“Unexpected Beauty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

Accommodating staff, excellent restaurant, fantastic room and beautiful decorating all combine to make this a place worth visiting. I stayed in room #6 which was nearly an apartment. With a kitchen, dining room, living room and two upstairs bedrooms there was plenty of room for two people to spread out comfortably.

Room Tip: Room 6 was very roomy but was right next to a family home where dogs and chickens were abundant and...

We came to San Cristobal to study Spanish at the local schools. Our stay at Casa Morada was a pleasantly wonderful surprise. The Villa was clean and comfortable, the staff was attentive and eager, the food was great. We loved our little home after a busy day of learning, shopping, and adventuring. No complaints.

Room Tip: Take some earplugs if you think the fireworks that are set off at 6:30 a.m. to celebrate someone...

Stayed for a weekend at this hotel. The rooms are nice and service was very good, very nice people running the hotel. The walk to downtown is about 10 minutes up and down hills. I find it very hard to say that this hotel is #1 in San Cristobal. There are many other hotels right downtown that I would have preferred to stay in rather than walking down dark streets at the end of a night. The worst part about this hotel is their neighbor, right next door. They have a caged dog that is not let out all day or night and all the dog does is bark NON STOP! They also have a roster that starts going at about 5am every day.

Just a 5 minute walk to the busy and colorful downtown area which makes this hotel a great place to stay. It was quiet and the beds were so comfortable that we enjoyed our 4 night stay very much. Everyone was friendly and eager to help. Breakfast was delicious. Even my teenage kids had a great time and felt like home. We will sure come back.

Really enjoyed this hotel. The Swiss owner has made it really cosy and homely. The roaring log fired create a really romantic atmosphere. Rooms very clean and outstanding service. Would definitely recommend.

San Cristobal can get chilly. This home style hotel offers thick quality linen, hot showers, fire places and room service from the generous restaurant below. Rooms have large couches, Chiapas coffee in room and kitchen facilities.

I recently stayed at Villas Casa Morada for four nights and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Cristobal de las Casas. My taxi driver had a little trouble finding it but all the locals we stopped to ask directions of were very helpful and we got there eventually.

The room I stayed in (#3) was more like an apartment than a hotel room. It has a separate bedroom with a little balcony overlooking the garden at the back, a kitchenette with a four seat dining table and a lounge area with a setee, armchair and an open fireplace. There's no air conditioning but they do have a heater in the bedroom which, along with the open fire, is more than enough to keep the place warm, even in the middle of winter.

The hotel is in a quiet residential area however only about 10 minutes walk to Real de Guadalupe which is one of the city's main restaurant and bar strips. I had dinner in the hotel restaurant the first night – shrimp tacos in a sea of sauce and a plate of cold meat and cheeses. Not great but OK for a hotel restaurant. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and overall excellent value for the price.
