Comfortable beds, lots of other people but quiet time after 11pm is good for the nights you want sleep. The chef here is amazing, some of the best meals I have had so far. Sunday night roast was a winner. Good bar, however you can still bring in your own drinks.
Breakfast here is awesome too - a cooked savory or sweet option which differs everyday.
Booked two nights and ended up staying six.

Nice hostel with good atmosphere. They have a nice garden with a fire pit, where they serve free cocktails on Fridays. The breakfast was good as well, there were two different options where you could choose from. The sheets and towels were a big old, but looked clean.

Good hostel, ticks all the boxes great breakfast, towels, good kitchen, wi fi, nice dorms, cheap, clean. Awesome bar with free cocktails 8-11 twice a week with fire burning un the back yard. Don't know what the deal is with all the volunteers 'working' there, didn't bother me, great place with awesome vibe.

Definitely one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. Friendly staff, amazing food from the chef , perfect facilities (clean showers, well equipped kitchen, great bar area and bar man, lovely garden with hammocks etc) and free cocktails twice a week. The vibe here was chilled and I think the friendly volunteer staff make it what it is! Stayed here twice as long as I had planned. Couldn't recommend highly enough! Thanks for a great week!

This hostel is one of the best hostels I've ever been to. I ended up staying there more than two weeks. Why? Here's why. Its downtown location is really good, close to everything you might need. Its staff is awesome, friendly, helpful; it even has a chef that creates delicious meals and plays some cool Irish songs. A fun bar and a nice garden will fulfill people's needs for social life. Free mojitos night, anyone? Frequent campfires add another layer of greatness to this place; it then doesn't feel like you're in a city, it feels more like you're at a country house somewhere in the woods. Fortunately, the dorms are located in a different section of the hostel, so you won't hear the noises from the garden; however, street noises can be annoying at times.

Also, the homemade breakfast is excellent. The kitchen is popular with guests, although it could use a little more equipment. But still, cooking there is fun. The dorm beds are surprisingly comfy and the blankets help guests stay warm during San Cristobal's chilly nights.

But the best thing about Puerta Vieja Hostel is that there is a sense of madness here, in a good way. People let themselves go, they are willing to do crazy things just for fun (like wearing wigs and lucha libre masks, for example). This vibe is contagious and addictive. That's why I extended my stay: I couldn't get enough. Leaving this hostel was a tough moment, because I made many friends there. It felt like home. You have been warned.
