During our trip to the BBC Sept 2004 (Blue Bay Club) it took about 1hour to check in, due to the 1 person on reception doing hundreds of jobs, we were then told that a bell boy would take us to our room, but after waiting a while I asked reception how long the bellboy was going to be? She bellowed "your room 2nd floor, round corner". So we had to make our own way to find our room, Oh and what a disappointment when we got to our room, it was Dull, Dark, and the bathroom was dirty. The air con sounded like a helicoptor in our room, we then opened the curtains that led onto the balcony and all we saw was the dusty road that we had come on, and the disgusting SMELL of sewage.
The hotel is nowhere near any of the other hotels, you are well and truly out of the way.
Next day we had a walk around the pool to find that the decking was not there due to hurricane damage, the swim up bar was boarded up, and the pool area was tiny, holding about 25 loungers around the pool, you might think, 'well go on the beach' we would of done but you had to dodge the mini tractors working on the beach with the sewage.
The beach was stoney and full of seaweed, and STUNK!
During our first nights sleep there was an adjoining door to the room next to us, there was lads staying in that room, about 3am they came back from a night out and woke us up by trying to get into our room laughing shouting and swearing rattling on the door.
Next day we tried to book the 1 restuarant that was at the hotel, to find out that once you have booked you then had to pay for your drinks, and you could only go in the restaurant TWICE in our TWO WEEKS stay????
We had our welcome meeting that day and asked our rep to move us, we ended up at the sister hotel, The Blue Bay Gettaway, and what a difference considering it was related to the Blue Bay Club, friendly staff, cleaner hotel, the food was delicious.
Our room was outstanding, we were taken to our room by the bellboy, the room was lovely, bright and clean and overlooking the sea, bed linin was changed everyday along with the room being cleaned everyday, what a difference.
Well you have been warned about the Blue Bay Club, the only visiter for that place should be the BULLDOZERS

my partner and i recently visited cancun and stayed in the bluebay club. It was only after i had booked the holiday did i find this site and start reviewing peoples comments on the hotel, i must say after i had read some of them i was a little worried !!! but the stay there was excellent, i was really pleased ! the hotel room we had was lovely, we had a gallery style room with a seaview . the chamber maids made sure our room was spotless everyday and would come when it was convient for you ! the hotel staff were so friendly and helpful and always around to guide you in the right direction ! There was a mixture of people all sorts of ages and the hotel catered for this. The buffett was excellent and there was a wide varierty of choice, we also ate in the speciality resturant while we were there and i have to say it was one of the nicest meals i have ever had, delicious!!! we were made to feel like royalty in there, and that night was one of the highlights of my holiday!!!!even though it was out of the way the hotel offers a bus service which comes on the hour, we did use this a lot but cabs are also pritty cheap. The hotel also organise nights out to all the clubs which was also a good idea ! I was pleased with every aspect of the hotel and was pleasantly suprised !!! 10 out of 10 !

Just returned from blue bay club ,stayed for 14 nights, booked as a late deal ,not reflected in price at all. as been to mexico before we were not surprised by rooms being basic ,hotel lobby clean and nice ,as were rooms ,cleaned every day.all staff were pleasant and helpful.date we wre there was 12 october to 26 october 2004.we had building work going on ,were told 2 men using hand tools but it was more than that with a bulldozer on the beach replacing the sand and putting more, decking on the poolside ,we were not put off but were disappointed with the noise of the work and we also had painters on our baloncy, painting ,we complained and was moved to a room further up the buliding, which was quiter but ,not so nice ,television we could not watch as all fuzzy ,and we had ants in our room .food in the hotel was ok ,no bad tummys ,but could be a bit repetative.
we went to oyster restaurant and it was lovely ,but i foolishly had oysters and was ill for the evening ,and then developed hives as did some other people. in all the holiday could have been better ,just had to make the most of it,we would go to cancun again but not to blue bay club, unless a lot lot cheaper it is only about a 2-3 star not as advertised as a 4 star.

just got back from BBC. Must agree that in terms of facilities it is not as good as the Getaway. But to be honest I appreciated the peace and quiet in the evenings, and was able to use the Getaway's facilities and have meals there while at the same time getting away from the noise. The beach wasn't that bad. I think the correspondent from sheffield has just had a bad experience. We were put into apartments on the other side of the road, and while dubious about them at first, they are larger than the beachside ones and also the small pool there is very clean and lovely and queit. the staff at BBC apart from the miserable so and so's on reception, couldn't do more to help. Not a bad holiday all in all,

We arrived late evening 21st September. 2004 at the Blue Bay Club (BBC), Cancun, Mexico for a two week vacation. On arrival at the BBC, the first thing that hit us was the disgusting smell of sewage. We were told it was the washed up seaweed after the hurricane, I don't think so, I know a seaweed smell and I know a sewage smell.

Never mind I thought, lets see what the hotel is like in the morning. Our room was dark and the bathroom was awful. Whoever did the tiling must have been an amateur. The next morning I opened the doors on the verandah hoping to see a clear blue sea, what I saw was a building site with piles of sand an excavater, dirty water and the dreaful sewage smell again.

I could not walk around this hotel without holding my nose all the time. Men were also working approx. ten feet away from the restuarant were we were supposed to have breafast and the smell was so appalling I could not eat.

We walked around to see the swimming pool, which was also not very clean and only enough room for twenty or so beds around the pool area. On the beach (pardon the pun) we had to keep dodging the excavator. One chap was in the sea was holding a very large black sack, which the driver of the excavator was filling with sand. There were several others of these sticking out of the water. Also, a few feet form the waters edge was a sort of platform with a huge pipe sticking in to it leading from the hotel. This was the sewage pipe.

The night of our first full day we were kept awake until 1am in the morning by two huge lorries and the excavator shifting and loading sand into the lorries and making piles of sand in other places.

There was no swim up bar as I thought there would be and the entertainment was shambolick and absolutly awful. OK if your aged 16 to 25 but if your over fifty forget it. The only food available to us on our arrival was cold 'hot' dogs.

After 48 hours I asked the rep to move us to the sister hotel the Blue Bay Getaway, if they hadn't I would not have stayed in that place, I would have been on the next flight back to England. We did move to the Blue Bay Getaway hotel in Cancun, and I can really recommend the hotel. It was a million times better in every possible way, much cleaner and the food was outstanding. I could not believe the two hotels could be related in any way.

I read most of the reports for this location on the Internet before we went and an American wrote "This hotel should be bulldozed". I also read that some people enjoyed it. I aways like to make my own mind up and judge a place for myself so I took everything with a pinch of salt. My verdict along with many more who were transferred, is that the place needs bulldozing.

This a true report and I am sure that others will agree. I have travelled all over the world so I feel experienced enough to know when a dump is a dump. Whoever says in other reports that it is lovely cannot have been staying in the same place.

We just returned from 8 days at the Blue Bay Club and had an unbelievably wonderful time! The rooms are rustic Mexican decor, very clean and huge. (we had a 2 bedroom ocean view) The food is great, the staff is genuinely nice and friendly, and the view is amazing! We ate at the Oysters restaurant twice and it was just perfect. The beach is beautiful even though there is a little too much seaweed to swim in the water, it is perfect to walk along. I have to mention also how well the hotel handled the near miss of Ivan. We arrived on Sunday the 12th, and enjoyed several hours of perfect weather, playing on the beach with the kids before heading to the room for a nap. We woke up to terrible winds and rain. (some of the hotel zone hotels were already being evacuated, many of them ending up at BB Club) After a great dinner, we settled down uneasily for the night. We were woke up around 2 am and told to come down to the lobby, and be ready to evacuate to town which is more inland. It was really scary for awhile, but thanks to the professional and calm way the staff took care of everything, it turned out instead to be quite an adventure. We hung out in the lobby (everyone in jammies with their blankets and pillows) for awhile before Ivan turned slightly and we were allowed to go back to our rooms. We remained somewhat on alert for the next day and night until Ivan had safely passed by, but through this whole time the staff were all very organized and helpful, even keeping the food and entertainment going, to keep our minds off of the situation. On Tuesday, the staff was able to start unboarding the windows and cleaning up the beach. (the beaches in the hotel zone were so damaged that they were closed the rest of the week) We went on to have an awesome vacation, visiting Chichen Itza, Xcaret, the Captain Hook Pirate dinner cruise, and Isla Mujeres. (which was part of the RCI package) I would highly recomend all of the above activities. (Xcaret is amazing, Ch. Itza is awe inspiring but SO HOT!!!, the pirate cruise was lots of fun for the whole family, just try to get on Captain Mundaca's ship, he is so hilarious... oh and the catamaran cruise to Isla mujeres was so relaxing and such fun, especially for a free tour) We went to the Getaway for massages and found that we much prefered the Club. The Getaway does have a bigger and somewhat more interesting pool area, but we found the rooms and public areas much less attractive. The lobby was small and dark, compared to the beautiful, bright lobby with the three story windows at the Club. They had plenty of fun entertainment at the club, but nothing (well almost nothing) that we wouldn't want the kids to see. (a few women without tops on the beach, and some slightly risque entertainment at the celebrity impersonation dinner show) Otherwise, no complaints whatsoever! Some of the staff we really appreciated were Laura, Tina, Alfredo, and Amigo. (plus many more that I can't remember the names... sorry) We had such a great time... the kids didn't want to come home! We will definately be back!!!
