I'm surprised by the overwhelming amount of positive reviews for this hotel. Although I don't think it is a bad hotel, I would not recommend it (based on your travel objectives). Here's why:

If you plan to go the beach everyday, this hotel is poorly located. Just to get into the beach area will cost you at least $10usd taxi ride. To get to the better beaches (ex. Playa Delphinu), it costs $14 usd. Of course, you can take the bus ($1usd), but it will take about an hour to get there.

The rooms are barren. Not even a telephone. Although the rooms have been modernized, there is a sterile, lifeless feel to it.

What I did like was that it was close to Mercado 28 and lots of restaurants. Also 10 minutes walk from Cancun bus terminal (long distance bus, airport bus). The hotel offers an airport shuttle for $25usd.

In the end, if you want to save money, this is a good choice as it is reasonably priced. Especially if you plan to visit different parts of mexico and cancun. But if your only plan is to lounge at the beach everyday, another hotel may be a good choice.

As others have posted, this is a great deal for the money. This is not a fancy hotel, but it is very clean and safe, and has excellent staff.

We stayed here twice in our 2 weeks of traveling around the Yucatan, one night stays because of late night arrivals, then left early the next mornings. We chose Suites Gaby because we had a rental car and it had free, secured, valet parking.

The rooms are quite spartan, but clean and comfortable. There's a big flat screen TV with cable. The beds were comfortable, with good quality bedding. The air conditioner worked well.

The front desk is 24 hours and they were friendly and helpful, even with a 6am checkout. When we left the first time to go to Isla Mujeres, we asked the front desk clerk how much to pay for a cab to the ferry, and she told us no more than 35 pesos. The cab wanted 5USD, but when we told him we were told 35 pesos, he grinned and said OK. Can't blame him for trying!

It is exactly as advertised, and if you're looking for a clean and safe place for a short stay, you can't do better.

Our flight was arriving late in Cancun and we needed an overnight hotel before moving on the next day. Suites Gaby was an excellent choice and offered a lot for a very reasonable price, including a flat screen TV, aircon, great shower and better toileteries than I've seen in some very expensive hotels. It was in a convenient and safe downtown location - just a short taxi ride to the bus station and ferry and across the street from Mercado 28 where you can get a terrific Mexican breakfast - fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, eggs, beans, tortillas, toast, jam - for very little money. Best of all, they sent the hotel van to the airport to pick us up for no extra charge and taxis or even shuttles can be quite expensive in Cancun. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

- Nice and modern rooms
- Clean and modern bathrooms
- Very nice staff at the front desk
- Very cheap for the room quality
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The only minus for some sun seeking travellers might be the location downtown. But there are many busses to the beach (which is full of hotels and the beauty of this area is also discussible). It's close to some restaurants, wallmart, starbucks and other stores.
