They take to a lot of businesses that they have pre-arrangements to get you to buy stuff. 90% in Spanish. Awful experience

The tour you took was not with our company. We offer high quality private tours with completely bilingual expert guides. We customize our tours to our clients interests and never take them to a stop they don't wish to go. Please double check the company you booked with and move your review to the correct location. Book through our website discover-oaxaca.com for a great experience in Oaxaca.

I went on a day trip that was sold as English speaking given my Spanish has limitations.
It quickly be and apparent that the guides were not English speakers. At the first stop another guide - from another company met with English speakers to say they were providing the same tour and would meet with us at each stop. We never saw her again!!
Sadly the guide made no effort at all to help me with key information to the point of being rude. Other travellers thankfully helped.
Oaxaca is a fantastic place full of positive engaging people. Unfortunately this does not appear to be the profile of Oaxaca Tour staff.
Don’t despair there are lots of other tour companies that are excellent.

Benito and Suzanne took us on three tours around Oaxaca- TheSouthern Vally Tour, Eastern Vally, and Monte Alban. They customized the tours for us and we were able to get a real immersion in the local markets and small towns. They were knowlegeable and enthusiastic. We were able to see sites that many toursits miss.

For the last two weeks of January 2019 we had the pleasure of having the guidance of Suzanne and Benito as we toured the region around Oaxaca City. This couple is amazing. Their suggestions of where to visit in the hills and valleys around the city were excellent. To have them share their familiarity with the area and their knowledge of both the geography and the history of the region was a gift. Perhaps most striking, however is their love for Oaxaca City and the region. It is contagious.
With their leadership and friendship we could not help but treasure Oaxaca, and after our trip, we value the friendship that grew as we trekked and traveled. Oaxaca is a wonderful place and culture. Touring with Benito and Suzanne made it even richer.

We first met Benito and Suzanne when we were doing importing for a fair trade program. They had been recommended by the people at Just Us coffee in Nova Scotia, and they proved to be marvels. In addition to taking us to the studios of weavers, woodcarvers, and potters for which the district is known, they also found us sources for a range of other products. When our source of hand-made paper in Thailand was no longer available, Benito found an even better source in Oaxaca. He also introduced us to silver-smiths and glass makers (beautiful hand-blown glass with high recycling rates) which we would never otherwise have been able to find.
Since retirement, we still come here for vacation, and Benito and Suzanne continue to open doors we hadn’t even known existed. There are endless guides that will offer to take one to the usual sites (Mitla, Monte Alban, the Hierve el Agua), but even at those locations, Benito and Suzanne’s knowledge of history and fauna makes them come alive in ways unexpected. I don’t have much interest in birds, but Benito has almost converted me. And Suzanne’s ability to bring history to life adds a wonderful dimension. In addition to those standard tours, however, they can bring one to places few tourists think to go, like the spectacular colonial churches in Coixtlahuaca and Yanhuitlán.
We cannot recommend Discover Oaxaca highly enough.
