“Very friendly place to stay”

My wife and I loved staying at Oaxaca Ollin. Jon and Judith are warm and helpful owners, and the staff is great. We also enjoyed meeting the other guests, many of whom had stayed at Oaxaca Ollin on past visits. The breakfasts were wonderful, the rooms clean, and the pool refreshing. We highly recommend Oaxaca Ollin.

What can one say!?! It was great in all aspects. Beautifully decorated, wonderful staff, caring owners on site and security in Mexico. The pool was a delight after a long day touring. I look forward to returning.

Jon and Judith are great hosts, friendly and helpful.

We stayed for a week, took Spanish lessons at Spanish Magic, toured the neighboring villages for crafts, just had a good time. Terrific breakfasts, never the same, friendly staff.

We would have stayed longer, but a large group had reserved the whole B&B, so we moved on. Jon helped us find another good place to stay

Room Tip: The rooms in the front are a little noisier and there's light from a streetlight. We stayed in...

My husband, who is Mexican, and I, American, just returned from five days at Casa Ollin with our two college age children. I was the only member of the family who had ever been in Oaxaca, so it was very exciting to show it to them. Everyone loved it,especially because it happened to be the time for the Guelaguetza! We all loved every aspect of Casa Ollin, from the fresh, hearty breakfasts, the cleanliness of the rooms to the beauty of the pool area.We took much of Judith and Jon's advice for restaurants and ate some amazing local dishes. The guests were super friendly and also gave us many hints as to where to go and what to see. We went Salsa dancing to a local club twice and really loved the atmosphere and music. In general, all the staff at Casa Ollin made our whole experience more comfortable and fun from beginning to end! We would love to be like some of the other guests whom we met who stay there twice a year! I could get used to that!

Room Tip: Our room had a balcony facing the pool, right over the kitchen. Loved it!!

Just spend 9 fantastic days at Casa Ollin for the Guelaguetza and my friend and I had the most fantastic time. Judith, John and their staff did a fantastic job of making it feel like a home away from home. The service, breakfast and room were all top notch. I've been to Oaxaca 7 times but first time at Casa Ollin and it will not be the last. The best part of the trip was taking day trips with Juith and John's son Ernesto. He is the best guide we have ever used in all our years of traveling to Oaxaca. We spend one day visiting all of the folkart villages in the area. Ernesto has personnel relationships with many of the top artist in the area and we were able to visit them at their homes. Since we have been to Oaxaca so many times we wanted to do some thing a little different so Ernesto recommended we spend a second day visiting the Mitla, Tule and one of the most picturesque natural attractions in Central Valleys of Oaxaca, Hierve el Agua, beautiful!!! We also took a third day to visit the Norte Sierra and again incredible. We were able to go hiking, mountain biking and visit ths town of Benito Juarez. Ernesto is a jewel of knowledge and to care of every little detail. Thanks Ernesto and hopefully we will return in December.

Room Tip: Try and get the suite.

Judith and Jon are wonderful hosts, and Judith's encouragement for us to see the ethnobotanical garden (Jardin Etnobotanico) gave us our second-best experience in Oaxaca, with a 2+ hour experience with a native English-speaking guide (from Canada)--it was fabulous. But our first best experience was the cooking class that Judith set up for us with Karla Maria: she happily accommodated my food allergies and preferences, and my husband and I loved shopping with her and then cooking in her lovely open-air kitchen above the Oaxaca Valley. Judith and Jon also set us up with Ernesto, who took us around the area to various crafts villages and to archaeological sites--and brought us to great places for lunch on our all-day excursions. The breakfasts were wonderful and filling. I loved that the guests sat at two large tables and that we had place cards with our names so we got to know the other guests. The coffee was amazing, as was the hot chocolate, the tamales, the beans, the chocolate croissants, etc. Judith and Jon presented me with a lovely arrangement of flowers on my birthday. The staff was incredibly nice! The only noise that I heard were the birds in the morning and the church bells--except on the day when the Santo Domingo Church had a wedding mass hourly and celebratory blasts were launched. I am glad we brought our own water bottles from home as Judith and Jon provided purified water. In a lovely garden room, they also provide a large refrigerator and hot water for tea--all for free. Mezcal is available for a small fee. We had an easy walk to the plaza at Santo Domingo, the zocolo, and all the shopping areas.

We enthusiastically agree with the other posted comments (hospitality, breakfasts--WOW, pool, nearby services) and wish to add our own kudos for the location and tour options. Ollin is a 5 minute walk to fascinating sites including Templo Santo Domingo with adjacent Museo de las Culturas and Jardin Etnobotanico, Benito Juarez's house, the RufinoTomayo Museum, and the Zocalo! The tour led by Ernesto included a Zapotec Taller (Weaving Workshop), the amazing ruins and market at Mitla, and the gigantic/ancient tree at El Tule. Ollin is also a 20 minute walk to the tour buses that run to Montel Alban (Incredible!) and back which we were able to leisurely complete in 4 + hours.

Room Tip: ask for 2nd floor for view of pool and neighborhood
