Hotel Parador Margarita
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 11, 2010

My husband and I stayed at Parador Margarita for four nights in early October 2010. The hotel´s staff was very friendly and the outdoor garden area was quite beautiful. The location is decent, about a 5 minute walk from the central square. Unfortunately, the rooms were dark, cold and uncomfortable. In the evening it was literally 55 degrees Fahrenheit in our room as noted by the little space heater that turned off every 5 minutes. The hotel has a no frills breakfast with two options 1) Coffee or tea, juice, toast and eggs or 2) Coffee or tea, juice, yogurt and toast. After four days we were ready for a little more variety.

This hotel is perfect for spending a few days in San Cristobal, especially if you want a nice, quiet room, yet within walking distance of the Zocalo. We stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

+ Very clean rooms, that are very spacious and decorated with new furniture. Ours had a working fireplace, which was great (and necessary) for chilly evenings
+ Zocalo is a 10 minute walk, while the hotel itself is located in a quiet street
+ Breakfast is nice, and quite cheap (50M$)

- At 550M$ per night, the hotel is slighty more expensive than many other ones in town
- The beds are quite large, but mattresses are quite hard

We stayed there four nights. The hotel is ok, clean and close to downtown, But it is very noisy. You hear the cars in the street, people talking outside and everytme someone rings the bell the guy that stays there at night opens the door, greets the guests Etc..
I guess you can´t ask much more for the price
The parking is free but a little far and very very tight. If you are driving a big car as I did, you'd be better paying 70 pesos per night elsewhere
I would not stay there again

Couldn't fault this comfortable little hotel which in all honesty you could miss if you didn't know it was there. In a very quiet locations yet minutes from the bustling main drag. Spacious rooms and bathrooms, free internet access and good breakfast. Service was delightful couldn't be more helpful. Spend a few days there exploring, San cristobal is stunning, wonderful restaurants and shopping.

We were looking for something near the centre of town that offered some colonial charm and a good night’s rest. Parador Margarita San Cristobal was our find. The hotel opened in December, 2008, and has a new, clean feel to it. You enter off Jose Felipe Flores into a small garden courtyard with street level rooms. Beyond this is a larger open courtyard with two levels of rooms on two sides. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed, with lots of solid wood features and large bright bathrooms. Our room was on the second floor at the end of the hall and had an ultra comfortable king size bed with a comforter. Most of the rooms we saw had stained glass windows on the inside – all of them unique in design, and shuttered windows that open up onto the courtyard, with a view of the city and the surrounding hills.
A nicely presented breakfast is included in the price, and there is free internet access. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially Marisol, who helped us book a flight to Mexico City.
The hotel is a short and pleasant walk from the historic centre, with lots of interesting colonial doorways and photo opportunities along the way. On Avenida Diego Dugelay, a half block west, is a street market with colourful fruit stalls. There is also some great eating nearby. Check out El Punto, which serves great pizza from its wood-burning oven, and El Caldero on Insurgentes for the best bowl of hearty soup.
