We were with three families and planned a special dinner on the rooftop of Casa Crespo. The view of Santo Domingo cathedral in the pink sky was fabulous. Appetizers, including hot stone soup, and herbs wrapped over cheese were impressive. Service was good and it was a magical eveing for all, incuding our four teenagers!

From the reviews it seems that people have differing experiences here, but we had a great evening and most of the food was excellent. Mole rojo was great, and particularly fun was the soup cooked at the table with hot stones. Wine by the glass was not so great. Service was fine. Best part may have been the view - of the 4 rooftop restaurants we experienced, Crespo has the best view and setting.

We ordered the 7 course menu and it's worth trying. We did ask the waiter if it's enough for two and he suggested it's only for one person. So we ordered another entrée which in hindsight it's way too much food. But set aside the ill advice, the food we ordered is of good quality. The 7 course menu allows one to try variety of mole and the meat was tender. The tobala mescal sold under the Crespo brand was excellent, we ended up buying 2 bottles to bring home next day. The chocolate ice-cream dessert they had was incredible as they added corn chips in it. We've never had ice-cream done this way, and we had to go back just for it another night but they ran out of it unfortunately. We understood other reviewers' comments on their service as we were also approached by our waiter to leave him a tip (when the tips was already included in the bill). We hope the tips do get fairly distributed to the workers, otherwise it would not have caused these behaviors.
Overall, we gave it a 4 rating because of the food, topped by the Guelaguetza weekend evening parade which we had a magical night dining while looking out the Santa Dom. church and the parade. In terms of service, they met our expectation the 1st night, and they made us wait for a long time before informing us the dessert ran out the 2nd night. But we held no grudges, as indeed they were very busy that evening.

Actually food was not bad, but service!!! First they brought wring item, and pretented that that is what we ordered. Not good.. Second, when the bill came, " propina" was included, but when we kind of asked , so the tips are included, the server lied saying, oh no, no tips are included! We asked again , " are you sure?", so then he realized we cought him, he went to the kitchen, and came back saying, its a service charge...btw, it was %15, which would be totally fine with me in a different situation. We left..God bless their hearts! Just avoid , so many other great places to give business to!

My husband and I ate here twice during our Oaxaca trip, and both times it was very good. My husband got the excellent posole both times we came. I got a rare type of mole the first time. The flavor was excellent, though the texture was a bit gritty and the meat was mostly bone. The second time I got the amarillo mole, which was great, with perfectly cooked pork. For desert the first time, we got the chocolate ice cream, which was delicately flavored and tasty. The second time, I got the funny sounding bu-pu, which I thought was delicious. The chocolate cake that my husband got wasn't that good. The atmosphere was great, with the rooftop view of Santo Domingo by moonlight giving a nice top off to the romantic feeling.
