I highly recommend trip to Chichen Itza organized by Mayaland Tours. They are done in small groups, early in a day before it gets too hot. Special thanks to our driver Enrique from Gray Line company who made us feel so special, comfortable and safe, and our guide Faustino for his knowledge, passion and professionalism. They made this trip an unforgettable experience.

We booked a trip to from Merida to Chichen Itza with Gray Line and overall had a good experience.

The van that picked us up was new and had great AC, which is a must in Yucatan's hot and humid climate. The driver, Wilbert, was friendly and made everyone feel very comfortable right away.

Upon arriving at Chichen Itza, however, we learned that we would be with a different group for the English tour. Since that group was driving from a different pickup location, the guide decided to begin the tour in the van so we missed a majority of the facts. The driver/guide, then tried to fill us in here and there throughout the actual tour. This was a bit of a bummer since we definitely felt like we missed out. It made us wonder what was even the point of paying for the tour...

The guide was very knowledgeable of the area and the history so in the end it didn't feel like a complete bust.

The tour also included access to a buffet. The food did the trick but wasn't anything to write home about. After lunch, we had enough free time to explore the grounds ourselves and take photos of the sites. I really liked how they paced the tour. We didn't feel rushed at all.

After, our group met up with Wilbert and decided to visit Yokdzonot Cenote to cool off and end our trip. I AM SO GLAD WE DID! This was such a nice touch.

I would definitely recommend using Gray Line. The service is very reliable and the staff very friendly.

When browsing tours offered through a big name travel website, I came across one that seemed close to what I was looking for for our family group of 10 but didn't exactly fit. I decided to look at the Grayline website and did a live chat with Enrique Ramos inquiring as to the possibility of slightly customizing one of their existing itineraries. Enrique was courteous, helpful, and quickly able to get a quote to achieve what I wanted, following up with a prompt email outlining the details as requested, a link to pay online via Paypal, and a confirmation. What we ended up with was a private tour for 10 departing at 6.30 am from our hotel, on a Mercedes minibus with a certified guide accompanying us the whole way along the tour of Chichen Itza, use of of the hospitality suite and facilities at the Mayaland hotel, a brief visit to Valladolid and return to our hotel.

Two days before our tour, I emailed Enrique to confirm that everything was still in order and received a prompt reply. At the agreed-upon time, our group presented ourselves at the hotel lobby to find our guide, driver and mini bus already waiting. The bus was clean and new. Our driver was Francisco and our guide was Mauricio and the general consensus in our group was that we were very fortunate to have these two! I can't say enough about how great these two men were! Both were pleasant, professional and hospitable. Mauricio was very knowledgeable and we got a lot more out of the tour with him along than if we had just walked around on our own. The ride out to Chichen Itza didn't seem as long because he gave us valuable and interesting commentary about history, customs, the Mayan calendar etc along the way. We also watched a DVD about the site as an introduction. Stops to use the bathroom and to buy local fruit from roadside vendors (at our request) broke up the trip, as well as brief detours to drive through a Mayan town to see typical architecture and interesting structures like a bullring (at Mauricio's suggestion). We really enjoyed the journey out there and the time passed quicker than we thought.

The Mayaland hotel was beautiful! Very comfortable facilities, clean, beautiful gardens, quiet. We were able to make a stop here to get refreshments, use the bathrooms and wait in the shade while Mauricio got our tickets, and to easily access the Chichen Itza site through shaded paths. After our morning tour of Chichen Itza

I was surprised to find negative feedback for Grayline, as I have used their airport transfer service fairly consistently for a number of years, and have had nothing but great experiences. A word to the wise, however, when they request you give them at least 24 hour notice by email to confirm that you still want the service, they mean it. Our last experience, the Mayaland Chichen Itza small group tour, was wonderful. Our guide was great, our driver was great, and they even picked us up from our hotel in a lovely Mercedes, and whisked us to the waiting van. The ride was smooth and uneventful, and our guide Carlos kept us entertained with all types of historical information, conjecture, trivia, and even Mayan "horoscopes". Once in Chichen Itza, our tour was interesting, although the number of merchandise hawkers throughout the park were somewhat annoying. Unfortunately, there is nothing the Grayline folks can do about it, except encourage you to ignore it. I wish the powers that be would realize that the park would be far more beautiful, mystical and enjoyable without "for you, only one dollar" being shouted all over the place . . . All that aside, our guide's knowledge was extensive, and he had many photos and interesting articles to back up his tour with additional, often fascinating, details. When we were finished, we went back to the Mayaland hotel, a gorgeous example of Spanish colonial style, and formerly an exclusive retreat for the rich and famous (Jackie and Ari, the Radziwills, Pavarotti, and Greg Louganis, just to name a few). The buffet lunch was great, the service extremely attentive (Thank you, Victor!), and the dancing show was entertaining. One of the real highlights of the trip was the time available to swim in the hotel's lovely pool. I would recommend this trip to any of my friends without hesitation.
