“Go for the Friday Market.”

The park is a large space, good for a stroll or sit and watch the world go by but it's a special treat on Fridays for it's fabulous market. Have lunch at one of a number of market stalls, buy produce, cheese, unusual homemade items like the tomato & chile jam I bought. Also clothing, hardware, household items, baked goods...you name it. Crowded, of course, but a happy pleasant crowd. I recommend it highly.

You could sit and relax while getting a delicious torta from Las Hormigas.
Friendly people and there are many restaurants around.

So different from the zocalo. Here everyone seems happy doing activities like skating, riding a bike, or enjoying a picnic with their families. Can easily spend hours here reading a book or enjoying the scarce sunshine. I was told by the guide on the bus that this park used to be the city zoo and the lion statues were where the gate entrances were

On Friday there is a market to have breakfast or lunch.. Beautiful huge trees are in the park. The park is about a block in Area. Sometimes there is a book fair in the park. Along the north side of the park is a church to visit.

Because Parque Juárez (known locally as “El Llano”) is directly across Calle Pino Suarez from my hostel (Don Nino), I wound up spending a fair amount of time there during my two week stay in Oaxaca. I was there at times from early morning to late in the evening, and I always felt safe. It seemed there was always activity in the park: single people and families, humans walking dogs, young people on skateboards, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, lovers embracing on benches, kids bouncing on an inflated Sponge Bob contraption, vendors selling ice cream, ices, tacos, coffee, and cooked bananas, old folks in wheelcairs, babies in strollers, students going to and from school, church bells in the distance, wires connecting ears to electronic devices, a class of black T-shirted teens practicing flying power kicks…
