A nice quiet hotel that is set away from the center of the city. The place is clean and well-run. We traveled the last days of Semana Santa on a Sun, Mon, and Tues. The hotel had virtually no other guests (maybe due to the political instability of the year past)Positives: the place is in a quiet neighborhood that has nice cobble stone streets and colonial charm of its own. The owners are nice and helpful. It is a short 5 minute walk to the bus station. Negatives: a long-ten minute walk to the zocolo. the rooms are not spacious.

This is an OK hotel, but you can definitely get more for your money elsewhere. The view from the breakfast terrace area is great, and there's a nice leafy internal courtyard, but the staff were not very helpful - our room was on the ground floor just off the main reception area and was rather noisy, with no windows, so we asked if they had somewhere quieter, ideally on the first or second floor, and were told they were completely full (which patently wasn't true). Breakfast was not included in the price (or rather the fruit salad and the jam was, but not the toast and coffee, or something equally odd). The rooms have TV, safe, telephone etc but I'd rather stay somewhere with fewer facilities and more character. Not really worth the money.

This hotel is nestled on a corner in a neighborhood complete with roosters to wake you up in the morning. The owners are very helpful and arranged a private tour of the surrounding town one day, and were able to get us galaguetza tickets for us before we arrived. The hotel is charming with plants all over and the terrace is lovely. Cash is expected at the time of check out, which was a bit of a surprise, but overall a good experience. If you plan on sightseeing around the zocalo for meals and shopping, I would recommend staying a bit closer, but if that's not your main objective, it is fine. A cab ride from the hotel to downtown was 30 pesos usually, which could add up if you go back and forth more than once a day. The taco shop down the street has great al pastor tacos, fyi. open late too!

We spent 10 nights at the Cazomalli in January 2005, and were very pleased. We found it to be quiet, clean, with responsive service. The rooftop patio was a special hit, as we were looking for a quiet vacation and wanted a place to read in the afternoon. You do need to walk a bit, but that was part of our plans.

Stayed at Cazomalli for one night in January 2004. What a let down! The room was small, dark and dreary. It opened onto the courtyard where the crying babies were being cajoled to not cry. The bath room was spartan- one had to stand in the shower to open the door. The cleaning tools never left the hallway. It is a fairly long walk to the zocalo from this residential neighborhood where there are very few services. This hotel is definitely overpriced. Oaxaca hotels tend to be high priced, but you can find good ones if you look. I would not recommend Cazomalli on any basis.

A small, family operated hotel of 15 rooms on 3 levels. Marina and Francisco Perez have been the proprietors for since 1996. All of the staff have a very friendly, helpful attitude. Marina speaks some English. Francisco's positive attitude is inspiring. Very clean and well maintained. Water is hot only in the morning, not all day as advertised. For a nominal charge you can have breakfast, served by Marina or one of the staff, on the roof terrace after 8am. In a residential area with cobbled streets. No traffic noise. Central courtyard style can readily transmit interior sounds but generally quiet. If you are a light sleeper you may be awakened by barking neighborhood dogs. 10 min. walk to ATM, Llanno park. 20 min. walk to Sto. Domingo Church. Nearest restaurant (closed Tuesday) is 5 min walk.
2 small gorcery stores are steps away. Cash payment was preferred after first night's credit card deposit.

The hotel is lovely. It's got an inside patio with loads of plant pots and you can have a cup of coffee in there.
I think it was recently refurbished. All the furniture in our room was new.
The family that run the hotel are extremelly friendly and nice. Excellent service, super clean.
It is a bit noisy early in the morning.
It's really good value for money!
