrigerator, view of the ocean and a balcony. Very nice room although we had some leakage in the vent in the ceiling by the door. We put a towel down and no big deal.

The staff was great. Pasqual and Kendor in the restaurant were very friendly and nice and provided a great service. The cleaning ladies did a great job, the beds were changed and rooms cleaned daily. I just wish the hotel was located by the ocean not by the lagoon. We took the shuttle service to the Sunset Royal so we could enjoy the ocean. Overall it is a nice place to stay at to relax and enjoy.

Room Tip: We were in room 501, presidential suite with jacuzzi, and shower and great view of the ocean. It was big and very clean.
