The textile museum continues to feature excellent examples of the finest antique and vintage textiles of the region. This time there were full traditional costumes including antique jewelry. Detailed explanations enhance the displays. The gift shop continues to be an excellent spot for quality textiles at fair prices, gifts for children and interesting books on related topics. If you are in Oaxaca for the first time or a repeat visit, the Museo Textil de Oaxaca should be on you must visit list. If you are traveling with young children don't miss the antique carousel in the adjoining gated park.

If you want to learn a little about the various ethnic groups and their traditional costumes this is the place to go. Entrance is free and one hour is probably more than enough for a good visit.

This two story exhibit space is very pleasant (and great bathrooms) and while there are only a few exhibits what we saw were very colorful and interesting. Several native costumes with typical woven clothing, presented in an interesting way. Just beyond the museum itself was also another exhibit in an adjoining building honoring the fifth anniversary of the museum in a gallery setting.

What a gorgeous adaptive reuse of space to create a gift to the people of Oaxaca and their visitors. The museum illustrates the history and culture of the people through their clothing and other textiles. Eric, the education director, works with the curator to develop information and programs that illuminate the experience of visiting. Ask in advance for a tour! He is a remarkable resource. Wonderful gift shop and excellent restaurant in the Foundation building next door. Don't miss it.

This museo was recommended by my Spanish teacher. It is a small museum but features local artisans. Take the time to watch the videos as they are very informative and look at the work that is done instead of quickly going through as many of do in a museum. I especially enjoyed the area that featured the children from Oaxaca and the surrounding villages. These children learn their craft from family as it is learned from parents, grandparents. You can also buy crafts in the gift shop which helps to support these artists.
