My husband and I have just come back from our ten-day long trip in Oaxaca and we are enthusiastic in recommending this place to anyone. Since my husband speaks good spanish, he got to know almost everybody working for this b&b very well, including Lily, Rocio, Nadia, and Fabrina. Every one of them was extremely helpful and they went far beyond our expectation to help us have pleasant experience in Oaxaca. The place was very clean, comfortable, and very well located close both to Zocalo and Santo Domingo. When we told them that we had never had a fruit called guanabana, Nadia and Rocio went to several markets searching for the fruit. Lily spent so much of her time on the phone with travel agencies and restaurants in order to help us and she was so gracious in offering her help. Other members of our tour group stayed at a different b&b called La Casa de los Sabores (just around the corder from Tia Tere) and I know how unpleasant experience they had (small rooms, malfunctioning showers, unfriendly staff, overcharging for everything including international calls, internet usage, and dinners). Therefore we even more appreciate the experience we had with Tia Tere.

Casa Tia Tere was very clean and certainly an acceptable place to stay. The breakfasts were very basic but edible, the rooms were spacious if dark, and the internet access was great. The "gym" was a joke when we were there and the pool was small and not quite full.

THe location was ok -- a bit noisy in the morning and a non-descript area.

We left the hotel early becuase there are much nicer places to stay in Oaxaca for the same price.

That said, Tia Tere is not a bad place to stay, and sheer inertia almost kept us from changing.

Just got back from a 7 day stay in Oaxaca. La Casa de Tia Tere is simple but nice, and very well located. All rooms face and interior courtyard/dining room, and some rooms don't have windows to the outside. We changed to a room that did for ventilation, as there were no fans or air conditioning. The weather was cool enough that this wasn't really an issue, and in fact, too cool to take advantage of the nice swimming pool in back. There is also some workout equipment and free access to two computers and the internet. Breakfast is fruit, yogurt, dry cereal and granola, breads, coffee and juice. Simple and unexciting, but fine for us.
As mentioned elsewhere, the beds are quite firm, but I prefer that, so it wasn't a problem. There are no phones in the rooms and only some have televisions (we did not and were out far too much to have taken advantage). The bathrooms have showers, which are not separate, but one end of the room with a drain and a curtain. In our first room it worked well, but in the second the floor was inadequately canted to allow for good drainage and the entire bathroom floor got soaked every time we showered. We accomodated by using our towels to mop up after we dried off, and the supplied fresh towels everyday. We didn't bother to complain or ask for another room. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful regardless or one's knowledge of Spanish (one of speaks, one didn't). The week were there was during the annual Gualeguetza, so it was considered high season and rates weren't quite as low as shown on this website. All in all a pleasant experience. There are more elegant places, but they cost a lot more!

I just spent one week at Casa de la Tia Tere with my wife in Oaxaca. We both highly recommend Tia Tere as an excellent B&B in a great location. Very spacious rooms with wonderful kingsize bed and good breakfasts. This B&B just opened and everything is new. It even has an on-site internet connection. About 15 minutes walk to the Zocalo and on a quiet street with a great courtyard view. If you can get a room overlooking the outdoor pool.
