Our initial impression of the hotel was great pool/lobby and the rooms were ok but we were called 2-3 times a day by time share people the first day walking us up early. It stopped when I finally made it down to the "concierges desk" which was really a time share desk and not at all concierge & told them I was not interested and the phone calls stopped. Our other dissapointment were several tacky guests/families going out to the pool at 7AM to "reserve" their pool side lounge chairs with books, sandals to show up hours later; by 11AM - 12noon to claim their "chairs". Frankly I moved the junk away and we sat there for hours until a rather large lady came out to "claim" her seats; told her sorry but they are taken and we got to look at her nasty stares for the rest of the afternoon and listening to her talk about how we "took her chairs. Hotel should put a sign up that if you're not in your chairs for extended periods of time other guests should be able to sit there and "reserving" chairs early in the AM to return at lunch time not acceptable. We moved to Fiesta Americana after 3 nights at this hotel and absolutely loved that hotel, the service, no time share people and a classier guests!

We cannot say enough positive things about this resort., its location, or its staff. While many complain about the beach, or lack thereof, we found it to be quite perfect. While not for small children or the faint of heart, the surf offers a warm surround of crashing water - very similar to that of Waikiki.
There is even a Mayan Ruin directly adjacent to the property, complete with iguanas - very entertaining for adults and children. Beware of sales people everywhere trying to entice visitors to tour hotels and resorts, book tours, and buy jewelry -- they are everywhere and very persistant.
The staff greeted us in the most pleasant way, making us immediately feel comfortable and relaxed, even after 13 hours of flying time.
The pool temperature was just fine in the afternoons, though slightly cool in the morning, but the temperature is completely forgotten after looking out to the Caribbean Sea. Two words of caution - WEAR SUNSCREEN - even though I had a deep tan, I burned in less than half a day.
La Europa is a shop about 10 minutes walking distance from the resort (completely safe to do so), and it is fully stocked with outstanding, reasonably priced wines, liquors, specialty deli goods, and other food staples that make the trip even better. Traveling by bus to Walmart is incredibly easy and safe as well, and it is very inexpensive to shop.
After traveling abroad and staying in five star hotels and resorts for years, we feel very comfortable in recommending this resort to anyone traveling to Cancun - it is a lovely place.

The property is quite beautiful. I thought the landscaping was nice. There is, however, a lot of cement with many lounge chairs. This is necessary because there is practically no beach on the east facing side of the island. The beach is hard to walk because it is very narrow and steeply angled towards the water. We knew this going in, as we have been to Cancun numerous times. We had a room in Building 4, third floor. The room is nice; it's small but has a comfy bed, kitchenette, washer/dryer, and a small balcony. The bathroom had a shower with separate tub; it was nice but like others, we did have some minor flooding from the shower. Easily fixed by a towel. Our view was slightly obstructed as the room was adjacent to the next building. It overlooked the pool and sea, but we could not see "beach". This may be because the floor we were on was too low, or just because there isn't much of a beach. We were disappointed that you couldn't hear the sea and waves from the hotel area (pool or our room balcony). There are fountains that are turned on 24 hours a day which drown out the sounds of the sea. The pool was great; we did not find it cold. It's very large and beautiful. The pool bar was also great.

Service was 3 star. Housekeeping does show up every day for renters vs. vacation property owners. For us, this was around 5 pm, which was the end of our beach day, so we did not use housekeeping services. Two restaurants were available - by the pool and the main one. We did not eat there. We tried to order room service several times, but nobody answered. We tried for 30 minutes without success. We had trouble exchanging money at the hotel. They did not have enough pesos for $100 usd. We got a handful of change, a stack of very small bills, and "we owe you 2 pesos". There were very few people at the hotel, and in Cancun in general. Like another reviewer, we tried to upgrade our room but were told no rooms were available. I prefer honesty, and that was clearly a lie. The staff was friendly but not very helpful. I will temper this by saying that we typically stay at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach when in Cancun, which is clearly a 5 star property. While we were not expecting 5 star services, we did have higher expectations than what we experienced. We checked out 4 days early to move to the Coral Beach. Upon checking out, we were a little surprised that the staff did not even ask why we were leaving early.
Overall, it's a nice property. Service could be better, but I think it is on target with the hotel rating. I prefer the north shore beaches; they are bigger, the sand is powdery white and soft, and there are gentle lapping waves. The east side (which the Westin Lagunamar faces) has coarse sand, steep slopes, and rough waves - which are fun for a while. If you love the Westin but want a nicer beach, take the bus to Playa Caracol or Playa Tortuga on the north side.

My mom and I stayed for 5 nights at this beautiful, new hotel. We were in a one bedroom suite, and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!!! The bathroom is awesome too. I loved balcony and view! The pool was a bit on the cold side for me but my mom enjoyed it.

Our experience there was wonderful until the last day when cash was stolen from our room in the 20 minutes that neither of us were in the room and we had taken everything out of the safe because we were about to check out. It was not a large amount, but the principle of it was the bothersome part. The staff took a report and said they were going to investigate, but never followed up with us about it. My remaining pesos were part of the stolen amount, which was to be our cab fare to the airport, so they did provide a private car service for our airport transfer.

When we arrived employee's are waiting to greet you. They took our bag to our room. We got settled and talked to Carlos Garcia whom helped us with tours and resturants. He even advised us to go to the Walmart and get some food and drinks. We did go to Walmart,it was kinda scary, but we made it. We took the bus everywhere. It was easy and cheap. We did take a taxi back from walmart because of the bag. It was $15 american dollars. ALWAYS PAY WITH PESO you get a better rate. Do have american dollars to tip with it. They love it!
We went to the resort to celebrate our honeymoon. It was a great choice. We loved the pool bar, food was good and drinks yummy! The price's were not bad. drinking for 6 nights and eating lunches and snacks our bill was only $207 at check out! Our room was amazing, the view, the bed, everything.
The rooms all have ocean view. The room was clean and smelled fresh. It was stocked with everything. Hair dryer, make up mirror, i loved it! Kitchen was stocked with everything. Had washer and dryer. We didn't have a problem with the water runing out of our showers. EVERYONE was friendly and spoke english... NO worries with this resort!
I will go back asap!!! Didn't want to come home.

One negative the resturant Carlos recommended Casa Mag(something)Its next to Ruth Chris Steak House, It's suppose to be a really good mexician resturant, AWFUL stay away.. Worst steak and burrito. We took two bites got our check and ran...

Lorenzo's Seafood Was great!! Very nice and yummy!!!
La Distilleria was good, sorry for the spelling..

We went on the tour to Chichen Itza was worth it... We went on a day that was cloudy made the trip nice. You got to travel through a mayan village and stop and see the most beautiful cenote ever. Then you eat lunch, which was tasty. Then you got to Chichen, it was like 5 mintues from the cenote. It did take two hours there and back. But it was a nice ride, we slept both ways. When you book through the resort you are considered VIP you get drinks and special service!

Go on the jungle tour, you driver your own boat and have a personal tour guide to snorkle! Best snorkle saw a lot of fish and corals..

Go to Isla Mujeres, but stay away from the town/it was pointless. Just a bunch of shopes with junk and haglers... I should have swam with the dolphins instead. Oh well maybe next time! Also the water was cloudy and when we snorkled we didn't see any fish/sharks.
