When our car came to the guard gate the guard said happy anniversary. they upgraded us to an oceanfront room and then to a oceanfront suite, because we have stayed at so many Ritz. Met chef at Club Grille at managers reception and told him we were celebrating anniversary----they had flower petals on table; special dessert and appetizer ----singer came over to sing a song to us. the food at club grille was absolutely fantastic. Other restaurants were good, too. Service perfect. Hotel looks like new. We didnt even want to leave hotel to see Cancun. wish we had stayed longer. will go back.

My husband & I recently stayed at the Ritz Carlton Cancun and it was delightful.

The property is beautiful, the rooms (we had a suite) are elegant and comfortable.

The staff is outstanding and were always eager to please in every way. They can't do enough for you.

The pools and the beach are lovely and there are plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. The staff at the pools and beach are also excellent.

We actually never left the hotel - we had no reason to go elsewhere!! We ate all our meals at the hotel and they were superb. The breakfast buffet is excellent - more than enough choices. One night we ate at the Club Grille and it was fabulous.
The other nights we ate in the main restaurant and there were always plenty to choose from on the menu. That restaurant has different theme dinners and we enjoyed the Mexican Buffet one night and the Seafood Buffet another night. The Mexcian Buffet was fun - with live music and great food and the Seafood Buffet was absolutely unbelievable.

It was a perfect place to chill out, do nothing and enjoy the hospitality of the Mexcian people. Again, I emphasize the excellent staff and the great service.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

I compared many hotels in the area (JW Marriot, Fiesta Amerciana Aqua and Coral Beach, BLANC, among others) and the Ritz Carlton is the place to stay in Cancun! The staff was amazingly nice with a "my pleasure" attitude. I felt so humbled by how nice everyone was and what they wanted to do for me. The room was very nice, I could see and hear the tourquoise colored ocean from our bed. The hotel was impeccably clean, and the houskeepers were very proper. I just loved the hotel decor, all the elegant chandeliers and oil paintings, grand staircase and beautiful hotel lobby bar, I didn't want to leave. We had the Thanksgiving Buffet on Thursday night and it was wonderful with all the traditional selections. The food was a little expensive (more expensive than resorts in Cabo San Lucas) but worth it. The hotel Concierge was so nice and made dinner reservations and other arrangements for us every day. Use of the gym (including the spa area) was free! Which I couldn't belive as at other resorts i'm charged a fee to work out! I would stay at this hotel again over any other in Cancun! It is truly the best hotel in Cancun, if you like 5 star quality.

  • Liked — The Hotel Staff and Decor
  • Disliked — The hot tub could have been warmer
  • Tips/Secrets — order a bottle of wine from the bar and you can take it up to your room. The mini bar bottle of wine was too expensive.

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Ritz-Carlton from Nov. 15-20. This hotel is fanstastic. We stayed on the club level in an executive suite. The room was great, although there were no chairs on any of the three balconies. The view was amazing though. I could watch the ocean while laying in bed! The club level service is fantastic. We arrived and had a welcome from seven staff members with a glass of champagne. The food on the club level is also good-hot and cold breakfast items, good appetizers and drinks at night and an amazing selection of chocolates at night. We ate lunch by the pool and the food was also very good. Make sure you try the cucumber soup. It is so good we ate it every day. We also ate at the Casitas one night. It was very romantic and the view was incredible. They light up the ocean at night with spotlights so you can see it. The pool area was never crowded and the beach was very nice. Service at the pool was also very good-towels and food/drinks. I had a massage at the spa, which was excellent. Ask for Alexandra. The spa area has an outdoor cold and hot whirlpool which I enjoyed before the massage.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Although the hotel was full the entire time we were there between a convention and Thanksgiving week, we never felt crowded and the service was always fantastic. We were at the Four Seasons in Maui at the same time last year and the overcrowding was horrible. The service was also lacking as the hotel became fully occupied. This did NOT occur at all at the Ritz. They will make your stay memorable.

The facility is at 90% after the hurricane, but still beats any other in Cancun. Why only 90%? 1 of the 2 fine dining restaurants (Fantino) was not yet open. It is due to re-open mid-December. Minor hotel exterior paint touch up is in process.

The Ritz was closed for 11 months, but had 95% of the staff return. How did they get by with no jobs? The Ritz offered them clean up and restoration jobs on-site, or offered tranfers to other Ritz properties. if they could not do either, the Ritz paid them anyway! I personally thanked Mr. Luis Franco, the Hotel's GM, for this as the Staff could not be more happy proud to be back.

We walked through the La Meridien and JW Marriot since both received great reviews, and they were nice, but not at par to the Ritz. The Ritz has marble everywhere, classically decorated, squeaky clean, wider beach, closer to chic shopping, with many more rooms facing directly to the sea. The Meridean and JW sit sideways to the beach, whereas the Ritz sits broadside. Your chances of spectacular views are much higher at the Ritz.

Only downside to mention is that in Mexico, mattress size terminology is not the same as in the U.S.. What they call a King, is really our Queen. A Full is closer to a Single ect. In the Suites, the couch does not fold out into a bed, so we had to have a rollaway taking up space the entire stay. The Ritz offset our dissapointment by providing the rollaway at no charge.

The size of our Ocean front Suite exceeded expectations. It had 2 TV's so our 7 year old could watch cartoons in the living room, while we kept an eye on CNN in the bedroom. No CD player though. Large shower with separate tub. Safe in closet, 2nd bathroom, extra wide balcony, fresh flowers, toiletries, top notch.

I apologize to the Ritz Cancun for the following...a tip that saved us $300/day (if you include alcohol and tobacco products). Do not touch any of the in-room goodies (snacks, alcohol), buy from the lobby store, or poolside. We asked to have items removed from the tiny fridge so we could stock it ourselves. 100 steps from the front door is a small convenience store that sells all the same items for 80% less! Walk 10 minutes to the chic mall, and stock up on top shelf liquors, and cigars. We had a back pack with a small cooler at the bottom to discreetly tote items back from stores, and from our Suite to pool/beach. We used the $300/ day savings to offset the ocean front Suite upgrade.

Kid tip: we had our son do the 1/2 day kids camp early on so he could meet new friends. From then on, he always had familiar playmates at the pool and beach that he met at camp!

The food was much better than expected. Our most memorable experience, and best food was had at "Casitas". A casita is the square beach hut used for shade by day, but is transformed into colorful private dining room by night. They use a mosquito net to block any wind, to deaden sound, and create a sense of privacy. We could not hear any sound from the neighboring Casitas, and only forms were discernable even though they were only 10 feet apart. Order the seafood sampler appetizer for 2. Casitas is a "must do" in our opinion.

Food tip: avoid carbs, skip the bread, drink lots of water. You wont get that bloated overfull feeling. All Ritz water is okay.

Room selection tip: South end of building is adult pool. North end is where kids are. If you stay at South end, and go to the South adult pool, you will have peace and quiet. Only downside of South end is that the only heated jucuzzi is at the North end. Since the hotel is so wide, if you dont get this part right, be prepared for a lot of walking.

Last tip: If your not up for shopping for provisions as we did, pay for the upgrade to the "club level". The upgrade cost will be offset by the food/drink savings.

I hope you will have as wonderful a time as we did. Asta la vista!

We were waiting for the resort to reopen its doors, and when we finally made it back we were anxious to see what happened.
Since it was closed for almost a year we did not know what we would find.
We are happy to report that it just as great as before, even improved in some areas. They added a cooking school for hotel guests, a great fun activity to do, and Rory the chef there is fun and entertaining.
They also added two new dining options for dinner, although our favorite restaurant Fantino was still closed, apparently it will reopen in december.
The food and service were perfect, and the seafood buffet was the highlight of our stay, we can not wait to get back and already planning to spend our easter vacation there.

There are not enough superlatives to explain how wonderful our stay was at the Ritz Cancun. Like previous reviewers, we stayed at the hotel right after it reopened--Oct. 12 -15.

My husband and I had stayed a two decent business hotels right before coming to the Ritz. But affter dragging 10 days worth of clothes and our golf clubs around for almost a week, we were a bit travel weary. The Ritz arranged travel from the airport for us and immediately all our travel woes were gone! The bellmen and front desk staff greeted us by name upon arrival and would not even so much as let us carry our "carry-on" luggage up to the room without assistance.

The room was pristine, new paint, carpet, coffee/capuccino maker, and linens. Waiting for us was a delicious try of pastries and a huge chocloate treat (stamped with a Mayan imprint) .

We ate all meals at the hotel. There were a a number of healtier options that my husband appreciated. The lettuce wraps at the beach bar were amazing! Dining staff remembered us, our names, and our preferences from day to day. After drinking some excellent Mexican wine (Casa Madero) suggested by our waiter for a few nights, our servers presented us with a bottle to take home on our last night because the liquor stores had already closed and would not be open the following day before we left--we were shocked and so grateful.

Treadmills in the health club probably didn't even have 10 miles on them, all equipment was brand new. The spa was spectacluar! We indulged with a couples massage after sunset on the first night, which really set the tone for the weekend.

The Ritz arranged for us to golf at the Moon Palace for $250 per person--pricey, but it included transportation to and from the resort, all snacks and waters during our game (we drank a tone of water because it was really hot!) and a delicious buffet after we played.

You should stay at the Ritz Cancun because it's fabulous--but there is a more humanitarian reason to stay there as well. The island was devastated by Hurricane Wilma a year ago. Many of the hotels are still not open and the economy could really use a boost from an influx of tourist dollars right now. If you're considering going to a warm-weather destination, why not choose Cancun? I don't think you'll be disappointed!

  • Liked — Level of service provided by the staff, beachfront location
  • Disliked — We loved everything!
  • Tips/Secrets — Check Ritz website for bed and breakfast specials--they are usually a good deal based on the price of breakfast at the hotel.
