My family and I (2 adults, an 11 year old, and 2 year old twins)just returned from a week at the Royal Sands. The resort is incredible! Everything is kept in excellent condition (very, very clean). The pools were beautiful and warm (they keep them heated). The villas are immaculate and have a fantastic layout. Everything is new and fresh. The staff is courteous, friendly, and really helpful. Everyone from the other vacationers to the maids was happy and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home. We loved our vacation! My oldest enjoyed the activities at the Activity Center and the little ones loved the shallow kiddy pools. I cannot say anything negative about the place. Even the pricing in the stores and restaurants was reasonable. Once at the resort, we had no reason to leave. The food and service was excellent. They have everything you could want right at the resort. My daughter even had to see the resort doctor for an ear infection and we were seen within 15 minutes of going to the medical office (with no appointment). The Sands is a time share resort, but we were never pressured to even sit through a presentation (we were only renting). The sales staff is low key, and they know that the resort sells itself. We will definitely be going back next year (maybe as owners).

My wife and I just returned from the Royal Sands. Initially we were worried about damage to the Hotel from recent Hurricanes. Upon arrival we found the hotel to have no damage at all. Some of the beach has washed away but there was still plenty of room on the beach for sunning. As a matter of fact, pumps from Holland have arrived and the hotel is in the process of transferring sand from the ocean back to the beach. The rooms were beautiful and the pools were great. The Royal Sands is the most beautiful resort within the Royal Chain. We ate at all of the restaurants with the Royal Chain of Hotels. Every restaurant was great. The Hotel service is also excellent.

This property is truly lovely. The pools, the gardens, the lobby, the balconies with fabulous carribean water views, even the living rooms and kitchens are wonderful. However, things after that are not as great. My family recently returned from our trip to the Royals where we had sucessfully traded to using Interval International. We were understandably excited as this was supposed to be a premier Interval resort. We arrived and were greated warmly by our assistant concierge and given a lovely room. Things seemed to detieriorate from there... or should I say we discovered by TripAdvisor calls this a 3 star not a 5 star.
The beds... I have had more comfortable beds at a Fairfield Inn for $55 a night. The sheets were better quality as well. In fact, the sheets on one bed were dirty and it took 6 phone calls and 8 hours to get them changed...
Then... 19-inch TV's... now you may say... you're not there for TV but still... I have never seen a living room television in a 2-bedroom condo that small before.
Sunday morning we attended the "Welcome meeting" this started with a great introduction to the area and overview of the property and what was working in Cancun (very helpful) however, following the meeting you were cornered by your conceirge and the Condo sales "beatdown" began. Now, I know every condo wants to do this but what we found particularly disturbing was the Royal personnel attitude of "Royal is the BEST" We own a Marriott Timeshare and lets just say there is no comparision... Marriott has large TV's, amazing beds, double sinks, and jacuzzi tubs... (These were all missing at Royal Sands). And they continually told us that Marriott copied them and they were the "Star in Interval International's program" No comparision I would choose Marriott anyday.
Now for the food. The food is average I am not sure how people can say it is excellent???? It's beach food... and you need to remember that! We ate in every restaurant at the Sands at least twice and the Phase II Pool Bar "La Palapa" was the only one that seemed capable of a decent hamburger. A bright spot for food was at the Royal Mayan. El Conquistador was AMAZING!!! Very small and intimate... make reservations early.

LASTLY BEWARE OF TOMAS MOORE TRAVEL!!! Especially if you are going the next two months. Many other places are running deals for tours, etc... but TOMAS MOORE isn't. Also, the Royal Marina across from the Sands has tours that are about 40% less if you DO NOT tell them you are Royal Resort guest... is this right... I'll let you decide. Seems like a scam to me.

Overall it was a decent trip but know that you are getting a 3-star room with 3-star food, 4-star service, and lovely 5-star facilities.

we stayed there again December 10-17 2005. As of that time only 2 hotels and the 5 Royal Resorts were open.
we were treated wonderfully and things there were great. I can only stay in phase 1 of this resort though due to a musty smell in the lobby of phase 11.
they have been working hard to get things to look like before the hurricane wiped everything out.

the hotel zone looks like a bomb went off there in the party area. It is very sad to see still. If you are looking for a party time i don't suggest Cancun at this time but if you want great food and alot of space along with peace, this is the place to run to now.

i do a mission trip the Rancho Veijho every year when we go to Cancun and i have to say that the people living in this area need help now more than ever. If your so inclined, and would like to bring along extra items to give away or want more info, you can contact me directly at jkadaj@msn.com. Please help these wonderful people so they can continue to live while the area is getting back to normal and even after.

We just returned from a glorious week at the Royal Sands. Everything about it was fantastic. We enjoyed many meals at the restaurants there as well as the Royal Mayan where there was a wonderful mexican buffet and a show while we ate. The shuttle bus that runs between all of "The Royals" was very convenient. Every employee we encountered was very friendly and very helpful indeed. We used the gym facilities - laundry and even got a couple of haircuts and highlights. The kids really enjoyed painting ceramics and now I get to enjoy them around my house. We were there at Christmas and everything was very festive. I would recommend The Royal Sands to anyone and everyone! If you are afraid of being caught in a hurricane - don't go near an ocean during hurricane season.

Just returned from a relaxing week at Royal Sands. Service was fantastic as usual, food was excellent and the grounds look great. Everything is back in order. Glad we did not let the hurricane stop us. You would never know there was a hurricane a month ago! Cant wait to go back this spring.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay (Nov 19 - Dec 3) at the Sands. What a pleasure to find the place in fantastic shape. The staff was just marvelous. They worked so hard to get everything ready for our stay. The Sands is just as spotless as always. The beach is getting better everyday. Everything we wanted to do was available to us in the area, the Mexican Government and the citizens are working so hard to clean up and improve Cancun.
