Absolutely worth going to, and cheap. Mostly pre-Columbian artefacts. (Why do they insist on 50 characters????)

If you have the time, visit this museum. There are pieces from many different Mexican cultures. However, if you must choose one, skip it and go to museo de las culturas next to Santo Domingo

Although Rufino Tamayo is a very well-known Mexican artist, you will not find any of his work here. This is his private collection of Pre-Hispanic Art which he donated to the city of Oaxaca. Nevertheless, it is well worth the visit as you will find beautifully preserved works of art.

We really liked this museum. Amazing collection - how did he get his hands on all of this?! - that is rightly shared with the public. Would have appreciated more and better information in a more easily accessed format - on the walls, for example. Definitely worth a visit.

I love the story behind the collection: Rufino Tamayo, the famous 20th century artist from Oaxaca wanted to keep these pieces, these parts or his heritage, out of the hands of the wrong people, so he collected the, himself amassing an amazing collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts from the area. Beautifully displayed and curated in both Spanish and English. A lovely visit right in the heart of the city.
