“Excellent vacation! Awesome hotel”
Reviewed September 7, 2004

My husband and I were in Cancun from 08/27/04 to 09/02/04 and we had the best time. The hotel is awesome and our room was beautiful. It had an ocean view, the air condition was working well..at times it would get too cold, the bed was definitely heavenly and I loved the showers :) There is only one complaint I have about the hotel and it is the slow service. There were not enough waiters and sometimes it would take a little while to get waited on. The waiters are super nice and it was not their fault. I think management should hire enough people so they can provide better service. They were running around trying to do things faster and with the heat I really felt bad for them. On the other hand when you are on vacation there is no rush for anything so we decided to just relax, enjoy and NOT COMPLAIN!

Cancun is a beautiful place, we have been there about 4 times and I have to say that the end of August is the best time to go. The temperature is still hot but not desperately hot as in July. There is not that many people because everyone has gone back to school so it is not as crazy as in June and July.

We did an all inclusive and it was great because the food and drinks can get very expensive.

This hotel is very close to the airport and about 30 minutes away from downtown if you take the bus. Taxis are not too expensive but I would recommend the bus, they are very inexpensive and very safe.

A restaurant that I recommend is PERICOS. This place is really good and the entertainment is awesome. It is certainly a good time!! This restaurant is located downtown. Make sure you call in advance to make reservations. Also ask them if it is possible to seat close to the where the musicians are :)

As far as tours they are all very good!! On this trip we went snorkeling to Islas Mujeres and it was a good time. I have done most of the tours and they are all very good. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Sometimes I think people are too picky and complicated. Cancun is one of the most beautiful places that I have been to and yes it can be expensive...not if you do all inclusive. It can be crowded...pick the right times to go. The time share people can be a pain...just ignore them or tell them point blank I AM NOT INTERESTED..make up a lie tell them that the vacation was a gift and that you have no money! Souvenirs are expensive... bargain, never take the first price they offer. There is always a solution to your problems you just have to have a good attitude and enjoy life!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Westin Resort. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The beach was immaculate with white sand and clean water. The pools were great and the lounge chairs very comfortable. We had a great time and will return to Cancun for the wonderful beach.

The food was mediocre at best and was very expensive. For better (and less expensive) meals, we recommend taking a bus into town.

We stayed at the Westin Cancun for our honeymoon, from 8/23 to 8/29. Although we were not impressed with Cancun itself (feeling that it was a giant tourist trap), the hotel was excellent. On our arrival we found we'd been upgraded from an oceanfront room to an oceanfront with a terrace. We were able to walk straight from our room to the beach and into the ocean. It was paradise. The room was decorated in shades of blue and white, and had a beautiful tiled floor. The bed was out of this world, as was expected of the "Westin Heavenly Bed!" The air conditioner was great, keeping the room icy at times, and the housekeeping staff was very good.

We only had one complaint about the property. This was that although the shower had the signature dual shower head design, it was separate from the bathtub. As a result, there was very little room between the shower heads and the opposite wall. This significantly decreased the enjoyment factor of the "Heavenly Shower," making it feel very cramped. The bathroom was also somewhat old, and showed its age.

The pools and grounds were beautiful and very well maintained, and the food was good, if not outstanding.

We will stay here again if we return to Cancun.

Just came back from Cancun 8/26-9/01. Second time around and what a big mistake. Cancun is overrated and too expensive. You are nothing but a $$$$ sign to the locals whether at the hotel or on the streets. The clubs downtown are all in one area, very pricey, and crowded with teenagers. After two days, you want to get far away from downtown as possible and that is where the problem begins. There is nothing else to do but to go see the pyramids.
As for the hotel, the view is beautiful. Bring a lot of singles w/u. Hotel is not helpful in providing changes in dollars. They will lie to you and say that they do not have any, even when they do. Watch out for Lorenzo at the car rental (Buster). He will try to change the rate if you are paying in pesos. If he gives you one price, haggle with him or go to the other company in the hotel. Hotel is very expensive when it comes to eating in. Provide ample time to go way downtown for food. Go to a different island for vacation. Cancun is not worth it. Way too commercialize unless you want Mc. Donalds, Blimpie, Burger King, Tony Roma for choices of restaurants.

Good Luck

This is a beautiful hotel on a beautiful beach. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and the rooms were perfect. We spent three nights in the "pink tower". When you stay there, you get a complimentary breakfast (very good) and happy hour (just ok, but its free). We stayed in the governor's suite (not sure why because we didn't plan on such a huge suite and didn't pay any extra for it). We also stayed in the main hotel for one night. That room was similarly clean and pretty. Of course it was smaller, but it was also a lot cheaper. We spent most of our time under a palapa on the private beach. The pools are great, the lounge chairs are comfy - can't imagine how it could have been better. The food is only mediocre - not bad, but not at all interesting. Venture into the heart of Cancun for some better Mexican (but be aware that its a looonng bus ride with incredibly annoying drunk Americans). This is the place to go to just relax - its not real Mexico, but it is nice!

I will take a two-pronged approach to this review.

First off, Don't go to Cancun. I can make no argument that the resorts and beaches in Cancun are beautiful; however, once you leave the your resort's compound, the prevailing attitude toward tourists is not pleasant. Cancun is so commercial and we are just walking $$$-signs to merchants. Plus, the city is nothing to get excited about...pretty ugly, actually. I spent two days in Cancun and I was counting the minutes to leave. I can't believe this place is such a popular destination. Ironically, upon my return home, when I encountered people who had visited Cancun is the past agreed with my sentiments and said they would never return. There are soo many other great places...

Now...the Westin. This hotel rather isolated. They have two restaurants and eating becomes very expensive because you have no other option but to eat there. $20 a pop to eat their buffets. You are kinda stuck because their is nothing else around and a taxi ride to town costs over $10. They gouge you....$3-4 for a bottle of water. LOL...staying hydrated in Mexico is spendy. Watch out for the RUDE gift shop girl. God Forbid you need to have a late check out....it will cost you $10 per hour. Although you are able to get a pretty good roomrate off the internet to stay here, this resort will nickel and dime you to death. The rooms are nice, good airconditioning, comfortable beds. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

I'm recently back from the Westin Regina, Cancun and....Wow!!! It is minutes from the airport (make sure that you bring lots of single American dollars as you have to tip EVERYONE!) and is breathtaking. The water is literally turquoise and clear for miles, the sand white and powdery and the weather usually fantastic; very hot but mostly with a nice breeze. The buses are fabulous: they are regular, fast (the drivers are maniacs!) and only cost around 30p (Uk currency...much less than one dollar) to travel anywhere in Cancun. The staff at the Westin are helpful, the rooms comfortable and perfect, the facilities breathtaking (especially the 5 pools, beaches, outdoor restaurant and jacuzzis by the lagoon!) and it is immaculately clean.

The food is delicious and there is a large variety to choose from including Italian, Mexican, Western...everything! The shopping areas are located nearby and the party zone is easily accessed and is near also but the clubbers and noise don't affect the westin as it is quite private.

I would recommend the Westin Regina to families of all ages, couples (it is a very romantic setting!) of all ages, groups of friends, and even single people. There is a coral reef for snorkelling less than five minutes walk along the beach which really is worth a look and the water is hot so it is a must-sample!

The Westin Regina Cancun offers something for everyone and pure luxury at a reasonable price. I'd highly recommend it! Have a lovely, relaxing trip!
