“Visit for the food, but be prepared to pay $$$ for it!”
Reviewed May 1, 2011

It is a tradition for us to eat at La Joya on the first night of our stay in Cancun. We love the dancing and singing, and love the bread basket that comes with the meal. Food is usually "gourmet" Mexican, and is hit or miss. However, all of this comes at the major price. Be prepared to pay, even by Cancun standards. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you are staying at the FAGCB, if you want to try gourmet version of Mexican food or if it is conveniently close to your hotel. Other then that, it is not worth the taxi ride.
P.S. Special Margarita was great!

“Scam artists”
Reviewed January 24, 2011

Menu prices are super inflated and the quality of the food is mediocre at best. Very ordinary Mexican food. We were there on a Tuesday when there was dancer and music performance. In addition to the expensive food and drink items, the restaurant charged us $5 UDS per person for the performance, without any prior notice. And, Jesus, our waiter, then wrote in his tip in our bill. The tip he wanted was for over 15% and for the $5USD per person "cover". We disputed this and he then tried to rip us off in our confusion of the USD to Pesos conversion (in which we realized when we got home). I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. The staff is full of crooks!

“A Favorite While in Cancun! Don't Pass It Up!”
Reviewed August 11, 2010

Stayed at Fiesta American Grand Coral Beach many times so we have eaten here numerous times! The service is better then anywhere else! They have a beautiful evening show and a band who plays whatever you'd like table side. The bread served is excellent and the food is to die for!

“Upscale Mexican food”
Reviewed December 1, 2009

This restaurant was very enjoyable. They had a very talented marachi band that performed during our dinner. I had the steak and my wife had steak tacos both were excellent. The service was attentive and they went out of the way to make sure our kids (10 & 8 yr olds) enjoyed their meal also. This place is costly but I thought it was worth it.

“Best dining experience we had in Cancun”
Reviewed August 22, 2009

Dined here on Tuesday Aug 18th.

Great value for quality food and entertainment. The restaurant offers high-end Mexican Cuisine, and there is an authentic Mexican "Ballet" featuring 4 dancers in a variety of costumes, and a full mariachi band.

We started with the tortilla soup, which was just delicious.

I had the Seafood Mixote, which was shrimp, scallops and squid in a very tasty sauce served in a cactus leaf; it was quite mouth-watering. My wife had the tuna steak which was interesting; she enjoyed it but it had a bit too strong of a "mustard-y" flavor for my tastes..

Portion size was average, but you don't look for quantity so much as quality at a 5-star restaurant such as La Joya.

The show was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the dancing and the colorful dresses, and the mariachi band was high class too. We were celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary this August, and we mentioned this to the concierge when she was making our reservation. We were offered a complimentary desert inscribed with a Happy anniversary wish, and the marchiachi band came over and serenaded our table. I have to add that the Baritone singer had the most amazing voice, even though we had no idea what he was singing to us!

The entire meal came to about $82 US including tax and tip, and the cover charge for the show (Only $4 per head)

I will certainly be dining at La Joya at least once the next time we visit Cancun! (As an aside - The Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Hotel where La Joya is located was quite fabulous as well - check out my review there shortly!)
