We are the owners in the Starwood Vacation Ownership program and come to Cancun once a year. The villas are beautifully decorated with granite counter-tops. The one drawback is that there is no oven, so you have to either grill your food or cook it on the stove top. Other Starwood Properties do have ovens, so I'm not sure why they didn't put one in Cancun. The restaurants at the property are alright, but nothing special. They used to have a bar in a lounge area, which they eliminated in favor of a sports bar, so there isn't really any nice quiet place to have a drink at sunset, although the Villas have balconies, so that's your quiet place.

The concierge staff is wonderful. Emma has been our assigned concierge for a few years and her recommendations for restaurants and activities are impeccable.

We were in building one which is at the very edge of the property and had a very hard time getting hot water. We had to call several times but because our Villas was at the edge of the property and on a higher floor, I don't think that the system they have in place is adequate.

Westin should eliminate the vendors along the pool side restaurant as it cheapens the experience. We don't need to go on vacation to have vendors hawking their wares. All and all we love coming back year after year.

I read another review where the Internet and WiFi was criticized and that's absolutely correct. It sporadically works and is very slow. We could never really get our phones synced to the WiFi.

The exercise room is good, although they added a 2nd workout room in the new wing that is much smaller and doesn't have all of the necessary equipment.

Room Tip: If you can get an ocean front room, they are the best. Stay above the 3rd floor otherwise the trees block any views of the ocean.

We just returned from 5 days at the Lagunamar. Overall it was a wonderful trip!

The pros: This is an excellent location, very friendly staff, rooms are spotless, beautiful grounds, pools and hot tubs are immaculate, great beach, having a kitchenette and washer/dryer is wonderful

The cons: WIFI and internet is TERRIBLE (this was the biggest negative for us), while always friendly the service was very slow at all onsite bars and restaurants

Tip: Buy your food and drink at the market downstairs and make/pour your own.

Just arrived home from a week at this wonderful resort! My 7 year old daughter, my father and I had a wonderful time here! The staff are incredibly wonderful ... especially the Fun Team ... thank you Rene, Sebastian and Daniel for making our time by the pool and beach a blast! My father won a bottle of tequila from a game and we are enjoying that now at home! Speaking of drinks ... my my they are expensive at the resort ... so I purchased a bottle of tequila (100 pesos) and margarita mix (45 pesos) at the local Superama in town and made my own (strong) drinks ... let me explain that one margarita by the pool is 140 pesos ... I bought an entire bottle of tequila for 100 pesos ... not hard to make that decision. The food we had at the poolside and in the restaurants was excellent, well worth the money paid. Chairs at the pool and on the beach were easy to come by and when we first arrived a family gave us a boogie board that they were given when they arrived and we were instructed to pass it on when we left, which we did ... that was really cool ... my daughter enjoyed that immensely. The ocean was a little rough most days, but there is nothing like looking at that beautiful color of water! We had a one-bedroom suite with a studio attached, which worked beautifully for all of us. We fixed breakfast in the room every morning ... bacon and eggs were available at the small market at the resort (very convenient for the staples) and we sometimes ate lunch at the pool or made sandwiches in the room, depending on our mood. Dinner we went out ... we enjoyed the Italian night at the Oceana restaurant at the hotel, the DUNA sportsbar has some really good cheeseburgers and the Tampiquena Steak from the Room Service menu is to die for! Also across the street are some nice restaurants on the pier, which were excellent and one of our favs Bubba Gump's is about a mile down the strip. Lots of choices to choose from on the Hotel Zone. Overall, we enjoyed our stay immensely and found the staff to be great no matter what service they were providing! THANK YOU WESTIN LAGUNAMAR FOR A WONDERFUL FAMILY TRIP!

Westin Lagunamar is in a fabulous location across from La Isla Shopping Mall, in the Hotel Zone. Directly on the ocean, the sunrises are terrific, and the facilities are too! This resort has been renovated since Hurricane Katrina, and it is beautiful throughout. Although the ocean can be dangerous at times to enter due to the undertow(watch for the flags), the pools are warm and extremely clean. With the Isla Mujeres ferry a few minutes up the road, and the ferry ride just 15 minutes, spending the day on Isla is easy and so relaxing! The staff at Westin is very friendly. There is a stretch along a section of the pool sidewalks with vendors selling local wares and Patricia braiding hair. Westin is close to Cancun Centre, and under an hour to drive to Playa del Carmen. This is a timeshare resort, so you will be approached to sit in on a presentation, if you prefer. Also, there is a Mayan Ruin on site.

My husband I stayed here Dec 2 and 3rd as we were at an all inclusive in the Mayan and decided to check out early to see Cancun.

We were not disappointed in this hotel, we had a studio room and it was excellent. We did not use the kitchen as we were only there two nights so it was not worth cooking and buying groceries. I would definitely go do the Walmart or Costco thing though if we had stayed longer! We also found a great European deli across the road just down from the Isla shopping centre. We loved that you get a washer and dryer as we had been away from home for two weeks so it was nice to just get our laundry all done before coming home. We just switched loads as we came in and out of the room.

Check in was easy and the staff all very friendly. We were offered an upgrade for free but declined as it was on the main floor and we wanted to be higher up and see the ocean. For only two nights we did not care about a bigger room. The only down side was that they stick pretty tight to the three o'clock check in time and having come from another resort we were homeless for a few hours. We changed into our bathing suits and used the pool but were stuck there for three hours as we had the computers and cameras with us until we got our room.

The staff at the quitter pool were awesome, very friendly and came around in the mornings and said a very friendly good morning to everyone before they started their shifts.

The downside for us was that we were beside the linen room where housekeeping starts their day so we were woke up every morning as it was pretty noisy…try to get a room far from that. Perhaps a towel under your door would help that out as well to block the noise.

Overall, we love it there and would definitely visit again! We used the sports bar for some chowder one night and it was delicious and loved the little fire pit area in front of it.

We did cross the road to the Isla shopping centre and ate at the Thai restaurant and it was so cozy, the food is average but what a greta environment.

We had lunch at the taco grill and it was good but two taco's and two daiquiris was 50 dollars…a little pricey.

We wish we had have walked down the road to the right as there is another mall with Margaritaville we would have liked to go too.

There is also a nice BBQ area by the pool that you can cook your food at. Very handy - they have really not forgotten anything!

I went to the gym one day and they have a decent amount of equipment. It was full but I was able to use the bike. There is also a steam room and sauna for guests in the change rooms. They have blow dryers, shampoo, etc in there for you.

The market is right outside the gym and it is handy for sandwiches, yogurts, etc. They have wine, beer pretty much anything you could want for a shorter stay. It is a little pricey so if you are going to be there a few days I would go to the supermarket.

Enjoy your stay!!

Room Tip: higher floors for view and far from housekeeping area
