Peculiar and nice small B&B where feeling at home is extremely easy.
If you like art, culture and freedom, here you'll be in the right place to stay!

After reading all the reviews, I was expecting a cosy room with friendly host. Reality was totally different.

Our trip was in December 2010 and it is very cold at nights in San Cristobal (0-5 degrees celcius). The rooms were nice looking and clean but freezing during the night. There were wood ovens in the rooms but you need to know how to build a fire and wake up int the middle of the night to keep the room warm for the whole night. Also the bathrooms were freezing cold as they had no heating at all.

Breakfast was nice but it was served only at 9am. If you wish to take a tour somewhere departing earlier than 10am, you will not get a breakfast.

Finally, Sol y Lunas cancellation and alteration policy is unclear. We changed the dates of our stay from three days to two days and lost our PayPal deposit of one nights price because of this. During phone conversations before our arrival we understood we would not lose it but after the stay, when paying the bill, the owner wanted the price for three nights. The written materials did not mention this and some reviews mentioned changing duration without any losses.

We won't recommend this place during the winter months and to travellers appreciating flexibility in their travel plans.

This was one of the nicest places we stayed in our two months travelling. The house is a small, elegant family home, beautifully restored with lovely art everywhere. The rooms are beautiful and large. We stayed in the suite with a great bathroom flooded with light. Breakfasts are fabulous, a real delight for veggies as well. The owners look after you well, but you feel independent. The courtyard is a lovely peaceful sitting area and there is a fabulous plant nursery on site. An easy and safe ten minute walk from the centre, the house is very quiet and a good escpe from the life in the centre.

It's a true home. It has two true rooms for guests. I stayed in Sol room and it was beautiful. Good bed, good table to work, fresh flowers from Dani's hans, the hostess, and beautiful photos from Cisco, the hoster. The shared bathroom is beautiful and not at all a problem to be shared across the wonderful garden. Great, healthy breakfast. Joy and sweetness from the hosters. And it is much better to stay in Cerrillo than close to the main square. Cerrillo is a nice walk from there, much much quieter and much truer. I only regret I haven't spent more time indoors.

I stayed for 3 nights and my friends and I occupied both rooms. Please be aware that there is a shared bathroom located between the two guest rooms. Aside from that, the entire house is wonderfully decorated and pleasant to stay in, and Cisco made us feel very comfortable sharing his house. He's very cheerful and friendly, is a wealth of information, and is a very interesting person in his own right- don't miss checking out his orchid gardens.

A plentiful, delicious breakfast is included in the price. Be aware that at certain times of the year, San Cristobal gets cold and there is no central heating system (anywhere in Mexico). There are wood-burning fireplaces in the rooms, but we're New Yorkers and couldn't get a fire going! No matter, there were plenty of blankets in the room to keep us warm anyway.

If you want a personable, warm experience and are willing to forgo one or two comforts of a hotel, this is the place to go.

We were honoured to be the guests at Cisco and Dani's Sol y Luna BnB. The room was large and complete with wireless internet, a fireplace, gorgeous artifacts and art and bathrobes. Cisco and Dani made the place very welcoming. If you're into art, Cisco has a gallery next door and we witnessed some very different performance art while there. He also lives within blocks of all the major tourist attractions in San Cristobal. Last I heard Dani was in labour, congratulations! Also... lovely kitties and amazing breakfasts!

sol y luna is one of the best b&b's i've ever stayed in. not only is the charm of it - as written in all the other reviews - welcoming, interesting, comfortable, and not overly done, cisco (the owner) greets you like an old friend. this was the second year in a row we stayed at sol y luna and we felt like we were returning home. cisco is an endless source of information - how to catch a combi from here to there, where to eat, what are some of the nearby highlights - and is a gracious host. the rooms are wonderful - fireplaces with wood already stacked for your use, warm blankets, wardrobes, desk & chairs. the rooms are large enough to spend some turnaround time in, if that's what you want. sol y luna is about 5 blocks from the largest outdoor market of handcrafts and about the same distance from the massive food market, both of which must be experienced! an easy walk to the zocalo, and a perfect distance from it so you don't have car traffic or bar noise when you went to return "home." waking up to a prepared breakfast of fruit or eggs, fresh coffee - can't be beat! and to top it all off, a really great shower with hot water on demand. oh - and wifi, too! this place really rocks.
