This is one of the best museums I have visited, it has a large collection exhibited in period order, and the building itself, the Dominican monastery is spectacular and beautifully preserved. well worth the entrance fee. You can see parts of the Etno-Botanic Gardens from various parts of the building.

this recently renovated museum is filled with interesting exhibits from prehispanic art and artifacts ,colonial period art, daily living to contemporary art
There are written explanations in Spanish and English in each room. The building itself, a monastery next to Santo Domingo church is beautiful and a pleasure to explore and admire the vistas of both Oaxaca and the excellent botanic gardens in back

Beautiful building, but poor displays and the recorded tour is inadequate. all in all, a disappointment.

Tour this museum before you go to Mont Albin or Mitla. An amazing museum. Plan on at least two hours. If you don't read Spanish, probably best to find an tour guide that speaks your language.

This museum, part of the ex-convento of Santo Domingto is another great Mexican museum. Should go early in the am or just after lunch. You need a good 2-3 hours for a minimal visit; 4-5 hours for a thorough visit. There are pre-Columbian artifacts as well as colonial and historical rooms; good way to review Mexican history. The bookstore is large with a good selection of both books and gifts.
