“Awesome Time”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

We recently returned from our all-inclusive week at the Royal Sands. The room were spacious and I really enjoyed the separate entrance for the 2nd bedroom so the two 18 year olds could come and go without disturbing us. The food was good and plentiful. The drinks were cold and always hit the spot (just wish I could have gotten the cans of Corona included in the all-inclusive rather than having to pay for them) The resort is very clean and the service is outstanding. The staff was incredibly nice and always smiling. Special shout-out to Sergio who took care of us pool/beachside he went above and beyond in making our days at the pool enjoyable. We also can’t forget our main man Fehr in the La Veranda restaurant, he was outstanding and we typically tried to sit in his section to enjoy his first class treatment. One recommendation, if you have beautiful HD TV’s in the room and bar areas make it so they actually receive an HD signal. I would whole heartedly recommend the Royal Sands for an all-inclusive vacation.

I recently booked this resort as a package deal through another site and we booked it as an all inclusive. Well, this is not really an all inclusive. Only half of our group, of 22 people, had the all inclusive option,. Sometimes you would be asked to give them your card and sign a receipt, for 0$ and sometimes they would never even check. It was very frustrating, especially for our teenagers who just wanted to go an eat and it would take forever for them to get their cards back and close the bill. A good thing to do is to visit the Mexican and Steak place that are "off property" and included in the all inclusive package.

Overall the service was poor and it took forever to be waited on at the buffet, pool bars and beach. On the other hand, service at the off property locations was OUTSTANDING!! But on site you do not have much to choose from. You have the Buffet restaurant and then pool side dining. The only real bar is the Sports Bar and it has limited outside seating and only serves Pizza and Sushi. (odd combo, yes)

No doubt that the villas are great and every room has a great view. For what this is... a TIME SHARE PROPERTY, it is fine. But it should not be sold to the general public as a n all inclusive resort option. I would not visit again.

Room Tip: Request a beach side villa on the ground floor. You can literally walk out to the door to the palapa...

My wife and I had an enjoyable time during our week at the Royal Sands.
The staff is friendly and helpful, the pools and beach are terrific, and, while we can never completely enjoy all-inclusive places just because we don't drink enough to make that part of the deal seem worth it, the four available restaurants were all good.
My wife had four different spa treatments during our week, and she raved about their spa and their people. I used the workout center which is very nicely equipped with free weights and machines.
Overall, we recommend Royal Sands as a vacation spot for families and couples.

This place used to be wonderful, quiet and a nice place to relax. However, since they went all inclusive it has gone to the drunks. If you are looking for loud noise, partying and bar fights, this is the place to be. Used to be the pool bar closed at 6 and the pool was fairly quiet then. Not anymore. People at the pool hooting and hollering until way past 8 PM. So sad to see it go this way as I used to love the place.

I really wanted to love this place. The rooms are awesome for families. We had a 2 bedroom unit which was perfect for our needs. The heated pool is fantastic, very rare for the area. The beach area is beautiful....pristine blue water. We had the all inclusive package which was OK...not that many choices of restaurants compared to other places we've been. Now to the criticisms. We have been to many Caribbean resorts and we understand that we need to get up early in the morning to get beach or pool seats at some but we never experienced anything quite like this. People were literally getting to the beach at 430a in order to save a hut. Our relaxing vacation turned into anything but as my wife scrambled out of bed in the dark each morning to try to save a precious hut. Oh yeah, you actually aren't allowed to save seats and they started to enforce that about halfway through our trip but that just meant that people had to scramble back to their saved seat once an hour. The bottom line is there simply aren't enough seats for the total number of guests at this property. One last thing...they have a ridiculous towel policy here too. You have to sign out the towels each day and return the same amount. One day, someone swiped one of our towels while we were swimming in the pool. We explained it to the towel guy and he said it should all even out in the end and not to worry. At check out, they charged us $12 for the missing towel. What a joke. The towel was barely worth 10 pesos, trust me. Anyway, if not for these things, this place could be so good. Maybe they will get their act together

We recently returned from a week at the Royal Sands using a friend's 2 bedroom oceanfront timeshare. It was great. (We've previously stayed at the Casa Magna Marriott, which is also terrific.)
The rooms were spacious....there were 6 of us, with 2 20-something's using the Murphy beds. Let's face it, the Murphy beds are much more suited to young kids but it worked. Everyone at the resort was very helpful. I want to quickly say that the bartender at the pool - Patricio - was the BEST! Look for him and you'll have a great time. He was attentive to us and everyone else. He remembered your name, your likes and dislikes....just provided unparalleled service.
The rooms are serviced everyday, it was quite clean throughout the resort. If you're staying here, spend the money on oceanfront, the balcony is huge. We were on the second level so didn't need to use the elevator, but I understand the rooms at the top have higher ceilings...interesting but not important.
We bought the all-inclusive which is worth it even if you just have breakfast, lunch and drinks, as most alcohol is included. The restaurant options are limited so we went off plan a few times. If you're traveling with people who like to eat and or snack throughout the day, the cost is worth it.
It's very family oriented. We were there during April so we were concerned about wild spring breakers...not at all the case here.
Overall a great time!!

We stayed there 2nd week of April with two young boys and a three year old. The place was wonderful. The whole place was spotless and beautiful. The service was flawless. However be aware of the timeshare pitch. I have wasted a whole day They take you on a bus to another resort. What supposed to be 11/2 hour presentation turns into half a day, and the rest of the few hours you sit on the beach or the pool. Than back on the bus for over an hour one way trip. I truly feel I have been lied to. They gave me a discount for one of the attractions, but it was not worth wasting the whole day. Also be aware that the food included in the all inclusive very basic. Besides a good breakfast, I was not looking forward to any restaurants. There are many things to choose from, but I did not see any quality lunch or dinner menu. We went to Captains Cove, but anything decent was extra. Room service was great. With a three year old falling asleep, and us not wanting to go out, it was very accommodating. Although food was just slightly above fast food quality. Besides that, it was a dream vacations and I don't regret it. However a little more evening activities would be nice. I am not interested in teenager resort, but this was an old timer atmosphere. Went to the bar few times, and people were playing bingo.
