“Under Water”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

I have always enjoyed playing golf at Riviera Cancun. We played in the middle of January and it was under water. All drives plugged or found the unplanned water hazards that were in the middle of most fairways. When the opened the back nine the paths were mostly covered with water. The crocks were very pleasant unitl they blocked the path and we had to turn around and go back through deep water. What a jungle adventure this year!

“Rude and Unhelpful Staff, Course Underwater”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

We booked a reservation through the hotel concierge and were told the greens fee was $90 at twilight, and nothing about only 9 holes being open. On arrival, we discovered that the fee was in fact $120, and that only nine holes were available for play. The manager offered zero concessions on the price and refused to stand by his staff's statement to the hotel concierge that the price was $90. Worse, they refused to provide transportation back to the hotel (the course is out in the boonies) and we needed to arrange our own. Even the 9 holes that are open look to be largely swamped, although playable, with areas of standing water on the course. If you want to pay $340 (including rental clubs) for a twosome- round it up to $400 including balls you'll likely lose - to play 9 swamped holes, jump on it. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

“Water water everywhere!”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

This golf course should have been closed (like the other two played). This is a nice course (played it before) but it was completely flooded with only 9 hole opened and half of them had temporary tee boxes. Nice people but we were not told about how bad the conditions were until we met the Starter.

“The course, damaged by monsoon rains, should be closed for repairs”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

The staff here are great, so let me say that off the bat. However, the monsoon rains that have fallen on the Yucatan Peninsula should have closed this course until it could be repaired and become playable again. Only 9 of the 18 holes of this Jack Nicklaus designed course were open. And those 9 were in pretty bad shape. No one is responsible for the vagaries of the weather; but, we need to respond appropriately to the outcome. This course is utterly unplayable in its current condition.
