“Great, simpel hostel, great staff!”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Great, simple hostel downtown. The best about this hostel is the staff. You have to speak some spanish, but they are willing to arrange everything for you.
Location downtown is great, around the corner of Yaxchillan street, filled with restaurants and bars and very close to Parque las Palapas, a square which comes to life at night when locals come to enjoy music, food and drinks.
Breakfast is very simple, but ok. After a night of rain we had some water in our room. When we mentioned this they gave us another room.

We stayed here two times for one night each time, in June and July 2013. We slept once in the dorm downstairs, that gets really hot at night, and once in the dorm upstairs, which is definitely better especially if you get a top bed - because of the fans - and has a bathroom inside the room.
The hostel is nice and well maintained, most of the people who work there are very nice and friendly, even if not all of them. They kept our bag for over a month (for free) since we were making a loop that would come back to Cancún and wanted to leave some heavy stuff somewhere.
The kitchen is okay and the breakfast (included) is surprisingly big for this kind of hostels, and they even had croissants. It is a cheap hostel though, so don't expect high quality.
One big drawback in my opinion is the "curfew" they have after 10pm (yes, as early as that!!), when the common dining area is closed and you can't really stay anywhere because they would come and ask you to shut up and leave the common space. If you are planning to party in Cancún and don't need much space, it's fine, but if you like a hostel atmosphere, to meet other travellers and chill a bit, it's definitely not the perfect spot. Plus, there is a "party-hostel" next door so it's kind of frustrating to be in the boring hostel where everything shuts down at 10 while next to you there are lots of people having loud fun.
In conclusion, I would recommend it only if you don't mind the cons, and definitely if you are not staying for more than 1-2 nights.

Room Tip: I prefer the upstairs dorm, a bit cooler and with bathroom.

we stayed here for one evening after landing in cancun and before catching the bus to chichen itza in the morning.

the hostel was super clean, allowed you to pay cash or card, and felt very safe. the staff was very nice and accommodating! handed out maps and gave great suggestions for food and directions.

the neighborhood was unique with lots of schools nearby. we really enjoyed climbing up on the roof at breakfast and taking in a totally different view of cancun. was also took a nice walk around the surrounding streets. since we were in cancun for such a short amount of time, we totally preferred being in a real neighborhood and not the big hotel scene.

we got to the bus stop by foot the next morning in less than fifteen minutes very safely and caught an 8am bus with no problems. awesome stay!

Room Tip: bottom floor with bathroom and patio access

Clean room with a comfortable bed, good light, friendly staff, conveniently located close to the bus station with access to a local market area, stores and city transportation to the beaches. We arrived late, stayed a couple of nights, then continued on. On our return we were glad to go back for another over-night stay and would definitely return again. Affordable, good restaurants and eating places nearby, 24 hour accessibility, with english speaking staff at reception. For a short stay in Cancun, it's reliable and a great choice overall - glad to recommend.

Room Tip: There is a single room with access to a small courtyard

If you want cheap room near old city and main bus station just to stay a day or two, than it is a right place for you. Be aware that the most of the rooms are not like the rooms at the pictures on Internet. Only two rooms have good facilities and bathroom just like on the internet site but the rest of them have old facilities.

Room Tip: Room number 1 is the best.

The staff are very helpful and friendly, and were happy to give recommendations & directions for good restaurants nearby. The room was clean. No lock on the dorm room door. Single small bathroom for dorm. Overall, good value for money. Stayed one night before an early flight out.

We chose Haina Hostel as a brief overnight hostel as we landed late in Cancun and would be leaving the following morning. We chose a prvate ensuite room, which definitely had a fan and also I think it had AC.

The room was massive (as with all rooms in Mexico), clean and with a great hot shower. Everyone was very friendly and location is easy walking distance from the bus station.

As with most cheap hostels you can't expect perfection and that is fine. The kind of things we struggled with were as follows: the view from the massive window was over a pretty grubby garden area and the curtains didn't really meet. The breakfast was very basic continental but people there were using the fridge and facilities to make their own food.

Recommended for a good budget place to stay.

Room Tip: Our room was through the common room area, which might not be ideal for everyone.
