We stayed in this property for 5 days at the end of January.
The hotel is absolutely stunning.
The infinity pool is amazing. We spend most of our time at the beach. There were always chairs available at the beach with umbrellas. No need to wake up early to reserve anything.
We were put in building 10 in a studio room on a high floor. This is the new building. The westin basically build another 5 or 6 connected building next to the existing property. The building and rooms are all finished. The pool in front of these new buildings is also finished but not opened yet. They were still working on the lobby. However the last day we were there, they were boarding up the construction area of the new lobby which tells me that they may open the new pool. The new pool area looks exactly the same as the existing pool except that it is no an infinity pool, but the shape, pool bar etc.. look identical.
Everything in the hotel met our expectation. We ate in both restaurants for breakfast and lunch. We had dinners outside of the hotel in la isla mall. 2 restaurants I would highly recommend for couples are THai and Elefante (thai and inidian food). The food was very good in both restaurants and the view and setting incredible. They are both set on the lagoon in la isla mall, with huts built right on the water. To get the huts on the water, you need to call ahead for reservations.
This hotel has a great location. When the weather wasn't great for beach/pool, we just walked across to the mall for shopping, drinks etc...

Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The resort was beautiful, clean and even though they are finializing some construction it was quiet. The rooms are amazing. The beach was postcard perfect. I did have to ask for towels everyday. Directly across the street from upscale shopping. I am already planning my next visit to the Launamar.

Just got back ! We had a fabulous vacation and a wonderful stay. First, the pros- the pools and beach are gorgeous, we loved our room and the kitchen had everything you could every want or need for meals, bathroom was big and great (yes we had the water temp problems of other reviewers but if you let the water run for 10 minutes before getting in it solves the scalding hot issue most of the time,) and the location of the hotel was great for long beach walks, walking to restaurants, and hitting the outdoor mall across the street during a rainy period or for a late dessert (they had several ice cream and frozen yogurt type places.) We had 3 wonderful meals at 3 of the best restaurants we have ever been to on vacation (all off the resort-5 mins away by car or a 15 min walk)-Harry's, Fred's (get a private bungalow on the beach if you can,) and our absolute favorite La Habichuela Sunset.

We had such an amazing trip that I feel guilty pointing out any minor issues with the place but I will do so in the interest of informing other guests so that they can adjust their expectations. First, while I completely enjoy being "unplugged" on vacation, we had to check our email for work at one point during the week and there was no connectivity, wifi, etc. I could not check email all week- enjoyed the break but for others this would be a bigger issue. Second, the gym is not acceptable for a place this big and this new. 2 of the 3 ellipticals were broken while we were there- a sign on one only- and 3 of the 5 treadmills could not be adjusted making them impossible to run on. I went around 7:30-8 and there were people waiting to get on the machines every day that I went due to a small number for a resort this size plus the broken machines. Yes there are bigger issues but a minor annoyance. There is also no "spa"- you get massages in the locker room in a separate room and I could hear the person in the next room talking to the woman doing her pedicure the whole time. The massages were amazing-highly recommend Raphaela- but some might be bothered by the lack of a traditional "spa" as is typical at a Starwood property. Third, the food at the resort is worse than fair and expensive. Next time we come we will stop at a grocery store or Walmart on the way in and pick up stuff for breakfast and lunch-we ordered on the beach daily this trip. Finally, the sheets and towels that we were given 4 of the 5 days had stains. A lot of them. Did not bother us on the beach but quite nasty on your sheets in the bedroom! Again, these are minor complaints when the resort was so great as was the trip! Just some info for the next guests. You will not be disappointed by this wonderful place- just expect a four not five star place.

This was my first visit to Cancun and my wife's second. We stayed at the Westin Lagunamar based on reading reviews here on Trip Advisor. It's a gorgeous resort well placed between Cancun International airport and downtown Cancun. In our pre-arrival planning, we decided to reserve our round trip ground transportation with Cancun shuttle which was a smart thing to do since we didn’t have to wait long at all to get to the hotel. Because we arrived so early, our room was not ready but it was no big deal since we had an opportunity to walk around and get acquainted with the property. One thing we learned quickly was that a portion of the property was “under construction”.
As our room was being cleaned, we decided to have a quick lunch at the Viento Restaurant located next to the infinity pool. Lunch there was ok and reasonably priced. Not the greatest lunch but not the worst by far. One I haven’t mentioned is the friendliness of the staff. They always went out of their way to ensure our stay was as pleasant as possible. After lunch we hung out on a one of the hammocks they have available and took a nap. Nothing like having calm breezes of the Caribbean while enjoying a nice nap.
After our nap we went back to the front desk to check in and everything went without a hitch. We checked in to room 348 when we walked in the very first thing we noticed was the beautiful view of the ocean. The view was just amazing. One thing about the room numbers, the first number is the building you’re, second number is the floor. I read some reviews that it’s better to be in the upper floors and I would have to agree. During our stay the room was more than adequate with the kitchenette giving us the opportunity to prepare snacks if we wanted. The resort also has a market on site with very reasonably priced groceries. After we got settled, we decided to go down and hang by the pool. The infinity pool is gorgeous Plenty of pool chairs by the pool as well as down by the beach. The only disappointment we had during our stay was the weather. Plenty of sun but it never got above 78 degrees. I’m not being a [--] but it makes a difference when there is a 15 MPH wind blowing. It wasn’t a lot of fun having my nipply’s poking out for most of the trip. Just saying.
When we were not relaxing by the pool, we decided to go across the street to a fairly large shopping mall with quite a few restaurants and shops. You really don’t need a car since right in front of the hotel is the bus stop which takes you up and down hotel row and the night club area. SAFETY WAS NOT AN ISSUE ALL DURING OUR STAY.
As I mentioned before and I’ll mention again, the staff were always friendly and helpful. Their tips on out of the way traditional restaurants were spot on. And speaking of restaurants, their Oceano Restaurant should not be overlooked with a different nightly theme. The food was delicious.
As I stated at the beginning, a portion of the property was under construction. Because of that and depending when you travel, you may encounter some of the construction noise as we did. On the positive side, they never started the banging early in the day.
So in summary, I would stay at the Lagunamar again when I return to Cancun, and I would suggest to others not to rent a car if you don’t need one since affordable transportation exists at the resorts front steps.

I was traveling with family. My toddler son, husband, siblings, parents and in law so had a nice span in ages.

Room: We booked a 2 bedroom lockoff and was assigned room 967 and 968 in building 9 on the 6th floor. What an awesome view!! We had a corner unit and got the view of the pool and ocean. I highly recommend it!

Location: The location was wonderful. There is the R1 and R2 buses right outside the guard booth area for easy access to downtown, Walmart, Chedraui (mexican supermarket), Playa Tortugas Ultramar Ferry terminal to Isla Mujeres, Market 28 etc. The La Isla Mall accross the street was good for some quick bites to eat and the Deli/Grocery store good for milk and small items.

Pool/Beach: The infinity pool was awesome! We read that it may be cold but found the temp. to be decent. A bit chilly at first but you warm up to it once you get in. The area on the side is perfect for little children as it was ankle deep only. It never felt crowded in the pool! People do reserve chairs but we never found a lack of chairs by the pool. The beach was also really nice and plenty of chairs to go around there. The red flags everyday we were there but there is one part of the beach/water you are allowed to go into. I wouldn't recommend it for small children though. My son was really happy playing in the sand. The slide was also lots of fun. Adults, kids, all went on it and had a blast! We bought our own floatation/donut and sat on it to go down the slide. Lots faster and tons of fun. The pool and facilities were very clean, every morning we see the staff cleaning and making sure everything is in order. The medics/lifeguards were also really helpful. My dad scraped his knee and they were very good about cleaning and tending to it. My parents tried the pool aerobics and had a blast with it. The person leading it was awesome and very energetic!

Food: We ate at the pool restaurant the first day we got there. The food was good and they had happy hour from 3-4 so we got buy 1 get 1 drink free. Drinks were ok. We also tried a nice restaurant a short walk from the hotel to the left of the hotel near Dominos Pizzas. Fish Fritanga was recommended by the hotel and they gave us free drink with the card the hotel gave. It was priced reasonably considering it was the hotel zone. The restaurant is located behind the take out and down the stairs so we ate by the water. Very nice and the food was good. Seafood was fresh and one person in our party is allergic to seafood so he ordered a beef fajitas dish and it was excellent! They gave him habinaro sauce since he liked it spicy and it was great!

Tip: The kids center rents out for free buckets, shovels, trucks to play with on the beach. We took advantage of this and was able to build a small sand castle with him. Saves the trouble of bringing it from home. They also have books for rent at the kids club/youth center. You can borrow one and return or drop off any books you don't want to take. They have ping pong, foozeball, and pool. Fun!

Other Hotel Amenities: My 3 year old also had fun in their outdoor playground. There is also 2 bunnies in that area you can pet. Our family also had fun playing putt putt/mini golf and rented the volleyball (free). to play on the beach or in the pool. Next to the hotel on the left (beach side), there is a small Mayan Ruin you can walk up. BBQ grills, we did BBQ one night and you can borrow (free) bbq grilling equipment at the marketplace store on the lower level.

Transportation: We didn't end up using the hotel transfers but instead used USA transfers. Everything was great with them.

Negative: The only thing we had issues with was the internet connection. We had no wireless from our room. We could detect it but was unable to connect. The "wired" connection wasn't working either so we called and the IT guy came 2 days later (Monday) to get us back online.

Overall, a really good trip! I would recommend the hotel. Nice amenities and good location.

Room Tip: We were in building 9 on a high floor. Closest to the pool and beach!
