We really enjoyed our stay in this clean, friendly hotel. The rooms were spotless, the garden and breakfast areas beautiful, nights quiet and restful. Overall a very refreshing stay. Staff was very helpful, gave us useful directions and recommendations. At $600 pesos for a double, we couldn't have asked for more.

My 19 yr old daughter and I took a 10 d trip to Oaxaca in mid- December. We stayed at Las Golondrinas, which was nice but not fancy, was in a great location and was economical. We had a great time taking day trips to the nearby sights/ruins and enjoying the vibe in Oaxaca city. 2 highlights: taking a day cooking class at Alma de mi Tierra, including a trip to the market to gather and learn about ingredients, and going into the Pueblos Mancomunados on an overnight hike with Tierraventura.

I loved the location as it was far enough from the noise and crowds, but close enough to walk everywhere. The rooms were very clean and the cleaning service did an excellent job. We felt very safe and was surprised at the size of our room. I think I read somewhere that the rooms are on the small side, but from seeing other rooms while they were cleaning and ours, they were not!

The gardens were nice and inviting. We had breakfast once only, but it was very good, except if you're in a hurry, might not be the best choice. They sell calling cards at the reception desk and have a private phone booth to make calls.

We saw people from all over the world here. It felt very alive and fun. Although we were near the main entrance, the door really didn't bother us, perhaps too tired to be bothered (??) =) They do lock the door after a certain time, so you must press the doorbell to get in. Was a little weird the first time, but we quickly got used to it.

Will stay here again when I return to Oaxaca and highly recommend to budget travelers who don't mind not too soft beds;-)

PS: Internet is only $5 pesos for every 30 min.

This hotel is a great value. It's in a beautiful colonial complex with three flower-filled patios. Good breakfasts are served in one of these little paradises. Everything is very well maintained and spotlessly clean.

We were just in Oaxaca in the beginning of the month. Stayed at Golondrinas 4 nights in one quiet nice little room, great beds, good mattresses. Plenty of pressure and hot water, quiet, and the gardens, virtually all in pots are impressive. The morning host at breakfast I'm guessing is the owner and shows a real interest in all his breakfast guests.
We went away for a couple nights to the mountains and returned to a different room for one night before leaving. Also quiet with a good bed. Very clean. We will always look to stay at Las Golondrinas when we go to Oaxaca. We stayed ten years ago and it seemed just as good now.
If only Mexican hotels would have a big central bottle of purified water to refill small bottles with. In Ecuador and Costa Rica the hotels do this and it saves on a lot of plastic bottles, but Mexico isn't there yet. And one can't help but want to help reduce our plastic footprint when drinking all purified water!
