“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed April 21, 2007

Our week's stay was wonderful. In all of my travels I have never been treated so graciously. The entire staff from front desk to housekeeping were extremely friendly. The beach was wonderful. While there were no palapas the staff will provide an umbrella that worked just fine. The water was the bluest I have ever seen. I had caught a large grouper on a fishing trip and asked the restaurant to prepare it. They cheerfully did it and the presentation was absolutely fantastic.
Though we don't normally stay at a hotel twice this one I would.

  • Liked — adults only. No kids allowed
  • Disliked — no palapas on beach though umbrellas were provide.

I used trip advisor alot before my vacation so I hope this helps. Sun Palace was amazing. When you first arrive you are greeted by the friendly staff along with a glass of champange. My husband and I stayed for a week (honeymooners) we were catered to by the entire staff. Our room was very warm when we first arrived we called the front desk to have somone look at or AC and within 3 minutes we had a staff member up there fixing the problem. We also had a bad safe that locked up on us and again they were on top of it. The hotel is very very clean it was amazing how well they keep up. I cant say enough about the staff it was always their pleasure to make sure your stay was top notch. The rooms are beautiful we had an ocean view on the second floor overlooking the infinity pool the view was breathtaking. Room service is 24 hrs which is great on those late nights. I would highly recommend a massage my husband had one for the first time and could not stop talking about it. For being all inclusive the food was good and the drinks were very strong (they know how to drink in Mexico). I do not have one negative thing to say about The Sun Palace. We are already planning our trip for next year.

We stayed at Sun Palace the first week of April. The hotel rooms are very nice and updated. All rooms have an ocean view. The beach is nice and they will bring you an umbrella if you request it. The pools are smaller than I've experienced at other hotels.
The food is pretty good, however there are only 2 restaurants at the hotel. We were really hoping for more options for dinner than what were available. We ventured to Cancun Palace for dinner one night and had a nice dinner at the Asian Restaurant.

The service staff is excellent and very friendly- they are really eager to please and so we brought additional tip money to show our appreciation.

We were originally booked in the Le Blanc Spa Resort for our 20 year Anniversary celebration; however we were bumped, they offered to book us in the Sun Palace and comp us three nights of our stay for this. We are so happy that we were at the Sun Palace; it is a smaller Palace resort yet the atmospher was just as romantic - the room was great; we were put in a Jacuzzie room over looking the beah and large infinity poo. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There were only three restaraunts open but understandable since they were still working on the remodeling after the hurricane; the place was clean and in order.

There is one large infinity pool where everyone would gather and enjoy drinks from the bar and snack from the snack bar; usually brought to you buy one of the staff members.

There was nightly entertainment which was usually great to watch although would always seem to be proceeded by some crazy announcement on the part of the entertainment staff members (dressed up as clowns; batman etc) They did have a group come over on Saturday night and perform the fire dance; that was pretty awesome to watch. There was usually some type of dancing or music band in the lobby lounge.

We took one tour to the Isla Mujeres (Island of Woman) We sat on the beach and just enjoyed the view of the Cancun coast line. It was to busy and whirlwind to sign up for one of the many other events; swimming with the dolphins; snorkling; or island tour. The sea was to choppie to sit on a boat for any length of time; evident in the group that went scuba diving all came back sick to their stomachs.

We highly recommend the Italian restaraunt where the food was excellant and the service top notch. We must say that the food in the Mexican and Steak restaraunts was just as good.

We ordered room service for the first two mornings we were there; very nice. They deliver your food in a warmer and set the table up for you. So your food is hot when you eat it; not cold like most places.

Getting around from the resort was quite easy going by Taxi; just always confirm the price before you get in the taxi. We prefered this mode of transportation rather than the bus; there were times it was packed and not always the best type of vehicle.

We would go back in a heart beat. Clean beach; clean rooms; courtious staff. Definite return trip in our future.

Stayed at Sun Palace April 2-5. Since I used tripadvisor so much to help make this hotel selection I felt obligated to write a review to help others.

My wife and I (low 30s) were looking for a couple of days to relax and unwind. Sun Palace is perfect if you don't want to to see kids or sping breakers and you want an all -inclusive resort with a nice pool & beach.

- Beach was amazing (much better than Cancun Palace or Moon Palace)
- Great beach to walk up and down after stuffing yourself
- Service was great and very friendly
- Food was very good not great (breakfast buffet is very good)
- Served small lunch buffet by pool which was very good
- Pools were very nice but small (clean & good temp)
- Great views from pool of beach / ocean
- People staying at resort were laid back
- Quiet and relaxing atmosphere
- Staff did not seem to be looking for tips all the time
- Always could find a good lounge chair by the pool / beach
- Jacuzzi was huge and wonderful
- Beds were nice and had good size flat screen TV
- Huge showers
- Room & hotel decor was elegant and modern
- No late check but provided hospitality room
- Ability to visit other Palace Resorts (highly recommend)
- Wireless internet (free = good , down one day = bad)

- Room service was good but very limited selection
- Only 3 restaurants open
- Small grounds
- Balconies could be bigger
- Exterior setting nice not fabulous
- No "wow" factor to the facilities but everything extemely nice
- No free shuttle to other Palace resorts
- Construction next door is not easy on the eyes
- Nothing exciting at all at night (more bars needed)

Visited the Cancun Palace one afternoon / night and ate at the Japenese restaurant which was very entertaining and very good. Very cool lobby bar that was happening at night and we had fun there. Went to Margaritaville afterwards which was also fun but was more Girls Gone Wild than Jimmy Buffet. Cancun Palace is by more of the action downtown (bars, etc) and seems to cater to families with teenagers / young (20s) crowd from what we could tell. Much bigger than Sun Palace and very nice as well but not what we were looking for.

Visited the Moon Palace one afternoon / evening and ate at one of the many many buffets at the resort which was good (nothing great) and had sushi at the poolside restaurant at night (do not recommend unless you like all rice in your sushi). The grounds of the Moon Palace resort are amazing (beautiful) with endless pools and places to eat / drink. It also was complete chaos with kids, teenagers and mass amounts of people everywhere. Many of the restaurants had lines at night but the options looked good and were plentiful. Many stages were set up for activities planned at night. The resort is about 15 minutues away and costs $20 by cab - nothing else is around it so all the action is on site. It reminds me of one of the Vegas resorts. I would try it someday with the entire family but never for a romantic get a way.

I agree with 4 star rating of most sites but easily could be a 5 star if they improved the food and stepped everything up a notch. Overall I highly recommend the Sun Palace and would stay there again. We had a great stay and great vacation.

Just returned April 1st from seven days in Paradise. The Sun Palace has undergone extrensive renovations. We had last stayed there in 2005 pre-Wilma. Did not notice much of a difference in the size of the beach, still a beautiful beach area.
Also, wherever you are in the hotel - lobby, restaurants, lounge, you have a view of the Caribbean!

Three restaurants open, Italian, Mexican and the Steakhouse - which we thought was very good! Breakfast and lunch were both amazing, with many, many choices each day (fish, tacos, steak, cutting station), with a staff willing to cook you just about anything!
Our room was very nice, hot tub and an ocean view, and the most comfortable bed! Entertainment each night was fun, the Caribbean dancers and the Fire Show were my favorites.

The most magical thing about Sun Palace is the staff - cannot do enough for you, you truly feel like Royalty staying at the Palace!!

Only negative, which can only be blamed on Mother Nature and time of year- we really could not swim in the beautiful turqoise water - too rough!! We witnessed one rescue and heard of quite a few others while we were there. Last year we were at the Iberostar in Riveria Maya - water seemed calmer there.

All in all, we had a wonderful time at the Sun Palace!

We stayed at the Sun March 31 - April 3 after a week at the Moon Palace. We have been avid Moon Palace vacationers for 7 years, but this year, after dealing with the spring break kids, the early risings to get lounge chairs in the shade, the long lines at the restaurants, the over-cooked food, the inconsistent maid service in the rooms, we were beside ourselves when we got to the Sun Palace. Yes, we are in our 50's and we were looking for a restful, beautiful, service-oriented place where we didn't have to get up at 5 am to get a good lounge chair and where we could get served hot food by a professional staff. We luxuriated ourselves at the Sun - it was absolutely outstanding to the point where we could kick ourselves for putting up with the ++++ we put up with at the Moon. The Moon has amazingly gorgeous grounds - so peaceful and beautiful to look at. But at the Sun we were pampered by the outstanding service of everyone we ran into. Another example of the difference between the two: Pedicure at the Moon is in a cramped, warm, small room and it was a quick 1/2 hour standard pedicure. At the Sun, we were in a new, spacious room with huge, comfy chairs. We were offered tea, coffee, and cookies, we had herbal warm neck wraps put on our necks, we had aromatherapy deep breathing offered as well as a brief scalp, neck, and shoulder rub - all before even starting on the feet. It was by far the best pedicure I have ever experienced with lots of calf, foot, and toe massaging going on. And the precision of the actual pedicure itself was awesome.

As far as we could tell, the hotel is laid out such that all rooms face the ocean. It is in a W type of formation - the doors to the rooms run along the lagoon side of the hotel so when you walk into the room, your windows are facing the ocean. Some face more directly than others. Some rooms are larger than others we found out. Some rooms have smaller balconies than others - the rooms on the 7th and 8th floors have tiny balconies. But for now, all balconies only have two little chairs on them. Perhaps they would bring up lounge chairs because there is plenty of room.

Dining at night - no buffets. And there are mostly ocean views while you dine except for the inner part of the dining rooms. In fact, there was so much ocean view that at breakfast we would look out the windows and feel like we were on a cruise.

The Sun is not for everyone because we are all looking for a different experience when we go on vacation, but if you are looking for something extremely restful, you cannot beat the Sun. Write to me if you want to know more.
