“Best Cancun Family Oriented Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2010

Excellent family resort with beach front! The spacious villas have two bedrooms and all have ocean view. They have activities for the kids and five large pools including an olympic pool. The manager Juan Arguello and the general director Armando Millet Molina are very attentive and the developers Armando Millet Sr. and Richard Sutton are always overseeing the operation to make sure that service is of upmost quality! It is a tru Royal Resort! I have been coming to Royal Resorts since they openned the Royal Mayan in 1985. And it is like my home!

iv'e never written a review before and iv'e been to many places in the caribbean but I just wanted to share something with you that I have never seen in these royal resort reviews. The pools are beautiful in all the royal resorts but they are 5ft high. This may not be a problem for a lot of people but someone like me who is only 5ft2 there is a problem. I enjoy doing the exercises in the morning but unless i wanted to drown , I couldn't. Am I the only person who found this a problem? Other than that everything was perfect. It is a beautiful place. I would go back again ill just bring my snorkelHA HA

We have the 21st week at the Royal Sands and it was marvelous! The resort extended our beach considerably. After hurricane "Wilma" we didn't have much of a beach but the Royal Sands definately extended the beach and it was GREAT!!! The resort is very clean and family friendly. Everyday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. is happy hour and with every purchase of a mixed drink or beer you get free chips and salsa but remember you need to purchase a drink! Soda does not qualify as a drink! The resort does not have an ATM machine but does accept VISA and MASTERCARD. One day we went to Market 28 and found it to be a tourist trap. Locals approach you as if they know who you are and where you are staying. The resort staff warned us about this prior to us leaving. We also found that the resort staff keeps track of their guests by asking where you are going to ensure the safety of their guests, which I found that to be a great thing! We also were also warned that some taxis increase their rates if you're staying at any of the The Royal Resorts!!! All in all it was a great vacation and we will be returning again!!! Thanks to the Royal Sands and their staff for another great year!!!

Stayed for a week and enjoyed our stay. The staff was exceptionaly friendly and there were no pushy sales people trying to make a sale. It is a timeshare resort so we were contacted but did not feel pressure to attend a sales presentation. The place was very clean and well maintained. The beds in the lock off room where not the best but they provided us with a eggshell pad to add and that was very helpful. People that were very helpful to us. Miguel at the pool bar, Nora in housekeeping, and the concierges Liz.

We took a day trip to Talum and Xel-ha (Shell ha). It is a bit spendy but I would recommend it if you have never been to a Myan Ruin. If you have don't bother. Xel-ha is a natural inlet with with snorkleling. If you go there it has several restaurants which are all inclusive including drinks. Not a bad deal. The have free life vest and snorkle and fin rentals are free with deposit. They will take cash or debit/credit card but not American Express.

The hotel food is pretty good, but if you want a treat try the Puerto Madero jut down the road. A little more spending but the food and service was great. Four of us went and spent about $300 including a couple bottles of wine.

They have a onsite gym/spa. You can pay $12 a visit or get a week pass for $50. The pass on return visits if you don't use the entire week while there. It was very nice with good equipment. The shower and spa are was very clean and relaxing.

We traveled to Cancun for the first time in September 2009. We loved Cancun and The Royal Sands so much that we immediately booked another trip back in May 2010. This resortt is incredible. Happy hour everyday at the swim up bar - starts at 4 and lasts until 8. You can enjoy $2.50 margaritas and they even give you free chips and salsa! My husband and I do not eat a lot while on vacation and the limited food we ate at the resort other than our happy hour debut every day was not something we would highly rate. The villas at the resort are very spacious/clean and the maid that comes in daily is meticulous. The overall resort is very well kept. The beach is not real wide, but there is certainly enough room to enjoy yourself. The resort is within walking distance of an upscale mall. Also, there is a stop right near the resort for the local bus that only costs around 50 cents one way to all the "hot spots". We used the local transporation and found it to be easy and we felt very safe. We went to Senior Frogs one night and let me tell you what - they know how to have a good time! (We didn't eat, it was a liquid diet that night!). We also went to Bubba Gumps and Margaritaville while we were in Cancun. Solid food at those two restaurants, they are chains. One day we traveled on a bus tour to Tulum and Xe Hei. I would not recommend doing that. There seemed to be more area's that were heavily guarded as you traveled further south and Cancun was just so wonderful that we couldn't wait to get back from our bus tour. I would recommend going to Cancun and I would definately recommend this hotel.

Check in at the Royal Sands took minutes...no timeshare pitch at all. Stayed in a two room villa which had one room with king size bed and other had two queens. Huge patio/balcony room on 7th floor overlooking pools and ocean. Was able to get Wifi out on the balcony and in one of the bedrooms.

On site market was a God send. Used it all the time. Prices were reasonalbe and there was no need to look for larger grocery stores. Ate at the Veranda Restaurant once for a buffet and a second time off the menu. Was happy with both meals.

Only downside to the resort was the beach. We love spending time in the water and was surprised to find you couldn't just walk in. There was a four foot ledge you had to climb down to get to the beach and for most of the time we were there the red flags, meaning no swimming, were up.
We did stay at the beach all day every day and truly loved watching the ocean. This is a great resort and the staff could not do enough for you. What amazed me was that each morning a small army of employees walked the beach in formation armed with plastic buckets to collect trash. Needless to say the beach was spotless.

Don't think anyone could go wrong staying here. If anyone needs any more info. just let me know.

Our first stay in Cancun was at Royal Sands Resort in Sept 2009. Even before we left home...the Royal treatment began. We were contacted by our concierge 2 weeks before we arrived to have any special arrangements (groceries, airport pickup...) taken care of.

We arrived in Cancun by 10:30 am...and were checked into the resort and in our room by Noon. We hit th beach immediately and enjoyed a full afternoon relaxing on the beach and by the pool. We stayed in a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom Ocean View Villa in Phase 2.

The rooms are large with plenty of space...the balconies oversized and comfortable. The location is prime with nearby shopping/restaurants and the entire trip was totally enjoyable.

Awesome gym (not free) and spa facilities. Good restaurant on site...with full or ala carte breakfast and theme nights. Really have no complaints about our visit (other than having to pay to use the gym. Free shuttle / complementary visits between all the Royal Resorts in the area is a nice plus.

If you are considering this resort...don't worry...you'll enjoy your stay. We have plans to return to Royal Sands later this year.
