“Great place to meet fellow travelers!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

This hostel has really great areas for gathering on the first floor and the roof. As a result, I met some wonderful travelers who turned into wonderful friends. We continued to meet up throughout our travels through Mexico.

Added bonuses: The awards don't lie. This place is clean! And the free breakfast comes with eggs cooked to order.

The hostel is very well located, close to everything and easy to find. The facilities are great and the people working there too. However, it is really noisy, they do sell beer at the hostel, and it brings up some weird behaviour!! on two of the three nights we spent there, we haven't been able to sleep correctly, or at least, not before 4 am...
I guess it depends on how you want to enjoy your hollidays, but as for us, we missed the "Shuuuuut policy after 10 pm"

I spent a week here and loved it. One of the nicest hostels I've stayed in. It's clean and nicely decorated, the guys at the desk are helpful and friendly, and the ladies who make your breakfast and clean are sweet and hard working. They also have 2 computers you can use for free, and free movies. They're great at giving you help in finding places and suggestions on things to see and do. I'm 62 and never felt out of place by the younger crowd. There were fun parties held every evening on the roof top over looking the city, and everyone seemed to have a great time. My room was quiet and my bed excellent. The showers have hot water from 8-10 and and 8-10 pm. I was able to walk around the entire city from this convenient location. There is a wonderful mercado just one block up the hill that has the BEST food. I highly recommend the chicken mole tamales wrapped in banana leaves! There is a good vibe here. The next time I return to Oaxaca I'll stay here for sure.

Room Tip: I stayed in a 3-bed room for women, and because it was the slow season, I had the room all to myself...

We stayed as a couple in a shared room as there was no private ones available when we arrived. Nice roof terrace, nice views, helpful staff, good kitchen.

Great value private rooms are comfortable and clean, although quite small.
I read the prior review about bed bugs in room 2 - this was our room and there was no evidence of bed bugs. Also, there is a sign saying that you cannot use your own linen, obviously management have reacted to e reports and fixed the problems.
Breakfast is great - eggs cooked to order are a bonus in a hostel.
The hostel is very well located, a decent walk from e bus station but not too far from the town centro.
The only annoying part was that we checked out and came back in the afternoon for a shower (the manager said we could without charge) but when we came back there was a differ manager on duty who charged us, as well as a charge for towels which worked out to be a bit pricey.
Overall, a good stay and great value for money.

The hostel is located between the 1st class bus station and the main square (Zocalo). I stayed in a 4-bed dorm - the mattresses were comfy and the place is VERY clean. There is hot water from 8 to 10 (am&pm) but you can ask them to turn it on whenever you need it. Wifi is available with a good connection too. The rooftop terrace is a great addition - too bad it closes at 11pm, forcing people either to go out or to hang out in the kitchen area... which in turn makes the dorm rooms on the ground floor very noisy.

The staff was apathetic at best and not really helpful. There was only one guy who was friendly and talkative, which is a shame.
