“Great Place For The Price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2011

Got to say we had some reservations about Dos Playas after reading the reviews before we came. But there was no need to worry as the place was wonderful. We had a nice large room with a King size bed which had everything we could want. Can't fault it.
There are extensive gardens which give you alot of room to just stroll around the site. These lead to the beach which has wonderful soft white sand and some stunning views across the clear blue sea. I did take a stroll up the beach and have to say that the more upmarket hotels did not have gardens at all and looked a bit cramped.
The pool is by the bar and restaurant which is handy when you want to cool down with a nice Pina Colada or Margaritta. The staff were very nice and were very attentive. Though the reception staff did seem to be less friendly though would always try to help when asked.
There was a different theme to the food every night and the food was good. Especially liked the breakfast with choice of pancakes, waffles, etc.
There is a good bus service which runs 24 hours a day, where you can get downtown or up the Hotel Zone for about $2 a time.
I would recommend booking all excusions from the Wal-Mart downtown. Wonderful lady there who gave us a good discount and arranged our trips to Chichen itza, Xel-ha, Tulum and Coba. She even helped us to change our days when we got mixed up and booked a day when we should have been flying home. Would recommend Coba as it is the only pyramid where you are allowed to climb, but don't forget to take some walking shoes. Xel-ha is also great as you get a good day in the water and all you can eat drink included.
Got to say we had a great time. Can't fault Dos Playas. It has everything you could want, especially for the price you pay. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Ask for King size room on arrival

I went to cancun in april this year and it was the best holiday ever ! The rooms were standard but weren't too bothered about that really because I was only in it to sleep really. The food there is different everyday and I'm not a fussy eater so I enjoyed it. All inclusive food and beer all day, who's complaining ? There was some good people that we met at the hotel especially the hotel reps, karen fernando and winnie who I've not adopted as my brother ! Haha they took us out everynight and didn't get a break really because me and my mate went out all 14 nights and loved it deffo going back next year !

We stayed in this hotel for two weeks in July.
Room. Basic but ok for two weeks, towels changed every other day sometimes three days. The place reminded me of faulty towers hotel. Air con never worked and was hanging off the wall. Never any hot water in the room .

Food. Same repetative every day but was a bot of a variety. Better than other three star hotels I have stayed in. Staff in the restaurant good apart from the manager who wouldn't reserve us a table for the Thai restaurant.

Beach. Well the hotel is advertised as having their own beach. It's hardly a beach, just a few metres of sand with a few Kannada palm trees. The beach next to the Brel is actually a local beach where anyone can go on it. Be careful because some od our clothes and other peoples clothes got stolen. This wouldn't have happened if the security were doin their job properly. They were supposed to bepatrolling the hotel but they were constantly sitting at the hut atthefrontof the hotel and there was even locals in the hotel pool . The pool man fernando was great tho :)

One night While we were sleep in bed a strange man opens the door of our room with a hotel key . When we ask hom what he's doin he passed us beach towels and quickly left the room. By thewaythis was eleven at night and who just brings beach towels at that time of night just incase we want to go the beach ??? We went down to the reception to find out who this man was and the manager just said that only security and him were working at that time a d he didn't know who the mam was. This left us feeling unsafe as a strange man had a key to our room and If we weren't in that night I'm sure all of our belongings would have gone missing. We were annoyed that the manager was not interested in what had just happened and had no concern for our safety. In the time it took us to complain the mam must have come back in our room as we found the next day that the camera was gone from out room. We complained but yet again we got brushed off and they just told us go call the police. The managers words were " that's y u need to get a safe " Iwas really upset and disgusted at their attitude towards us. We found our the next day that the same thing had happened to another women . Luckily she woke up when become in her room. He was also claiming to just be giving her beach towels.

I would have recommended this hotel up until this happened . Most of the staff were good like the cleaners and bar staff but the managers and most of the reception were rude, arrogant and every time we spoke to them or needed help, it felt like we were just a pain to them and they could never be bothered helping us. I will never be staying here again but would really recommend cancun as it is the nicest place ever, just a shame about this hotel

After a flight delay, 10 and a half hour flight and baggage delay i was pleased to arrive at hotel. However, upon arrival- reception staff could barely speak English, and couldn't find our booking for a good 15 minutes. Once we had finally checked-in and been given our (one and only) room key, somebody was sent to help us with our bags. One man was sent to carry all five suitcases and handluggage bags to the furthest possible building, which took him about 15minutes at a real struggle. When we got into the room it was small, smelt of damp and very cramped. Our luggage wouldn't fit into the room due to the furnishings being so large and cramped together, the wardrobe door wouldn't open or close, one drawer was jammed, there were stains up the wall (from god knows what!) and the only view was that of a building site. After complaining to reception, they gave us an even worse room on the ground floor, we then said we still weren't happy and they gave us back the original room telling us we would have to try again in the morning for a new room. After going down for a bland yet rather enjoyable meal, we returned to the room, only to find our key had been deactivated! Using a friends phone, we rang reception; but due to being in the middle of a tropical rain storm, nobody was sent to help us for 40minutes!! Once back in the room, we were greeted by a cockroach!!!
After a night of no sleep and watching tv (to avoid the dark) we were given a new room, this time in a different building. This room was alot bigger, and all in all was a complete step up. It had a view of the tennis courts and was alot cleaner. There were still downsides, as there was alot of damp on the ceiling in the bathroom, a light-fitting hanging off the wall, stains on the walls and chewing gum stuck to the nightstand! In comparison to the first room, this was a palace. The room also had a very strong smell of urine throughout our 2 week stay, which we put down to a drainage problem, as the sink took a good 10 minutes to drain and the shower often flooded. (the toilet was also very difficult to flush, but this was a problem everywhere).
Other members of our party stayed in their original room (as it was nicer than ours) however they still had plenty of cockroaches and bugs, and some other English people we met were greeted most mornings by a roach!!!
The restaurant/bar staff were friendly (especially when tipped) and were extremely good at their jobs! If sat in the restaurant there was a never ending supply of strawberry daquaries coming to the table! Entertainment staff Fernando and Winnie were also great! Both should be working at a better hotel, as they are too good for the Dos Playas! Pools were kept clean and sun loungers were aplenty! Shame there is no evening entertainment (although we went out most nights) and there should be somewhere to have a few drinks after dinner, rather than being sat round the darkened pool area.
If you're looking for basic, then i guess this is the place! . I wouldn't return to this hotel in a million years! So be warned!!!

The room was clean, the food was good, the head waitress Veronica woz awesum and the rest of the staff were friendly. The air-con does need up-dating and there should be a function room if it does rain.More choice of cocktails but overall we had a lovely time and would recommend to anyone to go and try it.
