Owner description: The Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca exhibits hundreds of live plant species, all native to Oaxaca. Planting began in 1998 with plants coming from different regions in the state of Oaxaca; such as arid, humid, low tropical and high mountainous temperate zones. The garden represents the broad diversity of geological formations, types of vegetation and climates that characterize Oaxaca.

A 1 hr. English tour would have been plenty, not the 2 hrs. It starts at 11 am - 1 pm and gets way too hot and there is very little shade.
The Spanish tour is 1 hr. and that would have been perfect . It is a beautiful cactus garden.

Wonderful tour and fantastic mix of flowering and native plants in a unique colonial setting. Go! Don't miss the chance to ask questions about indigenous plants. Bring your camera.

The only problem with this gorgeous garden is you can only see it as part of a guided tour, and the schedule of the guided tours may not coincide with when you happen to be there. That's what happened to us--there were no tours when we were there. But we got some gorgeous views (and great photos) by visiting the adjacent Museum of Oaxacan Cultures and looking out the windows.

I took the English-language tour. The garden is a marvel. The guide was knowledgeable, engaging, enthusiastic, informative, and patient with our gigantic group. I have taken the tour several times. My only complaint is that the 2-hour tour, happening mid-day in a garden with very little shade, can be overwhelming for the heat sensitive.

We took the tour in Spanish and the guide was extremely knowledgeable. They also have tours in English, three times a week.
