“Interesting food and a good atmosphere”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

We ate here on two of our nights in Oaxaca. We were unable to reserve a table but were perfectly happy to sit at he bar and sip their delicious margaritas while we waited.

The food was an imaginative take on Oaxacan staples with plenty of choice for vegetarians. The service was relaxed but not inattentive. It is advertised as slow food and it was nice to be able to enjoy your food without any pressure.

There was a fine choice of mezcals to round of your meal.

The atmosphere was very lively with a good mix of tourists and people who were local and known by the staff. We had a really enjoyable time here.

“Shocking service, average food.”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

This is rated as top pick in lonely planet. We spent a few nights in Oaxaca and found much better places to eat. The food was quite nice we enjoyed the daily menu but the service was shocking. Often left waiting for ages - we ended up having to raise our hands to get someone's attention. We also ordered their famous chocolate mousse dessert but the waiters incorrectly brought the apple pie dish out. When we explained what we had ordered they blamed us for the mistake and told us we should learn more Spanish - very rude. Whilst the food was ok - this place does not deserve it's top pick status. We left very underwhelmed.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

La Biznaga has it all. Great food; great value; nice people; fantastic music (they even list a play-list); and great art. It was our go-to place in Oaxaca. The Menu del Dia is always excellent and a great value (Agua Fresca, Mescal, Salad, Main course and coffee for 80-110 pesos). But the a la carte menu was also excellent. We loved the Sopa Azteca and the Salad Oaxaca. There was a chicken dish with bananas (I can't recall the name of the item) was fantastic.

“Great atmosphere, great food, good prices -requires patience!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

The location is great and so are the prices. The food is really great, try the trilogia zapoteca for an innovative take on Oaxacan classics, and reasonably priced. There really is something for everyone, soups are great and go from about 40 pesos. They are not kidding when they talk about slow food, but it's not so much the prep as the service. It is KILLER slow and grumpy. We asked for drinks and were told we had to chase down (almost literally) another waiter. We then wanted food, oh no, not that guy. To get the table cleared? Find the kid in the black t-shirt...The bill? AAAGH. But well worth a visit for a fun, bustly night out and really the place that everyone in Oaxaca meets up for dinner. They have a new bar section too, but I haven't tried it, with a different menu.

“Great food, nice setting, "slow food"”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

Wonderful dishes in large portions. Staff is well informed and helpful - when we ordered too much they let us know, and the chef visited the table to ask us some questions about our order. The result was perfect! Oaxaca food at its best, great prices, great value for money. The atmosphere is artsy and informal, the patrons were a mix of locals and tourists. Even god for families - no one is bothered about kids, and the ambient music is great!
