It all started with an idea. The idea of finding the perfect place that will inspire a sense of serenity, peace, gratitude, hapiness, and above all, that will give a sense of belonging and spirituality. I wanted to be a place, where the sacred and the infinite wonders of nature would combine. After hiking up a mountain in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca for a couple of hours, we finally got to our place sought after: the Monte de Pedimientos (Mount of Requests) where we found an alter rendering tribute to the Virgen de Juquila (Juquila's Virgin). It is said that among the native indigenous people that whatever you request to the Juquila Virgin, reality will be. We gathered an offering of wild flowers and other ornament weed that we could find and picked up nearby the alter. We then held hands and thanked gracefully the four elements and the Juquila Virgin for the present moment. We saw a beautiful scenery where the cloud forming carpet underneath our inmense view below the mountaintop would testify the beginning of our lifes together. That was the perfect moment to get down in one knee and ask her to be by my side for the rest of my life... and with a tear in her eye she said YES!

Thank you Yves and Eric, the Tierraventura team to make this moment possible!

If you are looking for an unforgettable experience in Oaxaca, let these guys take you to breathtaking sceneries and great rides. Enjoy Mexico at its best!

We initially tried to arrange a trip to the Pueblos Mancomunados via the Expediciones Sierra Norte office in Oaxaca. However, no one when we where there, we tried twice, could speak any English and our Spanish didn't stretch that far. Looking for other options we came across Tierraventura Eco tours, although more expensive than we were initially looking for it was great to be taken so good care of. We had a great couple of sunny days up in the thin clear air (3000-3300 m) away from the crowds, on the second day we didn't meet anyone. The view was so good in fact that we could see the snow topped summit of Pico de Orizaba, or Citlaltépetl (5636 m) off in the distance. With an English speaking guide we could take routes that we could not have taken independently, understand the nature around us and the people who inhabit these mountains. All in all we greatly enjoyed our couple of days up in the mountains and it was a good break from visiting the amazing ruins that are strewn throughout the rest of Mexico.

A truly amazing 3 days walking. Would really recommend this. The 3 days encompassed a variety of backdrops from forests and meadows to canyons, with some breath taking views. It was especially enjoyable to try genuine Mexican food in the local restaurants and meet the local guides. Yves and Marie were helpful, funny and considerate and also happy to answer any questions along the way. A great, welcoming starting point for the rest of our trip around Mexico.

We organised a day hike in Los Pueblos Mancomunados with Tierraventura and this was one of the highlights of our trip in Mexico. The scenery was magical, it felt as if we were walking through an enchanted forest straight from the pages of a children's book, and our two guides gave us a wealth of information about the extraordinary plants and told us stories about how the local people used the land and the paths we were walking along. Yves organised the trip and drove us from Oaxaca and back (about 1.5 hours each way). He has a delightful sense of humour as well as an interesting, informed perspective on life in Mexico, as someone who has lived there for 20 years and is passionate about the country and promoting sustainable eco- tourism. Our only regret was that we didn't stay overnight in one of the cabanas - see the 'book more than one day' comment below. Next time, we'll definitely follow David's advice!

We spent 3 days hiking with Yves, Eric and three local guides in the Pueblos Mancomunados in late August. A brilliant introduction to Oaxaca, setting us up for a more relaxed few days in Oaxaca city afterwards. The weather was fine (most of the time!), the views were great, the food was tasty - but what made the trip was the friendliness and super-organisation of Yves, Eric and the guides. Yves in particular was good fun and very knowledgeable about everything Oaxacan, from history and politics to medicinal plants. Eric was incredibly enthusiastic and has a real talent for translating and building a genuine rapport between the guides and travellers. All in all, definitely worth the money. My only tip would be to spend at least one night in the mountains - the Pueblos' cabanas with wood fires in every room make for a great atmosphere.
