It is a very nice hotel, the only problem we had was that our room was not ready by the time they said it would be, we received it about 1 hour later.

The food is OK, is not great but is acceptable, they have several options of everything. Is good value for your money.

It has a very nice location and 5-min rides in bus to the nightclubs and malls.

Have stayed at many resorts in carribean and I have to say this is the only resort I would never go back to. Service, food and most other accommodations at resort extremely poor. Traveled with another family, both of us having children with special needs and staff actually rude to us when requesting minor adjustments for our children. Recommendation: DON'T GO!

I have stayed here in the past. The property is great. Staff is friendly. Food is excellent. There are many different restaurants to choose from. Make sure if you are wanting to eat dinner at a location other than the buffet, you make dinner reservations in advance, sometime locations book up quickly. The grounds are beautiful, great walking beach. Great place if traveling with children.

Stayed at Barcelo Tucancun for 7 days. After having been delighted by the service and quality in the Dominican Republic the prior year, I was expecting a similar experience. I was unfortunately very disappointed.

Reception assistance was matter of fact at best and unhelpful at worst. Demonstrated a real lack of customer service.

The food served at the restaurants was also quite mediocre. Breakfast was decent, but lunch and dinner often left one wanting to eat elsewhere.

The entertainment was ambitious but came off a bit amateur due to setup of venue - school style versus theater style.

On the plus side, some of the staff at restaurants and pool were friendly and helped make the stay more comfortable.

The rooms were clean and a decent size as well. Beds also very comfortable - important after a long day at the beach!

Overall, given price it provided for an average stay.

My second time to Cancun in 2012. My expectations of this hotel were not quite met; nevertheless, the beach sand in this area is fine and pure. I was pleased with the staff service as well as the food served at the buffets. The staff are pleasant and I truly believe they try to promote being good hosts. The rooms (I had two adjoining units, 3031/3033 on the 3rd floor facing the "swamp side") were clean but a bit noisy for sleeping due to what sounded like a generator running all night. I did inform the staff that the A/C and the clock radio were broken, which they promptly fixed after the room was cleaned. The shower door did not shut tight and kept opening while in use... a bit annoying.

The location is perfect: a step onto the beach; across the street to a mall; excellent bus service.

As for hotel amenities, I wasn't too picky because I didn't spend much time in the hotel during the day. However, I was surprised to be charged $6 for trying unsuccessfully to make a few collect telephone calls. The hallway noise was pretty noticeable, although I believe the din my family made during competitive card games likely echoed throughout the floor.

Best liked: mini fridges stocked daily with cerveza... complimentary. Otherwise, nothing else would be considered "best liked".

Least liked: Barcelo tours reps lurking around to have you buy cheaper excursions in return to sit through a "vacation club" promotion. They say it's not a time share... but the result is kind of the same: prepay for future trips. In passing, I did attend what was supposed to be a 90 minute presentation, and turned out to be a 450 minute time commitment (yes, that's 5 hours!)... my kids will always remember that I "took one for the team".

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the beach.

Mr. Campos,

Our latest stay in November 2012 at the Barcelo Tucancun was absolutely all we wanted, needed, and could ever have anticipated! Many thanks, Sir.

We have experienced other Barcelo Resorts and all have been wonderful. However, Francisco and the entire Staff of the Barcelo TuCancun are the main reason(s) we return to that particular resort time after time! The amenities, the hospitable and very lovely reception from the Staff curbside and check-in Staff - we always receive and experience great things at Barcelo TuCancun. To the maids that make the chaos in our rooms into organized loveliness and charm again, to the personnel that stock our refrigerators daily, to the grounds keepers – they are all wonderful and to be commended.

Well, I did my homework both on TripAdvisor and the internet and chose the hotel due to its location, facilties & price and booked with Thomas Cook through work.

We arrived, and the hotel looked seemingly ok....views and location on the beach was great, garderns and pools looked amazing! Checked in, and we had a room on floor 5 overlooking the Lagoon at the back of the property...our room was above the hotels Air Conditioning Units, which were extremely noisy both through the day and night. The hotel corridors resembled a prison corridor, doors slamming and eveyrthing echoeing.

By the 4th night, we noticed fleas on the walls, bathroom, bed sheets, balcony, everywhere. We immediately asked to move, being given a 7th floor seaview room with no balcony. After 3 more nights, we discovered fleas, again in the beds, under the beds, walls and wardrobes and asked to be moved again. The rep wasn't helpful & we got a 3rd view room with balcony & seaview - again with fleas....lots more this time! We asked to move and the recpetion staff repeated that they didnt understand us and refused to serve us, instead turning their backs and laughing.

Cleanliness is non-existent...our maid came to the room each evening around 5pm/5:30pm...towels were not changed daily nor was the bedding, floor was never swept in any room, and I even left some paper under the beds in our 3rd room - it was there for 5 days until we left! Showing you that under the beds where never even brushed!
Our 3rd room change, we got to look at the room before they cleaned it for us so we could change into it - I MARKED THE TOWELS & BEDDING WITH BLACK BIRO TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD BEEN CHANGED....AN HOUR LATER WE MOVED TO THE ROOM AS IT HAD BEEN "CLEANED FOR US" THE BEDDING & TOWELS STILL HAD THE SAME BIRO MARKS ON! THEY HADN'T BEEN CHANGED FROM THE PREVIOUS GUESTS WHO HAD BEEN IN THE ROOM!!!!!

The food was extremely repetitive - we are not fussy eaters and explore local cruising, however each evening Pork, Chicken and Beef was served in Annatto Sauce (a spicy tomato sauce), this also was served the following morning at breakfast & lunch. The food was always cold and tasteless, whether you used the Mallorca or Poolside buffet or the a la carte restaurants. And we even saw people scraping their leftovers back into the buffet dishes!!

The Russian clientele are extremely rude and loud, and the hotel is starting to show this - becoming very tired and tatty. The staff in general are unhelpful and rude apart from Esther in the Poolside Buffet who was the exception and nothing was too much trouble.

The beach, pools and gardens was the best bits of the holiday. Tucancun was a complete let down and we couldnt wait to leave. I would strongly recomment the Ritz Carlton just 2 hotels away or the Excelsior Chain...Barcelo have a lot to say about this hotel!
