Make sure you get a safe in your room. If there is a safe, you must pay $2/day for the lock. Get an extra key card, because they only give you one and you need to use it for the power for your room in a slot when you enter. You must wear a wrist band to show that you are part of the hotel. We are scuba divers and already had our week planned out before we got there. Whenever we were in the lobby we were asked what we were doing that day and who with, because they wanted to sell us their own excursions. Quite annoying. The shuttle service to and from the airport was nice, but once you got to the hotel you were expected to meet with a travel agent type person to plan out activites. After traveling most of the night from NY, we wanted the beach and a drink, not a meeting. They were annoyed that we wanted to get outside and relax. One convienience is the little store in the lobby that sells snacks and beverages and also changes money. Just make sure they don't short change you when exchanging. We would have been short changed every time if my boyfriend was not paying attention.

The men at the front desk are not overy friendly. The one during the day is particularly grumpy. You must ask for an iron. Make sure there is a remote and blow dryer in the room. No alarm clock. Hot water was luke warm at best.

One highlight is the beach is small but nice, and after noon time there is a tall man with white sunglasses who sells fresh seafood on the beach. He brings it right to your blankets, it is fantastic. For a great dinner at a low price, go to Tacos Caminero at Blvd. Kukulcan Km. 9.5 Plaza Dady ' O Zona Hotelera. We dove with Manta Divers and they were great.

I booked this Hotel because the pictures somewhat looked way better than what it really is. We got a cheap rate in comparison to some of the big Resorts, I was looking for a small Hotel with more of the Mexican flare and this seemed to fit the profile.

Pros: Is cheap, Isla Mujeres Ferry is next door so no need to take a taxi if you want to go to the island, bus stop is almost up front, Oxxo (grocery store) is next door too to buy a bottle of Tequila or a pizza after partying all night, the food at the Hotel was actually good, breakfast was awesome. Rooms were clean, the gardens looked nice and well trimmed.

Cons: The beach is way too small, looks deceiving in pictures, is full of big rocks, the Ferries are docked right there including the Pier up front on the beach and block the view of the Sea. Most people use the gardens to sun bath instead of the beach, the beach to the West is a public beach and is actually nice but is full of algae, the beach to the east is also a public beach but is quite small.
The Hotel runs out of beach towels either due to machine wash malfunction or not enough towels for all guests. One day our room ran out of toilet paper and after reporting it never brought one over until next day, we didn't have hot water one day and took them a couple of hours to fix it.
Some guests were complaining about missing jewelery (we didn't have that problem)
The booze at the hotel as part of the all inclusive is the lowest quality available (thus the need of Oxxo for a good Tequila)

Overall.- The People that we met during our stay (Feb 5th - Feb 12th 2010) made our trip priceless, the Hotel itself should be starless. (Currently 2 star Hotel).

If you are looking to save money and have a few inconveniences this Hotel is right for you, the good thing is that you can take the bus every morning and go to Marlin Beach only 10 min away, that's an AWESOME public beach.
If you are looking for an authentic Mexican Restaurant go to La Parrilla , is around downtown, we spent about 100.00 USD for 4 people, if you are looking for a an upscale Mexican Restaurant with the authentic Yucatan type of food go to La Habichuela, the service is 1st class and the food is excellent.

Cancun itself is way overpriced, overcrowded with Resorts, lacks the Mexican flare overall, some people said looks like Miami, some Taxi drivers are nice some are [--]....they charge you what ever they feel like at that moment, I hated to negotiate with them so we ended up taking the buses everywhere.

We went to Plaza Caracol (a Mall) and we paid 20.00 USD for 2 Hagen-Daz ice creams, that was ridiculous.

Had I known Marlin beach is a public beach and beautiful, we would have gone there every morning right after breakfast and spend most of the day there.

The worst part of the trip was shopping at Mercado 28 (market 28) the vendors are a complete pain in the a$$, if you see something you like they follow you for 10 -15 minutes bargaining with you, we saw a piece we liked and the starting price was 700 USD, 20 minutes later after we had said NO for a 1000 times he went down to 140.00 USD. At that point we were sick of it and we didn't buy it, had he started at 140.00 right away we would have bought it on the spot.

I hope this gives you an idea of Celuisma Dos Playas and Cancun.

I stayed here for 11 nights and enjoyed it very much. The hotel is a real value for money hotel. The room was excellent, cleaned every day. If treated well, staff is also very friendly and service-minded. The busstop in front of the hotel is excellent and makes it very easy to travel wherever you wish to go. The beach is cleaned every day manually. Although people line up for dinner at 19.00 it is unnessesary because whenever a bowl is empty, there are quick refills with fresh food. The chicken from the oven is lovely and there is enough variation and a salad bar. I read that some people complain about this hotel, but do not agree. If you expect the hilton, pay for it.
I would definately visit Dos Playas again if I ever get back in Cancun.

This is a small hotel and one of the oldest in Cancun so unexpected maintenance issues can arise. We ran out of hot water one day but it was promptly repaired the same day. Upon check-in, our room was too small and dark but we were given another room the next day without hesitation which was bright and roomier with a balcony. The staff is friendly and do their best to accommodate the guests. Rooms are clean and service is good.

The all inclusive buffet is more than acceptable and compareable to some of the higher priced hotels with sufficient variation evry day. Food is fresh. The dining room is a little small so there is the occasional lineup which moves quickly. There is a Thai served meal several times a week that requires reservations and the food is very good.

The beach is acceptable but not the best in area for long stretches of sand but very nice to stroll along the coast and good for swimming. The hotel is well located about 3km from the central hotel zone or about a 30 minute walk. It is a 10 minute bus ride from downtown Cancun (10km) at 7.5 pesos per person. The busses are efficient and run every few minutes with a stop at the front door.

The bartenders will give you most anything you want with a smile and as much as you want. Bring your own thermos mug and they will fill it with whatever you want which avoids the spills from plastic glasses on the beach.

We had no problems with items missing from the room but normal precautions are advised to keep valuables out of sight or leave them at home. Rooms are clean and serviced every day. The bed very comfortable and the hotel is quiet for sleeping.

This is not a five star hotel but is an excellent value for the price because 90% of the trip is just being there and enjoying what Cancun has to offer … sand, sun, shopping, and tequila.

I would return here in a flash. The money saved on accommodations can be used for whatever you want to do.

The staff at Dos Playas was friendly and inviting as well as accomodating. The rooms were comfortable, clean and maintained. The grounds were well-kept and beautiful.
The two pools were inviting and the beach areas nice too. The resort could use a few more lawn chairs around the pool, The food was adequate, and the drinks flowed freely. If you are looking for a place toi just unwind, chill, and be carefree it is a good place to
stay.
