“Great Hotel with Kids and Grandkids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014

This was our second stay at the Hard Rock and we actually enjoyed it more than the first time. The kids (6 to 19) loved the pool area and the activities. We loved the restaurants especially the Asian which we went to twice. The kids also liked being able to order room service. We're thinking about going back for a third stay.

Room Tip: Our room was near the elevator which was not good. People are coming and going at all hours of the n...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

Had a great time during our family stay at Hard Rock Cancun in May. For quick reference, we live in the Midwest (USA), are in early 50’s and our “Kids” are 25,23,and 19. We have stayed at several all-inclusive over past 6-7 years (RUI, Iberostar, Sandals, Hard Rock Punta Cana, ) so we have a perspective from these past experiences. Overall had a great time and will go back again.

The resort is lively (some call it loud) but I rather refer to it as a lively and fun resort. The entertainment staff is excellent (especially Jessica who is so energetic and friendly). Just grab the weekly agenda at the front desk and jump into the activity of your liking (huge water slide on beach, water aerobics, volleyball games (pool and beach), soccer on beach, foam party is crazy fun concept, bikini contest at pool, battle of the bands on the beach, daily silly games pool side, etc.).

Crowd – “fun” - We really enjoyed the international crowd and met some great people from US as well. The overall crowd seemed to be more in the 20-30’s as a popular place for destination weddings, but we had no problems meeting up with some fun people in that 40-50’s range. Kids met some great people from Europe, Canada, Latin America, etc. Was a fun bunch that enjoyed the more lively setting and activities. No over the top drunks or obnoxious people but some classic people watching opportunities.

Staff - “excellent” - was very friendly and truly wanted to help you to have a good time. Yes we tipped so at the pool and beach the ladies stopped by frequently. Tipped after dinner as the wait staff earned and deserved the money. Room staff did a nice job getting to our room to clean and then turn down service later. Room service was quick – used a couple times – maybe 15-20 minute wait for basics.

Food – “really good” - the Hibachi (Zen) was our favorite – ate there twice – once at the “fix in front of you” and once at a table/order off menu. Both excellent – the Sushi is very good as my son and I ate every type they had to offer. Mexican was good – in part thanks to the excellent service from Julio (sp?). Used Market Place for breakfast most days. Hostess Ruissa (sp?) was so pleasant and greeted us by name after the first day. The burgers, pizza, nachos, hot dogs all very good pool side daily.

Drinks- “good” - don’t be afraid to ask for a double pour if you want it stronger. Did that on my bourbon drinks. Have all the tropical foo-foo drinks you want. Can describe what you want and they will surprise you with a one of a kind drink.

Rooms –“okay” - Smaller that some (HR Punta Cana, Iberostar) but were fine. YES, there is noise from the hallway but only bothered us one night. Mostly folks just not being courteous in the hallway later at night. Beds are fine, bathroom is good nothing over the top – only 1 shower head and toilet and shower in same area and sink area is a more open concept style. Balcony not much. Stay on top 3 floors – larger balcony and concierge service perks.

Pool – “Very nice” Only 1 of the 2 pool bars was open (other one under remodeling construction) so all the action seemed to be at one end. Took a bit longer to get a drink at the swim up bar, but that might have been a blessing in disguise. Fun people watching. A bit of the towel game for the really good chairs so you will figure out what time you need to grab a chair after the first day. We got our seats around 8am each day.

Beach –“Excellent” - as good as people say. Wide and smooth – plenty of chairs – we walked for miles. Water was aggressive (which I like) and red-flag a couple days so still swam but life guards kept us in certain areas. Took floats with us – was nice to just float up and down over the waves and watch the world go by. Note: Scuba guy will air up floats for a “tip”.

SPA "amazing" per the ladies in the family. Used Resort credits - great deal.

Nightlife (on resort) - “Fun and Lively” – just not much of it - Being a smaller resort they do not have the space like HR Punta Cana so they convert lobby into an entertainment space (Karaoke, etc.) and then the Brazilian Restaurant was converted to a disco 3-4 nights while there. A lot depends on the crowd and audience participation. Nightly shows are decent. MJ show was really good and well attended. Otherwise most shows are about 30-50% full.

Activities: (Off site)
Scuba Diving with Dressel divers – “excellent” - (not onsite at this Hard Rock location), but this dive company is well worth the effort to dive with them. I have used them for the last 4-5 years at various Caribbean locations. Myself and 2 of my children are certified and they took great care with other daughter who was doing a resort dive. www.dresseldivers.com

XPlor park –“excellent” - a fun day of zip line, swim through “caves”, and driving vehicles through 2 different 3-4 miles trials in the countryside and caves. Did private reservation through Entertainment-Plus.net – very professional and good experience. Got a private van for us 5 that got us there before the tour /hotel bus loads. Only cost 15-20 USD more for the private reservation. Well worth it … just make sure you call them about 30 minutes before ready to leave XPLOR if you end before closing time.

Coco Bongo “unique experience” – group of about 12 of us got VIP tickets (80 USD each) through Vacation Planners at Hard Rock Hotel. Yes you can find cheaper tickets but careful you know what you are paying for. We got transportation there on a nice charter bus, escort in via a VIP entrance and a VIP table (stand up table) toward the front, and all we could drink. We tipped our server early and often and never ran out of beer, bourbon, vodka drinks. Left hotel at 10pm and left Coco Bongo’s at 3am… had a great time - great show, dancing, and people watching. Grabbed a taxi, back to hotel, right out the door and never felt unsafe at all. There is heavy police presence to ensure tourist safety. Just be smart and stay together.

Room Tip: room on top 3 floors. Tip the staff. let your hair down and have some fun.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

Hi Everyone,

I returned from the Hard Rock Cancun this past Sunday after being there for about 5 days/4 nights with family. I will break down my trip by category to make it easy for you all.

Shuttle from Airport: Booked thru Apple vacations so my round-trip shuttle was included in the price. It was great. No issues whatsoever. Upon arrival, we were given a drink and cold towel to greet us.

Check-In: Check in process was fast, but when we arrived to our room, my parents were a little disappointed as they just got back from the hard rock punta cana and were impressed with the accommodations there much more. Although we dont spend much time in the room, other than to sleep, we found looking out at the dumpsters unacceptable. We went down to concierge and after about 20 minutes they upgraded us to a similar room but a front entrance view (which was better than nothing). We didnt like the fact that they wanted to charge us $20 more a day though. We were there to celebrate a birthday, so it put a damper on things until they realized that they were doing the right thing by moving us at no extra cost.

Room: Since I have never been to a hard rock, I had nothing to compare it too, but it wasnt bad. I liked the jacuzzi in the room. The bathrooms were a bit small but again, it served its purpose. Beds were HARD AS A ROCK!!! No pun intended.

Resort Credits: Was very disappointed that you couldnt use the credits in the gift shop or the hard rock shop. The only place you can use it with a 20% service fee were the higher end stores. At the hard rock in punta cana my parents were able to use in the stores for souvenirs.

Spa: We used some of the resort credits toward the spa. I thought the service and employees were excellent. The only thing that bothered me a little bit was the banging of the construction right below the spa as you were trying to relax. Overall was happy with this.

Bus into town: Took the bus into town right outside our hotel for a couple of bucks. Just a heads up..dont eat too much before going on the bus. The drivers stop and start like 40 times heading into town for shopping. They jam on their breaks constantly. Was very quizzy after each ride. but it beat paying $25 each way via taxi.

Pool/Bar: The pool and bar were excellent. Very clean. The bartenders were great. No complaints. Here at this resort, they dont hold back on the liquor!

Recreation: The recreation crew led by Alex, Danny Boy, Kiki, etc were fantastic! They got the crowd involved in beach activities, daily contests, etc. Very impressed.

Food: Last time I went to mexico I came back sick, lost 9 lbs, etc. I was advised by my doctor this time to get two vaccines, and stay away from raw veggies and fruit. I did that and was fine on the trip. Also a swig of pepto bismal cuts your chances of getting sick by bad food handling by 50%. My only food complaint was at the Zen for hibachi where the cook used the same knife to cut the raw meat that he used afterwards on the cooked stuff. My father started not feeling well that night and came home sick on the plane with chills, throwing up and a fever. It subsided a few days later, but was told by the doctor, that it could have been from food, airborne, or shaking someones hand.

The food options to choose from were good... Rodizio, Zen for Thai, and Hibachi, the Market Buffet, Outside lunch places (good ribs and chicken and pizza), mexico which we didnt go to, and Italian which left much to be desired... was not good. I ordered Lasagna and the boxed ones taste better. My mom ordered meatballs and she said she wouldnt have given them to my dog. We didnt return to Italian. The rodizio place was very good.

The cleaning/maintenance staff: I cant say anything bad about them. They work their butt off! Tip them when you can.

Weather: The weather was awful but we made the best of it. Never go during the start of hurricane season.

Shows: From what I say, they were very good!

Overall, it was a nice place to stay for the price, but I think I would go back to the Riveria Maya side.

Thank you to Eduardo and Black Angel and Sandy for helping our experience and stay to exceed our expectations! We travel all over the world and we had a group if about 350 people at the resort for the week with vip mixers and dinner parties. Greeted with live music when people arrived and the service was outstanding. The food was excellent the staff was always there to serve and so friendly. The pool and beach so awesome and the activities with the BBQ on the beach, volleyball, and the foam party was do cool. As we ended our trip we left with a live hardrock band playing outside!
We will be back and we recommend this place to everyone! Thank you again!

The friendliness and continuous drive to make our stay as pleasant as possible was the best we have ever experienced. The only drawbacks were the cloudiness of the pool, making it look dirty and the uncomfortableness of the beds. I would go back time and time again, hoping that they get more comfortable beds.
