last year went to cancun to stay at the omni/hilton and was stopped by a sales rep for royal sands. We toured the SANDS and he offered us a trial membership to come back the next year and stay at the sands. Went there in June and transportation that they said was free was charged to our bill (76.00) and found out we were not staying at the sands but at there other resort which is not what we signed for. We only wanted the sands bc its the newest one and for 1700.00 plus another 1900.00 in airfare we got scammed! They told us the room we were suppose to stay in was sold, so they let us come there believing we were staying at the sands. Axil our host decided not to meet with us until the day before we left, bc he heard we were upset! No suprise. Yet, he had the nerve to try to sell us a every other year at the resorts. Royal sands refuses to contact me regarding this, as I have emailed and called their resorts to complain. I guess they got our 1700.00. I know those who own are happy with this resort but never do a trial membership.

My wife and I just returned from the Royal Sands in Cancun and had an exceptional stay. It was definitely top of the line. The place was very clean and orderly. The rooms were spacious with lots of amentities. The poolsides were marvelous. We had a beachfront suite with an unbelieveable view of the ocean. The service was great! I will be back next year.

From the moment the 6 of us arrived we were impressed. My friends have a timeshare and traded for a week at the Royal Sands. Two couples shared a villa, we had a seperate room. Both rooms were immaculate and close to each other. The views from both rooms were great. An extra good feature is a safe in the room, as you only need your Royal sands card while out in the resort area. The pools are beatiful, and I suggest the Leapin Lizards at Happy Hour, go for the large. The beach front was also fantastic with showers near by to rinse the saltwater. I have to admit the water was a bit rough that week, yellow and red flag warnings, but we ventured in. The beach is so blue and after a long MA winter it was wonderful. I have to rave about the Royal Bandstand restaurant and the service there. We ate there 3 times in our week stay. Manuel is the best, has a great sense of humor, good suggestions, and makes animal ballons for you too. I recommend the Arrucha steak, but every time we ate there we were all impressed. The prices were great too, consider 6 for dinner, drinks, appetizers, and desserts @160.00, back home that meal would of cost us double. The Royal sands offered a fun free sailing for each villa at the Lagoon and free shuttle bus, plus gave great directions downtown. We were able to rent a car for the day, or book a trip through the travel center. This was good, but definetly check out the options, as it was much cheaper for the 6 of us to rent a Windstar and see Tulum and Playa de carmen ourselves, and drivign in Cancun was easy, just ask Kathy.
Overall this was a great vacation, no one got the Cancun stomach and we ate most meals attatched to the Royal Resorts. I didn't drowned in the waves and wish I was back on the beach now. The only complaint I have is there were no pens or Kleenex in the room.

The Royal Sands in Cancun is the best property of all the Royal Resorts. They have 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suites that are very clean and comfortable. You can also just use one bedroom with or without the kitchen/living room. But both rooms have a balcony that overlook the beautiful Caribbean ocean. The service is great and there are on-site services such as, travel/tour desk, free shuttle service to the other Royal resorts, rental car desk, medical office, nicely stocked grocery store, large gift shop and a business center. They allow you to use their snorkel gear, bikes, beach towels and sail boats free during your stay. They have many great actvities planned throughout the week, for example, free drinks by the pool on Sundays, Taco Party on Tuesdays, etc. They have 2 restaurants, one pool side and ther other more fancy with nightly entertainment, that serve great american, bbq, seafood, italian and mexican food. I highly recommend staying at this resort. This is a timeshare resort however, so you may be invited to meet with a representative. But you can always decline if this doesn't interest you. Things to be weary of: make sure you lock your valuables in the safe provided as this is just common sense, be sure to watch your bill throughout the week since you charge everything on your room key which can leave you clueless as to how much you are spending and lastly using their airport tansfer service, Thomas Moore, can be time consuming since they wait to fill up their van before going to ro from the airport, so take a taxi instead!

To the Tripadvisor from Chicago - no I am not a salesrep and all I can say is what planet are you from? The Royal Sands was impecably clean with a beautiful beach and pool. The Royal Bandstand restaurant at the resort serves incredible food and a great ambiance. The Royal Sands is by far the cleanest resort I have ever been to. I own a timeshare elsewhere and traded to come to The Royal Sands. I am used to beautiful resorts and the Royal did not fail. As far as the pool being too cold - it is refreshing, afterall its hot out. As far as everyone being 60+, the week I was there, there were a ton of middle aged and young people. A mix of everything. It was absolutely lovely and I would recommend it to anyone. If anyone goes to the Bandstand restaurant there please say hi to Valentin the waiter at the bar and tell him Maria from Canada said hello. There are all sorts of activities going on, enjoyed the Karaoke, staff and waiters are superb. Enjoy the Royal!

We booked our stay at the Royal Sands through hotels. We had a suite with a full kitchen. The boys had two pull-down murphy beds. The suite was immaculate. The staff was very nice. The people at the check-in desk, could be a little nicer and smile. If you have children in their late teens or early 20's, you may want to find a hotel that caters to a younger crowd. But, if you want a nice quiet hotel, this is the place.
