“Wouldn't go back”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

I don't think Mexita lives up to it's rating at all. As an Italian living in Oaxaca I had a hankering for a traditional Napoli pizza. Recommended to me as the hot spot for authentic Italian cuisine, I was really disappointed to see that the ingredients that make a good Napoli pizza (tomatoes, mozzarella, olive oil and basil) completely removed and replaced with toppings that bared no resemblance to any Napoli i've eaten before. I didn't bother ordering it and instead shared the mushroom pasta and the mexita pizza. The pasta was packed with flavour, a bit heavy on the cheese and the proscuitto on the pizza was wet and over done with rocket. The house wine was ok and my partners beer was great, however the prices are absolutely ridiculous for what you're getting and i wont be going back!

“not to be missed.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

We asked our Oaxacan friend for her favorite restaurant...and Mexita was the first name she said. While we might generally steer away from Italian food in Mexico (why? we certainly don't only eat American food in America), we read reviews to get some information, and off we went. The food is truly excellent. We ate pasta (house-made, fresh) with calamari and a pizza with boquerones (little fish). Our standard for good food is high as we're from the Bay Area (California) where foodies abound. Both dishes could have come from the best restaurants at home. We love how completely unpretentious the restaurant easy....it could easily be passed over by a tourist looking for a certain something. We say: don't miss this one!

“Artesanal wines, balsamic vinegar, bread and cheeses”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

We enjoyed the owners and the true Naples atmosphere. We had a delightful tasting of homemade ricotta and mozzarella that we were comparing to our time where we used to live in Italy. The fresh made pasta with the different sauces were to die for, after we had eaten some crispy green marinated with again homemade balsamic vinegar and thick green extra virgen olive oil. At the end, we had some "limoncello" that was very syrup like and its taste was divine. Since I make this Italian drink at home, the "Nonno" shared some tip with me of how to improve my recipe. At the end, since we were complementing them so much, the lady chef was brought to our table to be told, how much we had enjoyed our meal.

“One of Best Places I've Stumbled Upon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

My adult daughter and I were in Oaxaca for Spanish lessons for a week, to be joined by my spouse for vacation next week. The restaurant we were aiming for wasn't open; I'd glimpsed this one from the taxi ride going past. It was raining, so we doubled back here. This is a family run buisness, southern Italy transplants. We had visited Oaxaca three years ago and not noticed what seems to be a newish trend of Italian eateries: why, I kept wondering, would we eat Italian in Mexico? So very glad we did. We were greeted by several wait staff and eventually the main chef (owner too?) Enrique De Rosa came out. While we waited for our main dishes we were treated to a taste of the in-house produced mozzarella (the chef gets the milk fresh from a farm outside of Oaxaca!). Our table's pizza and lasagna were both amazing. Attentive staff; not rushed; great food. When my wife joins us next week, after she's had several meals of local cuisine, we'll take her here.

“It's Just Not Vieja Lira, Though Okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

It's a nice restaurant, but service is sketchy and the staff simply does not have it down pat. That's indeed often the case in Oaxaca, but not always. The food is quite good (we had pizzas, calzones, salad and fresh pasta between our group of six), but not exceptional and I'm actually shocked that this restaurant has the reviews and rating I see.. We left and both said "Vieja Lira is better." Vieja Lira has the service that you should demand for prices which are in the upper range, and the fare to match. I don't think I'd return unless with another couple who insisted. And then I would try to disuade them and convince them to go to, you guessed it. But sure, if you live or are staying in that part of town, it's fine and you should be reasonably satisifed.

Buenas tardes,
