Tajin is the most interesting archeological site I've visited: The pyramids are awesome and the plastered walls (stucco) are a unique sight. Unfortunately, the rest of the city is boring: Nightlife is limited to a few spots of loud music, and daylife revolves around the park. Nothing much to see.

Papantla is seldom visited by foreign tourists. It is a small town with a rich history (home of vanilla) and psychic energy. There are a couple of hotels on the square to stay at, while you visit the El Tajin archeological site. The atmosphere is different than anywhere else in Mexico, in a good way.

We visited the nearby archelogical site. Very interesting. Had the best tacos from a cart in town from a cart vendor. Interesting drive through town.

I have been here a few times and each time there have been changes, but of course. As time goes by tourists are being limited to where they may clime or enter and for good reason.

stayed a night in Papantla to be able to visit El Tajin and get some vanilla pods. It definitely has less charm than other places and we were surprised, that there was no gastronomy around the vanilla beans, had hoped to try something vanilla based...
