“Swimming with Crocodile”

I chose this hotel because of the pools. This is an older property which is in much need of updating.The pools need resurfacing.Hotel could use some additional cleaning.Room was adequate,a little disappointing.Staff was amazining,food awesome. My second morning I went out for a swim in the ocean,I encountered a crocodile while swimming,about 50 meters from me.Extremely frightening experience...More disturbing was the hotels response to my encounter! Not well received,did not want me to alarm the other guests,offered no explanation except the red flag was posted for swimming.This was not my first beach vacation and I am familiar with flag postings,unaware this included crocodiles........ Unreasonable....... :(

Dear guest,

We feel very concerned about the experience that you went through during your past vacation in the our beautiful resort in the Mexican Caribbean.
Please understand that this situation was out of the hotel control. This case was a very rare since it has not happen in this area since the hotel was built. The normal habitat for these animals, are isolated areas that are secluded like freshwater swamps and marshes.
Crocodiles are protected in many parts of the world. The Mexican crocodile specie (Morelet’s) is considered an endangered species, and there are important Federal Law procedures that we needed to follow; due to this reason, we informed to our Federal authorities in order to rescue the reptile so they acted accordingly.
Our management’s first and upmost priority was to keep our guest safety as well to avoid any danger and do not produce anguish or bad moment. We feel glad that everything came out well and that our valued guests keep enjoying and relaxing during their time with us, as it should.
We offer our sincere apologizes if our staff did not explain properly what was happening but we do not understand yet how this could have happened.
We take this opportunity to thank you for your kind comments about our staff service driven attitude that recognize our usual hospitality and our cuisine, with its intense and variety of flavors, spices and colorful decoration.

I was upgraded free to a room on the ground floor that had glass doors that opened directly to the pool and beach!!! The people are very nice. The room service menu is limited but fast delivery. Resorts are not really my style but this place was nice.

Room Tip: try to get a room that opens to the pool and beach.

The Concierge and Staff seemed very friendly the first two days of the stay and would call to check up on us and offer help but then they started offering timeshare. They didn't call it a timeshare and invited you to visit their Westin Lagunamar for a "fun" day but then made you visit timeshare oppurtunities and kept bothering you over and over again for it. We nicely declined as we weren't interested the first time. And the second time they asked. and the third, fourth and fifth and so on. We were disturbed by their advertising and as soon as we declined the timeshare, the concierge never offered us breakfast coupons, asked us how we were, or had any type of communication with us for the rest of our long stay. Also the room had foul odors, staff were not friendly, food was average and same everyday, and service was very slow. WARNING: Do not use the ATM next to the hotel, it will charge extra hidden fees, not give your money until you call a staff to help you, and is just completely messed up. The only good thing was the beach was very nice. I definitely do not recommend this hotel and will not stay here again. I expected more from Westin but apprently not.

I just returned from a one week stay at the Westin Spa in Cancun, our room was on the first floor of the Royal Beach Club. Everything was a positive experience, staff was friendly and made us feel at home, food was good, location of our room was perfect for us, i especially enjoyed happy hour at the beach club lounge.
The pool is perfect for anyone wanting to relax, enjoy the weather and get sun. Only a few children in the pool area. Overall Just quiet, down time.

The Staff was great, Room was very nice for the price, right on the Beach! Beverage price are moderate. Breakfast was a little expensive... but there are many other options around the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for beach level rooms ...

We've stayed here before, and had enjoyed it in the past but Westin has really let this hotel go down hill. The service is slow, the food is not great and everything is run down. As an example, we tried to play tennis and having forgotten our tennis balls we asked to buy some. We found that you could not buy them but you could 'rent' them. Fine, unfortunately the tennis balls were old, with no bounce. When we complained (nicely as always) we were told they were fine. I'm not sure the person that said they were fine had ever played tennis but they were definitely dead -- very hard to play tennis with them.

We will look for somewhere else to stay next time unless Westin fixes this broken hotel.

This hotel has very bad administration manage, the servise and attention hotels staff offer is remarcable but generally the hotel isnt good, besides the buffet its always the same food, and the hotel doesnt have free wireless.
