It was a rainy night when we decided to dine at El Chalet. It was a very small place but had a very warm and cosy atmosphere. The French owner was so friendly and chatted with us about our travels and diving adventures. His wife, a Mexican, learned French cooking from his grandmother and was the chef in the restaurant. We had beef bourguignon and assiette which were so delicious and a much needed break from tacos, moles and empanadas. Definitely a excellent dinner place in San Cristobal!

An intimate space with a limited, but excellent selection of food. If you want a change from Mexican fare, this would be a perfect choice.

we went to el chalet for diner and where not dissapointed. The food, bread and wine is basic but verry nice. We got sick on our travel and this place got us back on our feet. They take great care off their ingredients. Everything is cleaned with purified water.

The owner is verry nice

Following TripAdvisor recommendations we went and eat at the Chalet. We loved this tiny charming wooden restaurant. We took the delicious (indeed!) beef Bourguignon and an Assiette El Chalet which is a mix between a main plate and a salad (which were quite tasty and a huge porcion for one). The french red wine bottle we ordered perfectly matched with our meal, at reasonnable price. They do not serve coffee but it was very pleasant to end our meal with a wonderful home made mulled wine ! To end up with, the service and welcome were great and we wish all the best to that new place (they opened 3 months ago).
One more thing : do not trust the Trip Advisor map as the restaurant is located far away from its real place, El Chalet is very close to the city center, just 3 blocks away, at the end of the Guadalupe pedestrian street.

we saw the other reviews of el chalet on trip advisor and decided to go here as it was close to our hotel. I'm glad we did.

the food is extraordinary. my girlfriend ordered the beef bourguignon (which is stewed for 24 hours) and I had chicken with a cheese and almond topping. both superb dishes cooked to perfection. the beef was so tender. both dishes were some of the best I have ever eaten. we also had some bordeaux red to go with it.

to top it all off we had a great conversation with ben (the co owner) who is charming and intelligent and I think we genuinely made a new friend.

it was great value and I simply cannot recommend it highly enough.
