Only three blocks from the zocalo at the center of Oaxaca, this hotel is a charming place to stay. Many of its rooms have a small kitchenette which allowed us the opportunity to prepare simple meals, coffee, tea, etc. without having to go out to a restaruant (although there are numerous fine restaruants within close walking distance). The rooms are spacious, each with its own personality, "wifi" connection and cable TV. There is a quite patio outside the rooms that is a pleasant place to sit any time during the day with its attractive plants and free coffee service each morning. The manager, Senora Patricia, is amiable and helpful, a good guide to the city and its diverse offerings. Despite recent reports in the media, in the past four years that we have visited Oaxaca we have found the city to be quite safe--never have we felt uncomfortable, even when walking throughout the city long after dark. A well-priced accomodation, we recomment Casa Pereyra without reservation.

In February 2011, we spent three wonderful weeks in the UNESCO Heritage city of Oaxaca, Mexico at the “Hotel Casa Pereyra”, a colonial house dating back to the 1800s. Contrary to what one sees on websites of other places, the website pictures of Casa Pereyra are exactly what you will find, and better. The only thing missing in these pictures is Paty, the warm, friendly and helpful manager of the place. As requested, we stayed one week in Studio #3, this spacious main floor studio, has a living/bedroom, a shower bathroom and a kitchenette. After finding out that another reservation we had for the remaining two weeks, was not at par to what Casa Pereyra offers, we decided to stay at this quaint hotel. We moved to the two-story Suite #4, with a living/dining room and a full kitchen on the main floor. Upstairs we had a spacious bedroom with a Queen size bed, a shower bathroom and a corner office leading to a lovely balcony, from where the sun and the birds awakens you in the morning. This Suite also has a private outdoor seating area filled with warm sunshine in the morning and restful shade in the afternoon. The apartments (they also have several single hotel rooms) have fully equipped kitchen with all the needed utensils, and if you are missing something, you just need to ask Paty, she will do everything possible to get it for you. The apartments are impeccably clean, thanks to the responsible and friendly Sofia, as well as, Delia and Ruth. The well-cared potted garden, filled with beautiful plants and flowers, has two tables with umbrellas, which are perfect to eat outdoors, read, relax or just great to spend a lazy afternoon. Although located on a main street, Casa Pereyra's description can be summed up in a few words: a sanctuary, an oasis for your eyes, impeccably clean, and most of all, a great place to stay because of its welcoming and warmth staff. There is free WiFi and it works well, but the TV receptions need improvement. We certainly recommend this hotel to anybody who loves to enjoy the real Mexico, where with-in walking distance you find the historical centre, well appointed museums, stores filled with beautiful handcrafts, restaurants, open air folkloric shows and the free band concerts played at the “zocalo”, the main square. Casa Pereyra will be our future destination, when ever we go back to Oaxaca.

After a few hiccups with making the reservation, staying here could not have been more pleasant.

The rooms were clean, neat and tidy while Patricia, who runs the place, was helpful and very accommodating.

I stayed with family but would also recommend it for couples or even a small group of friends.

My daughter and I stayed at Casa Pereyra for 12 nights and only have good things to say. We stayed ini Studio 3 and put in two beds. We had a kitchenette which we really liked having so we could have light snacks. The shower was great, and Sophia kept the room spotless. Patricia, the owner, was very helpful and made sure we new how to get around and what places to see. We will return! The photos are accurate!

We stayed in the lovely #3 studio, that's good for a couple. We came because we looked for some nice place, not a noisy hostel, that has a kitchen to cook all this lovely Oaxacan produce while in town. The shower was finally hot and good (hard to find in this parts of Mexico), and the room was equipped with everything we needed, from wine opener, through cutlery and cookware down to the matches... Wi-Fi, lovely common patio, every day meticulous cleaning (including the dishes!) and not being to far from the Zocalo and other attractions complete the experience.

Staying at Casa Pereya was a delightful experience. We stayed in Studio 3- the best room in the hotel for a month. The space was well organized, well ventilated and very cozy yet spacious. The room was bright as there were skylights as well as a long kitchen window and the double doors that opened wide during the day. When the doors were closed the windows could be shuttered or be left without shutters to allow light in. The room was very modern with a very useable gas stovetop, fridge and pots and pans. Right outside our door was a small patio with a table. We enjoyed sitting there immensely particularly mid-afternoon until the evening. We also had a lovely bird-bath and fountain and the birds came frequently. Casa P gave us a pretty, peaceful environment away from the hustle bustle of Oaxaca and the noisy traffic. While you can still hear the noise of traffic from Crespo and Independencia it is certainly diminished and the pretty environment is so restful. Patricia speaks Spanish and French as well as a little English. Sophia kept our rooms as well as the entire hotel very clean. Excellent location. Great stay!
